  • Car Air Conditoning R12 replacement that works!
    If you have an R12 system Envirosafe is an excellent way to keep from having to move to R134 and a messy cleanout and conversion to PAG oil from mineral oil.

    Ive used their Envirosafe ES12a "industrial" product for 15 years.
    Pull a hard vacuum.
    GREAT STUFF 👍👍
    Much colder than 134 and 12.
    BTW,
    its NOT 134, it is propane and isobutane blend.
    Nobody wants to know that, do they? LOL

      I don't understand why they say not to pull vacuum. That's insane to leave moisture in the system.

  • @nvboatguy

    We always pull it down where it will put out 40°, using the little round gauge. When it all sealed up, enough Freon, and large enough condenser to handle the R134, you’re golden….

    This is a great walk through! Thank you for taking care of the leaks and conversion the right way. These refrigerants are no joke.

    I have used envirosafe in the past and it works quite well. It has to be installed exactly how the manufacturer says, otherwise it separates into the components and won't cool. I had that problem and I had to vent the system, pump it down, then recharge it.

    Nylog blue on the flare fittings is good insurance against leaks. Also used on threaded fittings as well. I did a bunch of 134a conversions back when they were a new thing and back then it was hit or miss if it was going to kill the compressor. There were allot of tricks go get cars to cool better etc. Like using different orifice tubes in GM modifying expansion valves in others.

      Ha-Ha!!! I was talking to a friend the other day about how it's getting harder and harder to get out of my Miata these days. Thanks for the video, I was watching because I'm down to my last can of R12, and my Miata needs to be topped off.

      Nice! We haven't really ventured off the beaten path here with the 134 Industrial. The only potential down side I see about the R417c is that it only comes in the 5 gallon tanks. I like the Envirosafe because it is available in smaller sizes.

    I converted to R134a a few years back on my '76 Coupe DeVille and it's never been right ever since. were I to go this route how should I proceed? evacuate the system and try again after making sure it holds vacuum? what about the old oil - how does one go about purging that? I added about 8 ounces of refrigerant oil back when I did the conversion..

    Loved the details contained in offhand comments, thank you. Can you explain how to know if you have enough (or too much) oil in the system? I am about to replace the dryer on an 86 RX-7 and fill with Envirosafe. Also, can makeup oil be poured directly into the dryer? Thanks

  • @tedstriker754

    There's not going to be a replacement evap core anywhere. That hang down system is so similar to Vintage Aire or Old Air systems, i'd rip it out and go with an all new system.

  • @MatthewG_208
    @MatthewG_208 10 месяцев назад +2

    Did you guys have it do anything to convert the system to r134 before charging it, Thanks in advance

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  10 месяцев назад

      Nope. The industrial 134 is compatible with R12 systems. I would evacuate the R12 and replace it with this though.

      @@AutoRestoMod Here in the US, under Federal law, it's illegal to directly replace R12 with this stuff since it's flammable. It's not illegal under Federal law if you convert the system to R134a first, but it's illegal under some state laws.

    You should of done a nitrogen pressure test first to check for leaks

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  10 месяцев назад +1

      Oh for sure. We could not find nitrogen in our area for less than $300 for a 40lb charge. We gambled and lost.

      If not Nitrogen compressed air can work in a pinch. Plain air is 78% Nitrogen

    • @hotrodray6802

      @@jeffdriver3000
      Yes your going to vacuum it anyway.

    • @averyalexander2303
      @averyalexander2303 2 месяца назад +1

      @@jeffdriver3000 Don't do that, the oil and receiver/accumulator dryer will absorb the moisture. Mineral oil will eventually release absorbed moisture after being under a deep vacuum for hours, but the dryer won't and PAG/ester oils won't release moisture under vacuum.
      If you don't have dry nitrogen, a better idea is to pressure test with refrigerant after you vacuum the system. It takes hardly any refrigerant to fill it to perhaps 50 PSI of vapor and then you can leave it for however you want and see if it drops. Keep in mind that the oil will absorb some of the refrigerant, so when using that method, its not uncommon to have to refill to your test pressure several times before the pressure stabilizes, but after that, the pressure should hold steady.
