    The conflict between shoot ability and ease of carry and concealment has likely existed since the introduction of the handgun. You can't make the G48 smaller, but with enough dedicated practice you can become proficient with the 365. Put the 48 away and only shoot the 365. I have been carrying a handgun for self defense for 47 years. There are many guns in my safe that are far easier to shoot well than the 365X that I carry daily. But regardless of the circumstances, weather or event nothing compares with the 365. Now my range days practice and training is limited to the Sig. I'm only reminding you of facts you already know but everything you learn from shooting the 365 will translate easily to whatever larger gun you choose to shoot. You remind me of my granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and your journey with handguns and the accessories. Keep up the good work and good luck to you

    Fantastic content, thank you. It's always hard for me to think in terms of my wife's size compared to mine, which there is a big difference. (i'm 6'2" 215 lbs and she is 5'4" 115 lbs) I do most of the research trying to find the best information for her concealed carry and your content is pure gold. I think we've narrowed it down to the Glock 42 and P365 380.

    I took the standard grip off of my XL and swapped it for the shorter P365 grip as well, to further minimize printing. However, in doing so, I lost the benefits of a flared magwell and the extended beaver tail of the XL grip. Now, I have the new Wilson Combat P365 grip and it solved the beaver tail issue, and also fits better in the hand with its slightly wider grip and stipple job. You should check it out and let us know what you think.

    Glad you are happy with it. If you want the gun to carry more comfortably against your skin you can take some high grit sandpaper to the areas of the grip that touch your skin, nice thing about the P365 is if you mess up too bad it’s not so expensive to get another.
    Also, small and light guns are easier to carry, I’ve basically switched from my P365 to a Ruger LCP Max, I’m cool with the decreased performance to get a lighter and smaller gun.

    Here's something you can try if the grip is uncomfortably rough. Go to your local bike shop and ask them if they have any scrap inner tubes. My shop gave me an entire bag for free. Find a tube that is just a hair smaller in diameter than your grip and cut a length a bit longer than your grip. Force it on and trim down the excess. The grip texture will hold the tube in place from the inside along with the tension. The rubber still provides good grip but is smooth so your clothes still slide over it and it adds virtually zero width. If you don't like it, just cut it off. It cost nothing but the time and gas to stop at the bike shop, unlike a commercial grip sleeve. It is non-permanent so you don't have to buy a new grip (if your gun supports it like newer Sigs) if you go too far with a Dremel/sandpaper. If it wears out, put a new one on. You live in the South so give this a try to avoid wearing extra layers of clothing to protect your skin. Your hands might smell like rubber after handling it but the smell goes away as the rubber gets a little wear on it. It's certainly not big enough to make you smell like a tire shop.
    Smith & Wesson's M2.0 grip texture is about as soft as 60 grit sandpaper. Great for shooting, not so much for IWB carry even with an undershirt. They toned it down for the Shield Plus but for my M2.0 Compact I had to DIY a sleeve.

    You picked the X because the slide comes optics ready unlike the standard model. If you bought the standard model you’d have to spend roughly 500 extra for a slide that is optics ready. But by getting the X model you only need to spend an extra 50 or so for a grip module. Smart.

Pretty impressed with mines (P365X) and can’t wait to try it at the range. They also offer tungsten rods that can be inserted into the grip module in order to add a bit more weight. I've used a Dremel to tame the grip stippling if it's too aggressive. The stone bit and just barely touching the grip was enough to keep some of the stippling to help grip but not be uncomfortable. It takes about 30 seconds. Could probably do the same thing with an abrasive rock.

    I carried a revolver for a long time before switching to the P365 and and found myself defaulting to aiming along my thumb bone because I was familiar with a more exaggerated grip angle. With the P365 this resulted in a low point of aim. The solution for me was to mentally "aim" with the flat of my palm along the grip backstrap.

  • @jimrhodes8491

    I am going to add my $.02 to the discussion. I have a 43X and a P365 both with optics. Due to the grip angle with red dot sights it is extremely difficult to accurately shoot guns back to back drawing out of a holster. I have found you have to stick to one and practice until it is second nature acquiring your target with the red dot. I am more accurate with the P365 so it is the one I carry. Your miles may vary.

    I like running just the circle on the 507K, but I will say that the new RomeoZero Elite model is a big improvement. The circle is much crisper than Holosun since they use a point-source emitter versus a masked LED. With the new glass lens, it’s appears to be a great value at $180. Since your focus when looking into the Sigs was concealment, I'm curious about whether you looked at or considered the P365 SAS, and what you think about it. I considered the original P365, the SAS, and the XL, which were the only models available at the time. I ended up buying the XL--and I'm completely satisfied with that choice--but the concept of the SAS has always intrigued me.

    • @tessahbooth
      @tessahbooth  2 года назад +2

      I actually tried the SAS a little over a year ago before I bought my Glock 48, and I generally don't have a positive opinion about it, at least for private citizens.
      The "snag proof" thing never made any sense to me, and the sighting system is unnecessarily cumbersome to me. Snag proof wound up translating to "more difficult to manipulate" than anything else. The only time I could see this potentially making any sense is when someone plans to use their gun entirely for deep concealment (entire gun below their belt line), and even then I'm not sure if it would make much of a difference. The P365XL is an excellent choice.

    • @earlmorton1216
      @earlmorton1216 2 года назад +2

      @@tessahbooth, thanks! To me, the SAS and its snag-proof features seemed most appropriate for use as a pocket or purse gun, or perhaps as a backup in an ankle holster. The reviews I saw of it suggested that the sighting system made it much more difficult to shoot accurately. Whatever I chose was going to be my first gun--the one I'd be learning on--and it didn't seem to be a good platform for that. I know that some will say that no subcompact is a good first gun because of the low mass and increased felt recoil, but since I'm retired and need to watch my pennies, it is likely to be my last gun as well. So I decided to put up with a slightly longer learning curve to get something that I was pretty sure I could live with long-term. Thanks for all your great content!

I am considering the purchase of a striker-fired CCW, but coming from a DA/SA background, I find the inability to "thumb the hammer" a little disconcerting, and I'm not a fan of Glock ergos.

      It wasn't necessarily something I felt needed reconciling, just extra care. The SCD is very nice to have, but that's not to say that I feel as if it's imperative for a safe reholstering process. Although, knowing that my Sig has a fully tensioned striker, I holster my gun like a little old lady, very slowly and intentionally. That's not to say that I'm not cautious with my SCD equipped G48, but just to say that I take extreme caution with the P365. That said, I absolutely see it as a downside to the P365, and if I move away from this platform, that will absolutely be a factor.

    I use the rubberized Talon grip on my Shield Plus to mitigate the rough texture rubbing against the skin and works wonderfully. Sells for around $20

    Hahahahaha I remember going back and forth with you about thinking a 48 carry’s better then a (365 or XL or 43x) is insane especially on a female… glad you came to your sense which I’m sure you did as I said you would by carrying that gun everyday and feeling like there is a better opinion and it is not that they are better guns then the 48 but they carry better especially if you’re going to carry 365 days a year now you how it got it’s name. Funny you tagged the silly principle again when that principle prob came out before the modern holsters people have today

    • @tessahbooth
      @tessahbooth  2 года назад +1

      I still think you might be misunderstanding how the principle works. The keel principle still applies here in terms of dimensions, but the keel principle is also a “principle” and not a “rule”, it does apply, but you always have to weigh the cost/benefit of the reduced outward tipping with the increased length.

      @@tessahbooth that’s what I was explaining to you last time… just because a slide that goes past your waste line isn’t some magical thing that will help it carry better… it’s why people chose a 19 to carry more then a 17 and a 43x more then 48 and people honestly choose the 365 or X over the XL to carry personally it I THINK XL is the perfect in between between the 43x and 48

    I had a Glock 43x and didn't care for it same with Glock 19. Plus no milled slide and plastic sights. So tried Sig 365XL loved the gun the sights the slender body just despised the trigger and the way it shot for me it consistently shot and grouped 6" lower with same sight picture as my Glock. So I tried the Hellcat and immediately loved it shoots way better than Glock or Sig.
