Dysatisfunctional TV Best Comment Ever
It’s unfair how beautiful the tractor trailer mode is. This is what the 1986 version should’ve been. The usage of the trailer as the core of the combiner mode is genius. I’m also not mad at the length of the trailer. The truck itself is one with the sleeper cabin so it makes sense to have a larger trailer for longer range hauls.
I just pulled the trigger on this guy and I'm going with the DX9 Menasor. A couple friends of mine weren't that big on the idea (iT's ChEaTiNg!), but after owning some OS 3rd party combiners, I was definitely on board. There's a certain critical height/mass that traditional combining just becomes a problem. Seems like with this strategy you get a much more stable and posable combined form that also ends up allowing greater toon accuracy.
Reviewing instructions is a good idea, go for that!
The very first review of yours I watched was the Fansproject Causality, now we are ending the year with this guy, that's pretty cool.

This figure, and review gives me the old school feels, Mr. Skullface. It speaks to the heart, brother. But, I feel the figure's a little too old school, and not enough new school in the engineering. Anyway, Happy New Year to you, your family, and to my fellow collectors out there.

My favorite part is the length of the trailer. Finally someone went for a more realistic alt mode trailer. A trailer is normally 45 feet and a car roughly 10 feet. So 4 stunticons next to the trailer or that fits in a trailer would be great. No if we can only fix the optimus prime trailer so that's more realistic, I guess we have to go with the power master prime in alt mode in that case. I would like to see a picture of that next to this motor master in alt mode, showing the scene when the two trucks went at it head on in alt mode.

question, motor motormaster has nothing to do with combined mode? it's all trailer?
@ Frank Marzegliano - Yes you can use both separately if you will. No problem at all. Its only from behind a little bit hollow so to speak, but it holds fine together! Greetz and a happy new year
The shade of purple on the FT is stunning. It's that classic Decepticon purple. But...the price is keeping me away. I do love the height of the DX9 Menasor, so it's time to go all in on it.
Both the regular bot and the combiner modes seem sturdy and well engineered, I like that the head can look up and down (cleaver engineering there) even though I also don't love the face sculpt. I like that the combiner mode doesn't have parts forming and since in my opinion this TF and the rest of the set should be displayed in the combiner mode it doesn't bother me that they had to throw in a very long trailer. Seems like a solid release but I'm not going to buy two versions of the Stunticons so I still prefer the Fans Toys version. Thanks for the review Mr. Skullface, I wish the Skullface family and all the collector community a Happy New Year!!!

Great review dude. There’s a opening on the back of the combiner leg if you turn it it splits the thigh revealing extra detail
Looks good; if I was a Stunticon fan I'd be in on this set too. As it stands, FT + XTB (G2) is all I have spots for, I think.

First to say if you slide down on the screw at the back of the thigh the thigh pops open like TW Constructor!
Not sure if you caught it yet Bobby, but there are locks on the back of the thighs of Menasor.
Turn them and it extends the thighs forward to make them bigger.

Yeah, I say include reviewing instructions as well. You may translate something in the instructions better than we would. You might also catch something that we may miss in the instructions.
I recall Motormaster having a double trailer. Splitting that in half with another pivot point would've fixed those trailer proportions.
I really like the way the menasor skeleton looks, and the transformation looks to be a joy; and apart from the (maybe too toon-accurate goofy) face) like the robot mode as well (agree that most of the fanstoys one has more presence, but I really dislike the look of the big windows on its feet somehow). On the whole, seems like a well done figure which is good to see.
I'm definitely getting the FT Stunticons. But I may get DX9 for combined mode and have FT in robot mode. I imagine you're gonna have a similar setup with XTB in car mode.
Bobby the stunt-a-cons are my favorite. I want the best G1 authentic looking and scaled Menasor and stunt-a-cons. I am not a collector I would only get one. Which would you recommend?

I want the same authenticity for Bruticus and Devistator. My goal is to have all three on the shelf together. I align with your thoughts please tell me which versions of each Would accomplish my goal?

Hmmmm I’m debating between this one and the fanstoys. The fanstoys I like the way it looks definitely but this one I like that it has that ab crunch(because I like messing around with my figures), and that u basically have menasaur.
05:00 - On the large purple bits under the trailer, are those stress marks, sprue marks, dirt marks, or grease/oil marks?
They looked like sprue marks and scratches/some dirt to me .
The Menasor part of the video suddenly reminded me of that scene from Big where Tom Hanks is confused by the building bot.
Will you do a comparison video once X-Transbots come out with their motor master?
Had the original g1 motormaster,got him the same weekend I seen the movie along with perceptor in August 1986 the summer I turned 7.
Seeing that movie in August of '86 was the highlight of my childhood!

Any news on which character will have the legs to their Orion Pax? Its driving me nuts to just have lil' stumpy sitting on my desk all sad.
Having seen this side by side with Roadking, it's safe to say this is a perfect counter part to Zeta's Superion. It'll be a very playable Combiner, has a strong presence and is "top shelf". It doesn't feel fair to compare with Roadking though, leagues apart.
I think it's odd that Menasaur doesn't need Motormaster to form.
Looks like they took a page from Zeta.
It is a complete fail for me when the middle character isn't even built into the actual combiner. Might as well buy a statue of the combined group and have simple transformers for the various bots.
This makes me appreciate what MMC is doing with Bruticus even more. Now that is impressive engineering without cheating the final build.

You're not alone with this level of parts forming just give me a stand alone gestalt. Then I could mix and match for my individual team members. I'm not crazy about MMCs route, but I like it a hell of a lot better than this.

I somehow really like the engineering though. It looks so intuitive and I especially like how his triceps lock in.

I think the trailer length is more in line with what a semi should be. Mp10 is (and other motormaster are) too short really.

I foresee people crying cause their toy broke in the near future! @Bobby, go ahead with reviewing instructions, great idea since they are part of the finished product and essential to understand the transformation and ensure you do not break your figure due to a wrong manipulation.

I'm ruling out doing MP special teams so I'm not the target audience and I've only ever had good experience (ridiculously tight tolerances aside) with DX9 so I'm sure it will do the job for people who are in on the set.
I applaud how upfront they are being with their customers. The main issue - the length - has been known for a long time, giving fans the opportunity to tap out and go with a different set. They've now managed to be the first to release their combiner mech to prove that they can satisfy their customers in combined form and have done so earlier in the set than either of their rivals.
Conceptually, I find this set very flawed. Having the trailer form the combiner skeleton is my preferred Menasor solution. However, having adopted this approach, their limb 'bots are still oversized, Menasor's cab cannot function independently, the combiner skeleton cannot remain disguised as a trailer when the stunticons are not combined - this seems to avoid, by choice, solving most of the scale issues that a partsforming trailer could solve!
More personal complaints, I'd prefer Menasor to 'own' transforming into just the cab rather than disguise it through the use of faux parts and, as usual for a partsforming combiner, the leader is irrelevant to the combined form. If the partsforming element can disguise as a trailer and the leader 'bot can at least contain the combiner head within himself, I think I could get on board with these partsforming solutions more.
I like the gun - integrating the 'that thing from that episode' within a transforming and more important accessory is cool to me.
I think primes trailer is a pinch short. motormasters is very long, but i think we got used to seeing primes midget trailer.

I do like the way DX9 prioritized making the front of the cab, if not his feet, at least his legs. That's cool. It is strange how they had to compromise with not being able to separate the cab from the trailer though. All that said, I am collecting the X-Transbots set. It will be VERY interesting to see if they can pull off a transforming trailer for the Menasor skeleton in one piece that isn't a mile long, as it seems DX9 could not.
I'm not sure why, but when I see the trailer, I keep thinking that it's meant for carrying livestock.

Wow... when you put it next to Fans Toys it immediately fell apart for me. No match whatsoever.
FT almost always has a better presence compared to the competition.
FT looks more mature....more like an adult collectable, while the DX9 looks like a really nice high end kids toy.
So am I missing something, but it looks like I can just buy Motomaster and the arms for a complete looking Menasor?

I’m strangely puzzled why they went the route of having the double cab windshields on the feet. The faux cab is fine but is a bit weird with it visible with the real cab.

I think you can unplug the robotmode motormaster bit from the rest (that mushroom peg you saw when Bobby transformed it)
I'm going to stick with the XTB, the truck mode on this guy is definitely oversized in the trailer but what bothers me most are those robot mode lower legs and feet. Something is off with the whole bot proportionally too but I can't put my finger on exactly what.
Edit: You mentioned the combiner shell feeling like a children's toy. That's the impression I got when looking at it too. Those huge expanses of just plain colored plastic and very little line work around the lower legs and feet, yikes. I'm glad it's tough enough to hold up, and maybe the cars have some purpose other than just sitting on the back of the leg in terms of how it'll look combined, but if that's the final look for the legs, I think it's terrible. Definitely does not look Masterpiece in any way except for the size.
Parts forming is out of control. I'm really hoping FT just releases Menasor as a separate entity. I'm probably in the minority, but with this much parts forming I'd rather have a dedicated non-transforming gestalt that can be displayed behind the individual bots.

I'm sorry but his feet always bother me. You see the Alt mode truck cab and then what looks like a miniature version of the truck cab & wheels again. It just looks distracting go see the 2 cabs on 1 foot.

Thats why i liked the constructicons most.
Combined mode looks solid and scales properly. That's good, just wish the rest of the set was as good as XTrans or FansToys.
