I take my 4 year old male working cocker for a 6-8 kilometre walk every morning, another 3-4 kilometres in the evening. That’s what I walk, he does over double with his nose to the ground or chasing rabbits etc. He always knows where I am even if I don’t know where he is. They’re not bred to run alongside a bike, they like to roam, do his own thing.

Walking Rosemary every night plus 30 minutes of fetch has really helped with her energy levels.

I was surprised that this video only recommends a 30m walk (in addition to other play time of course) and wondered if this applies to working cocker spaniels too, as opposed to the show version of the breed? I've never had a dog but working cocker spaniels are my favourite breed and want to know if they would suit my lifestyle :)

I adopted a puppy cocker spaniel and she has yet to sit still. No matter how much we run he she hasn’t calmed down. We can’t even hold her

Are they ok with cats? We have one really relaxed rescue cat and have no plans for children -ugh keep them lol.

I recently adopted a 2 year old working cocker. I am wondering if it’s possible to over-exercise him. He’s in great shape and has a minimum of 2 1 hour walks each day. On the weekend we go on much longer hikes, up to 15 km for me so he must do a lot more. I want to bring him mountain biking when the weather improves, would 30 km be excessive? Or 40 even?

That’s completely needless and cruel to expect a dog to run alongside a bike for that distance

@@upthereds4939 it's a working cocker. They're built to be high energy.

      @@elliebee43 I know . I own one . Would I expect my cocker to run 40 kilometres ? That’s just senseless.

@@upthereds4939I totally agree with you. 40km would burn their pawpads off.
