Affinity, thanks for these. Just FYI I could watch full year of these videos. It's fascinating to just hang out and discover people's individual ways of working, there are tons of unexpected insights. Quite different to normal tutorials. Personally, I’m down for illustration, and editorial layout stuff.
Wow, that was pretty comprehensive and detailed. If you already have a bit of experience with Designer or Photo and understand masks, layers, etc, you should be able to follow along pretty well. And he spent a whole heck of a lot of time in preparing for this tutorial as well a heck of a lot of time in describing all the steps...and for both vector and brush. This was really fantastic!
Another brilliant video. You've had some wonderful artists doing these but Tobias' way of leading us through his work is just the best for me. So clear in his explanations. Please have him do more!!!!!
Fantastic job though Im embarrassed to say even your rough drafts are neater by a million miles than my best efforts. I loved the tip on getting smooth curves by using minimal nodes at right angles, and the two finger tap to multi select layers, which I have been wondering how to do for ages. The gradient speckle effect on the text is brilliant and something I will definitely store for future use. Excellent presentation and very clear especially for your first time. Thank you and Affinity for putting this together.
Extremely detailed and organised, and consequently a highly informative session. Thanks for all the time you invested in planning and presenting for our benefit, and for communicating all the issues clearly and effectively to the audience.
I just _love_ how you have a quirky smile when speaking to the camera! Lol. Makes one love u more! The content was very useful picked up a lot of tips and workflow ideas. Thanks a bunch! Cheers❣️
Well, I can only echo what everyone else has said -- a clear, concise and very instructive tutorial (and no problems with pronunciation or terminology). Thank you, Tobias. May I query something? I use a lot of images I've Googled, but I don't do any commercial work. I guess there's a copyright issue if I want to charge for any work? There are plenty of free-to-use stock photos available of course; but it's not always possible to find something suitable.
Thanks Tina we hope you enjoyed the session as much as we did! All of the techniques (apart from directly using the apple pencil itself) can be done in the desktop app too so hopefully you picked up some useful tips and tricks along the way :). Using the Pencil Tool with a stabiliser setting enabled might be a good alternative if you were looking to duplicate all the processes Tobias showcased too :)
This was great. I just wish Affinity Publisher was available for the iPad as well, so I could use the lettering I create in Designer, in a publishing layout project, without having to export/import between the iPad and Mac. I’d rather just do everything on the iPad with the Apple Pencil.
When I duplicate the movement modifications are not reapply but remain the same (well I mean rather than getting this " movement " Layers remain static) Is there an additional option that I should activate? (I work on Affinity Designer V2 iPad)
Ok, you go with the Raster Version, I understand that, but how do you cope with enlarging that Raster Image if you want it to use on a, lets say A0 Poster... would the pixels be a Problem to enlarge it? I would not dare to do it with Pixelbrusches... because of that...
Any suggestions for someone who has never really used the pen tool before (in any application) to gain competence and confidence in it. I’ve been trying to get my head around it but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it so far. I’m sure I just need more practice with it but right now I don’t feel I’m moving forward. Thanks!
Yes , I was in the same boat, but I took Isabel Aracama class on Skillshare. She has an in-depth class with excellent very thorough assignments for Affinity designer actually she has 2 classes on the pen tool. She also did a class for the 2020 lockdown too for Serif so she is a pro and can teach you so you won’t struggle and you will learn the shortcut keys and why you are using a technique with the pen tool with easy understanding plus she has a channel on RUclips check out her channel and happy creating😀

I hadn’t previously seen a more clear and concise explanation of how to use the pen tool to produce the smoothest curves. Top Tip, Tobias! Thanks.
You are so deceptive to watch, calmly wittling away at the letters, and before you know it you have arrived at something quite spectacular. Brilliant.

Do you have a Affinity desktop tutorial on how you executed the multi-colored 3d drop shadow?
Is there somehow to setting the angle of our brush to make calligraphy brush ?
