Listened to this song hundreds of times, and every time he gets to the "For I live inside you forever..." part I always get chills. So powerful and amazing, I love it!
The story of Jekyll and Hyde is one of my favorite pieces of literature. It works as a mystery, tragedy, a Christian allegory, and as a science fiction story. It takes an interesting stand by saying we are born neither pure good or pure evil, but that we become who we are based on the side we most indulge in the most and that evil can only flourish if we allow it to, until it ultimately consumes us and leads to our downfall.
not really science fiction personality disorders are a real thing and people actually suffer from this type of stuff all the time (obviously not to this extent but still) skitzofrinics have to deal with the voices seemingly not letting them go and making them feel as though even if they die the voices or personality’s will still be there forever but yeah i get what you mean lol sorry i kinda went on a rant
I'm of the mindset that there is more to us than the duality of good vs. evil, in that, we need both in our lives. I don't believe in a self-righteous, all-good person. I don't believe that's healthy, in the same way that being all-evil isn't healthy.
I have Multiple Personality Disorder and knew of Jekyll and Hyde, but was not aware there was a musical adaptation. Heard this song and it just spoke to the relationship between one of my personalities and I. On a personal level, it to me is a story of what I don’t want to happen to me, which can at times be a struggle. I very much enjoy both the book and now the musical. And I think it’s a great story, as well as (but not exclusively) a great way to help people better understand many mental disorders and the crushing blow it deals to your willpower, mental-state, and wellbeing.
Just a reminder to those saying "But he was singing two parts at the same time!" This is from the concept CD of J&H. In the original staging of the confrontation, Jekyll was singing this when an image of Hyde appeared in the mirror above him. The Hyde part was pre-recorded allowing them to sing over each other and increase the tension. At the end of the scene Jekyll threw something at the mirror shattering it into pieces, each with Hyde's face still on them.
@@LivinLuxuriously I never said Warlow played it on stage. I literally said this is from the concept CD. All of the things I said about the original staging utilizing a recorded track are true.
@@Bjaardker I literally replied immediately after with a “my bad, I was meaning to send this to another commenter in your defense” - did u not see that??
I bet you that Anthony Warlow could have sang both parts in 1 recording but I guess they decided to record it separately because its so much more difficult to change your voice so drastically in a short amount of time.
@@mogvgb Me too! His voice has aged, but still bloody fantastic. Such a great sound. I think with this too, it overlaps in places, so use of recording is just a necessary evil.
Reasons imo this is the best performance of the song: 1.actual acting instead of a guy talking way too fast to show emotional struggle Thats all im gonna need
JekkieBrony It just wasn't Hasselhoff's performance that was like that; most I've seen on RUclips are very similar. None have held the same emotion conveyed in Warlow's performance. I have to be honest though, in my opinion Hasselhoff would've done great had it been a play instead of a musical. Maybe you could replace the songs with monologues?
+TheDataBox i agree, admittedly the cast choice wasnt the best, but his performance was good and his acting didnt really take me out of the experience, but at the same time their were some parts where it did. (most noteably the first time jekyll became hyde) but overall he did a good job

MikeGamerzCentral Hasselhofs performance was made differently, as it was live on stage, this was filmed in a recording studio. You can tell as occasionally the two characters sing over each other, especially nearer the end
It's official. This is the best version. Not only is Jeykll amazing, this is also my favorite Hyde. That laugh, and the way he just SPITS "I'll see you there, Jeykll!" Simply epic.
There are no words to describe the magnificence of this performance. I just listened to it for the tenth time in a row and I still have to go back for more. Too bad it's just a recording, I would've loved to see this guy do a live performance.
+Ty Stratton-Quirk My words exactly. I stumbled across this jaw-dropping recording and did a quick Google search to track it down to a live performance but found none. I'd give anything to see it as a live performance! You?
hes definitely singing this better then many others, but for some really obvious reason: in this video hes obviously recording jekyll and hyde in two trials and sync them instead of acting the two at the same time as in the stage.
I like the lyrics at the beginning of this version SO much better than the "Lost in the Darkness" reprise. I mean yeah, I get that Jekyll was trying to cure his father in the first place, and the reprise was kind of getting back to that root, BUT now that Hyde has committed such horrible atrocities, it makes MUCH more sense that Jekyll would be saying this. He's in big trouble at this point, and Hyde is not letting him go.
jekyll has so much emotion in his voice it makes me melt!! i love its much, definitely the best version. i like Hyde's little chuckle when he says "your soul"
I know Warlow never played Jekyll and Hyde but this is so well done! He by far does this song the best! How he differentiates the two characters is so good! 😍😍😍
@@TheNoobtuberr I just saw it last night!!! Is Hyde is not *quite* as good as the studio version, close though.... HIs Jekyll was like a time machine though, his voice was incredible and he made it all look effortless.
I saw another video where the actor/singer became weak and whimpering every time he was Jekyll. I like this version because Jekyll isn't a mousie, even though he's tormented and tired out from battling his other side; he is determined to be free and holds his ground. You can hear it in the way Anthony sings his part, and I love that. Of course, I can't discredit how Anthony skillfully warps his voice into the raspy Hyde's without ruining his vocal chords. Serious talent and hard work.
In the high school version I saw, both parts were sung by the same person at once, he would change voice and manner when switiching between Jekyll and Hyde. It was truly amazing. The whole show won a good amount of awards.
It's amazing how "Confrontation" is my favourite song in this musical, as is the song that shares the same name in Les Miserables. The same fight between good and evil, the light song and the dark roar, a song that carries the power of fighting. Such perfect parallels.
I had the privilege to watch Mr. Warlow reprise the role or Phantom in Australia in the summer of 2008. Ive always loved his voice. The control, the power, and the passion he could infuse into a song were absolutely stunning. However, to watch he act was another level of heaven I had not anticipated. He brought a character on stage to life and gave him emotional ranges that was not written in the lyrics. I will have to plan another Australia trip around Mr. Warlows schedule.
So many reasons to love this. I haven't been so moved by a musical piece since the Final Scene of Phantom of the Opera, and I have Anthony Warlow to thank for that. Brava, brava, bravissima!
My husband and I saw this pre-Broadway version in 1996. This version is my favorite Broadway show EVER, because of the way this scene was staged with just Hyde's face on a large video screen above Jekyll on the stage and all the pyrotechnics. We walked out of the performance and I bought the CD before leaving the theater. I was so excited when the post-Broadway tour came to our city only to be disappointed because a lot of the songs had been changed and the Confrontation didn't have the same impact as the pre-Broadway show. 🙁
God damn it, do I wish I could sing this! I don't like the girl roles in this musical, and this song is my absolute favorite! It's everything I like in a good old tension filled emotional song. It's all anger and angst directed at yourself but for a damn good reason! Uh, it's just too good!

I saw Bob Cuccioli years ago in Houston during previews before it went to Broadway. He was great. But this entire album will always be the definitive version of Jekyll & Hyde in my opinion. Two tracks or not, the fact that is the same person singing both of those parts is remarkable.

I know! It is so wonderfull! When he sings it you feel the fear in it !
I love when Jekyll starts to sing-
" All that you are is a face in the mirror.... "
How do I get so much gender envy from both Jekyll and Hyde!??!?! I'm a mezzo soprano and I've been working so hard on expanding my lower range just for this song 😝😝
I really love the contrasts in his voices! Fantastic singing :)
When I get excited, I cry. Let's just saying there are tears streaming down my face.
Breathtaking...
omg, this song gives me goosebumps sooo badly!! i cannot believe that this is the same guy that does both the parts!!! to think no one will direct it to put it on in London because they think no one will watch it and it will be a waste..
silly people
Jekyll and Hyde FTW
wow as long as i've been listening to J&H I had never heard the beginning of this confrontation

As soon as his face popped up I couldn't help but burst out laughing because the facial expression is perfect meme material.
Also i love how the pictures go well with who is singing! very nicely made!
suffering of humor disorder since i was 21 yo this song brings me sadness and rage.
First time checking this out, amazing voice!
