    I only recently stumbled upon this channel and I would like to thank you for the amazing information. Do not worry about your English, everything is clear and understandable!
    I currently have a setup with a Xone:92 and 2 XDJ-1000 Mk-2's and I am looking for an effects unit that works well with this while playing mostly techno. Do you think the Mastersounds FX is a good option or should I go for guitar pedals or perhaps an RMX instead? I tried the RMX-500 but for some reason I cannot get it to work properly.

    • @DJSTUFF
      @DJSTUFF  5 лет назад +2

      A very big thanks for your feedback ! :-)
      So, RMX-500/1000 will not work properly at 100% because you haven’t any dry/wet pot nowhere on it, everything goes into it, it was made for DJM and voila... :-/
      But, you can use an EFX-500/1000, dry/wet on it, as well the Mastersounds FX ( you heard in the video what you will have ) because all the unit is wet so no problem ( you have to make the same diagram to plug it as my video said ), and of course pedal fx ( stereo ones and ones with dry/wet pots of course ).

    @TheDJStuff - can you take a picture of your MP2015 wiring? I'm still a little confused by the diagram. It looks to me like it requires two sets of splitters? Splitter 1: Insert TRS Stereo-> S / R; and Splitter 2: Y-cable to split Aux Sends. But if this is the case, don't two of the splitter cables need female-to-female connectors to plug into each other? I'm confused about this. Of note I have a PX5, and wired it up like the Radius, with the Filter on the Insert via stereo TRS cables. I am curious about doing what you've done though.. as it would give me control over the efx Return volume.

    Thank you for this tutorial! It helped me a lot with the decision to buy Mastersound FX unit. I have one question: I have an Ecler Nuo 2.0 with send/return I/O similar (at least apparently) to the Vestax mixer. So I guess I should use the same complex configuration. However, I also connected it differently, by simply plugging the INSERT I/O in the FX unit with send/return I/O in the mixer using two split cables (stereo jack -> RCA left/right). It works and sound is fine, but I wonder if I am missing something avoiding the more complex configuration used in the tutorial. What am I loosing by avoiding the connection with the RETURN in the FX unit?
    Anyhow, I am very happy with my purchase and I love the sound and the control features of the FX unit... which I definitely recommend so far

      v2 of the mixer works differently. thats why it works the way you have it.
      The 2nd Generation MasterSounds FX Unit keeps the original and muchloved feature set with it’s fantastic user experience and adds our
      AUTO BPM feature on FX 8, plus the ability to use FX with DJ mixers
      that have a send and return system. If nothing is plugged into the
      AUX RETURN sockets on the rear of FX, then the PARAMETER control also
      adjusts the level of FX added to the mix, meaning the effects and
      filter can be used with mixers that don’t have an AUX send control
      (with the addition of 2 x TRS splitter leads, sold separately

  • @djgorey
    @djgorey 4 года назад +1

    Thanks for a really great review and really helpful diagrams. I'm still confused by the signal routing though! I'm looking to pair this with a Formula Sound FF4.2 and that has a proper insert section so I'm guessing I use the insert send/return to the "insert" sockets on the FX and then send Aux 1 to the "Aux Return" sockets on the FX? With these connections, I don't have to use a channel for the FX return (like on the Xone 92). Have I got this right?

    • @djgorey
      @djgorey 4 года назад

      Not confused any more! The LPF/HPF filter works over the mix so the send from the insert sockets sends the whole mix to allow you to apply the filter and distortion to the mix.. The 8 different FX work on whatever channel you want to send via your Aux so that goes via your Aux send from your mixer to to the aux return on the unit (why they called it that, I don't know!). Those two inputs are summed up inside the unit and sent back to the mixer via the insert return to go into the master mix signal path. That's a crazy way to do it when you can just let it have a send and return, but still a cool piece of kit.

    • @DJSTUFF
      @DJSTUFF  4 года назад +1

      Yup, on this unit AUX is just send ( and then goes to INSERT ). INSERT is a send return.
      But in your case you should take the 2 AUX on your mixer instead of AUX + INSERT.
      With the solution, you can choose the channel for your filter AND the channel for a FX.
      Because you have a level for send, but not for return, so return always on, so the insert part of the FX always return, so when you engage a aux part, it will always return. :-)

      @@espresso1967 Nice! That's my next mixer... only issue I had with that FX and my 23 is that I personhood get FX on the right side... I swapped cables too and same issue.... Ryan and crew are awesome, they tested FX unit and it's fine... I think something just up with my 23....

    I don't understand how the filter section (which needs to run as an insert) works with mixers that do not have a master insert. I'd have thought that if you used a filter with a normal send/return loop, you'd hear the dry signal and the filtered signal together (like you do with a delay or reverb). But you're getting just the filtered signal on a mixer without a master insert. Could you explain how this works?

    • @DJSTUFF
      @DJSTUFF  5 лет назад +2

      In this unit the rooting signal is like that :
      - insert in > filter > insert out
      - aux in > FXs > insert out
      And all the FXs are wet, no dry/wet pots, always wet, so the can be applyed on any music with great result.
      But this system, to work well, needs two send or two aux output, one to go to the insert, the other to go to the aux part.
      It’s for that reason I explained how did I manage my Rane MP-2014 to have two separete sends to work like that.
      Mastersounds have in their mixers only a loop and send-aux/return, and made this unit working with that, but I prefer tell that the best experience will be with two send/return because with just a loop master + aux/send you can’t apply a filter on only one channel, all channels go to filter in this case.
      With two send/aux you can choose whitch channel goes to filter or to FXs.

      But how do you use the filter with just a send/return? I watched the MasterSounds FX demo with the Xone 92 (which does not have a master insert) and whenever they use the filter, they turn the channel level to zero so you don't hear the original signal in the mix. I don't see you doing that in this video. Yet when you demonstrate the filters, you hear just the filtered sound without the original signal. And when you use the effects, you hear the original signal plus the effects. How do you do that with a mixer like the MP2014 which only has a send/return and no master insert?

    • @DJSTUFF
      @DJSTUFF  5 лет назад

      Because I split my only one send/return to two send/return so I can do the same, just a Y cable.
      I explain that in the video, I showed my split cables plan.
      And keep in mind that the Mastersounds FX effects are just wet so you don’t have the bad thing original track + filtered track + effects + phasing.

    • @pablodados
      @pablodados 5 лет назад

      Hmm... I still don't get it. I understand that you split your send/return into two, but that still only gives you two send/returns (and no inserts) like the Xone 92. A send/return has two separate audio signals: the original signal which is sent to the effect, and the returned signal which comes back from the effect. This is true even if the returned signal is fully wet. In the Xone 92 demo, they turn the channel level down and set the fx send to pre-fader so that you only hear the filtered audio and not the original track. You don't do that in your demo and somehow still only get the returned signal. But I've taken up enough of your time. I will check out the MP2014 manual for more info. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

      There is two ways to understand this.
      First, in my video, I told that we listen a little bit of some fx, like delay, so you have the filter and little delay on the back. But, in one of the reverb fx, there is a good trick, you can have only the filter when the reverb pots are at zero. So you have only the filter.
      Second, to not have this « problem » ( it’s not a problem, just a wish ), I made myself a passive volume between my MP-2014 and the Mastersounds FX, to simulate a send ( like a Xone for exemple ), so I have the same behavior that the Mastersounds mixers or Xone one.
      Passive volume just for the AUX, so just for the FX part, not the filter.

    Hi Guys,
    I recently bought the Condesa EQ/ISO (with fx sends/returns) and I also have this MS FX unit. Which cables would I need?
    Greatly appreciate all the knowledge in this channel.

      Like I said in the video, they told me that there is no BPM counter but when you are at 120BPM for exemple, you have your delay at 1 beat, you move your pitch to 124BPM, the delay is broken few seconds and keep the 124BPM after : there is still no BPM counter ? 🤔

      TheDJSTUFF thank you for your reply! The PX5 has an insert and a send/return. Isn’t the connection not the same as on the 96 then?

    • @DJSTUFF
      @DJSTUFF  5 лет назад +1

      Oh, sorry for my last information, didn’t remember this. So you can do like a Xone:96, but like I said in the video, I don’t really like this diagram because you can apply fx on all channels, you have the choice because the fx part goes to send then aux, but you can’t choose any channel for the filter part, all channel go into it.
      But you have filter on the PX5 on each channel already so perhaps it’s not a big deal.
      You can decide.
      But both diagram is possible :-)

    • @Iron883NZ
      @Iron883NZ 3 года назад

      The px5 uses inserts only for effects ... so you will be disappointed and it’s only on master and only dry/insert ... no wet. The built in effects on the px5 are awesome already ... I have one

      @@Iron883NZ you have a send/return and an master insert on the PX5 but it doesn’t matter for me since I’ve bought the 96 :-) The PX5 is nice but everywhere I dj there’s a 92, 96 or a 900NXS2 mixer. That’s why I changed the mixer

      You only have a stereo TRS loop master. So same connexion as my Rane MP-2014 but its start and end with TRS.

      I don’t remember what we have on a 62. But if you have a send/return like 92 it will work with Mastersounds wire diagram, if you have an insert it will work with my MP-2014 diagram. 👍
