Great info. There was literally no guidance that came with my Smart Plug regarding schedules. It took a while for me to realize that you have to create an individual routine for everything On and Off schedule you want. Would be great if Amazon created some "smart" routines, where you could enter the on and off time in ONE routine.
You can. Just use the 'WAIT' command after the 'ON' command. Enter how long to wait (for example 30 minutes), and then enter the command to turn 'off' -Smart Plug Power: ON = -Wait 30 minutes = -Smart Plug Power: OFF =
Agreed, Amazon makes this process waaaaay more difficult than it should be but this tutorial was very helpful! The instructions were perfect step by step. Thank you!!
I am very grateful for your tutorial. I contacted Amazon and the representative didn't know how to set up a routine if the representative was having difficulty imagine me. I am glad that thanks to you now I am able to set up my plant grow lights routine. Thank you so much.
Super EZ and thorough tutorial. Your steps were exactly what you saw on the screen. Your steps were just perfect and matched the app/screen Not sure how anyone can figure it out on the Amazon link. I liked how you only mentioned basics and it went quickly, not giving info not needed. EXCELLENT VIDEO. THANK YOU
Great JOB. Wish documentation came with my smart plug. I followed the video & made notes. I was able to fill in the rest. Some of my smart plugs have 4 (four) outlets independent of each other. Gets tricky. Thanks again Love the Dusk and Dawn routines with the offset.
Wow ...Amazing - this is simply the best, and most effective, step by step instructional video that actually works . Prior to that I was frustrated when my existing Amazon Smart Plug Routines stopped working suddenly for no apparent reason . Like always , I attempted all possible reset procecedures following specific instructions on the Amazon website all to no avail. After watching your video and faithfuly following each step exactly as you described my Amazon Smartplug Routines are now functioning normally. A key step you outlined calls for going to the "Smart Home" step after performing the schedule step and that is not outlined in anything that Amazon conveys ..... Hope this makes sense , just wanted to day thanks and well done !!!
What if you wanted to use a voice command to turn on the outlet but have it go off automatically after a certain time, such as 15 minutes (the time it takes to make coffee).
Thanks for not addressing the issue of govee not being able to link account with alexa. I'm stuck and now have to go try to figure this out. This video only helps if everything works flawlessly.
The tutorial is great, but this is needlessly complex on Amazon's part. You would think that this is a common enough action that one could just click on the device and a sub-menu pops up with options.
Excellent tutorial! I could not figure it out until I saw your great video. I subscribed to your channel and excited to see what else you have to make ME" & my home SMART. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the great instructions. I have a question: My smart plug was in the on position when I set the routines to turn them on and off. Should it have been in the off position before I created the routines? I'm not sure what to do now.
I thought I set up a routine to turn on/ off a light daily, it even showed in activity that it happened, but it did not turn on or off. I missed Step 9 and on, at 2;42, Add Action. Not clear at all that these steps need to be taken to complete a routine. I thought it was to add a different action! Thank you for this video, saved me lots of time trying to troubleshoot.
Thank you for that tutorial. Do you know if there is a way to set a cooldown when you switch on a connected device or plug. I mean for example each time I start the device it will automatically switch off after 30 min without to schedule a specific time to switch on and off?
Excellent video Max, very helpful and I did create schedules successfully on my Alexa Echo Dot with ease following this video, thanks a lot, you are doing a great job and keep up the good work...
I followed you step by step and stopped to match the settings in the Alexa app. Your screen shots matched what I saw. I think I succeeded, although the Alexa app is not intuitive at all. I tried it without the video and ended up with multiple "turn on" for the same item with no turn off. I had been using a smart plug using Broadlink, but it seems that after the I-Phone updates to IOS 15 the app no longer works.
Great video and Thanks! But WOW, can they make it any more complicated simply to set an on/off schedule for a device?!?!?! I knew there was an issue when I had to go to RUclips University to get the answer. Again, Thanks for the great video!!!!!
You're most welcome. Tis the season! LOL. Yeah. I was floored when I went through this that it was that much of a pain. Was curious if it would get better over time, but based on the views this video is still getting the process hasn't changed and it's still a pain. Happy holidays!
Max, Thank you, Thank you so much for an idiots guide to Alexa😄 because ths Idiot has managed to do it whilst watching your video and pausing it, going through the Alexa menu at the same time, with my mobile in hand. You are a star.
Thank you, thank you...I finally got my "routines" to work. But, I did have one more step that you left off...I had to tell it that the routine was from my Echo Dot, not my phone appl.
Amazon you have made this ridiculously over complicated.. who on earth come up with this garbage if it wasn’t for this helpful video it would of taken all day to sort out. To who ever made this video. Thank you 👍
As a prerequisite to this procedure one must first add the device in Alexa app and name it. This procedure assumes that the device, the smart plug, has already been added and named (basement outlet in this procedure).
What I’m wondering is, can a routine be made to turn on a plug for a give time. Like “Alexa, grind my coffee” and a plug is turned on for ‘n’ number of seconds. I’ve already named plug grinder, and I can say ‘Alexa turn on Grinder for 10 seconds’.’ And that works most of the time. Can you routine be made to do this?
What I'm frustrated with while Amazon hasn't implemented this yet with it's Zigbee hub inside is to have trigger's available for light switches and not just motion sensors and doorbells. I sometimes leave the lights on and I have a bunch of zigbee smart light switches(enbrighten) within the house. I don't have a zigbee hub (except for Gen4 Amazon Echo), nor do I have any motion sensors. So let's say I turn on the garage lights and forget to turn them off when I'm not in the room. I would like to set up a routine where "IF the garage lights are on for 45 minues, THEN turn off the garage lights". Unfortunately the Alexa app does not allow this option. It only allows scheduling for sunrise, sunset, and custom time frame, but no monitoring o the actual light. IFTTT doesn't help much either as enbrighten is not partnered with IFTTT. I'm kicking myself right now since I chose a zigbee light switch that's not compatible with a lot of smart home services. :( I have no clue how to get around this.

Is there a way to get my tv to turn off in a certain amount of minutes?
Amazon makes it unnecessarily complicated to set schedules so thank you for the step-by-step instructions
how to do this process in echo dot 4th gen without app
@@heroicgaming7388 you can’t
Absolutely! I had the hardest time scheduling my plug. Failed 8 times.
For real. The fact we both had to RUclips instructions on how to set it up is ridiculous.
This helps, thank you!

Genius thank you. I’d never figured that out in a million years. No other video, including Alexa, covers this. Thanks again, all the best.
Agreed, Amazon makes this process waaaaay more difficult than it should be but this tutorial was very helpful! The instructions were perfect step by step. Thank you!!
Thank you for clear instructions. It would be nice if you could create a on & off schedule in one step.
I am very grateful for your tutorial. I contacted Amazon and the representative didn't know how to set up a routine if the representative was having difficulty imagine me. I am glad that thanks to you now I am able to set up my plant grow lights routine. Thank you so much.
Couldn't figure out how to get a smart plug to work. Worked on it for two weeks. You solved the problem in 4 minutes. Can't thank you enough...
Thanks for the video.
This is the the most convoluted process to set up a schedule I have ever seen.
Kasa smart plugs are way easier.
Great step by step and easy to follow instructions. Thanks for the “no chatter” instruction.
Thank you so much! Two years later and the instructions from Amazon are terrible. Finally got it bloody working properly!!
Awesome. Glad this video helped you out.
Great tutorial video. You got right to the steps. You were easy to understand and follow. It worked perfectly. Thank you!
Super EZ and thorough tutorial. Your steps were exactly what you saw on the screen. Your steps were just perfect and matched the app/screen Not sure how anyone can figure it out on the Amazon link. Great video. Christmas decorations all set to turn off at the same time each night. Thanks!
You are a life saver! I was getting so frustrated but your step by step instructions were so helpful! Thank you!

Awesome. Glad this helped you out!
Dannnnnng they make the easiest commands difficult. Thank you for the guide lol.
Thank you so much. I had been struggling for days and other channels were not as clear cut. But you helped me. Appreciate it.
Thank you so much for this video. What an unnessasarily complicated process to do something so simple. Exactly what I needed though! Much appreciated.
I can’t believe how hard this was to do for someone who has been tech savvy their whole life. Big slip up by Amazon. Thank you!
Absolutely agree! I set up Kasa plugs in minutes, so simple for routine, this one plug is ridiculous to set up a routine!
I have now successfully set my interior lights to come on and turn off automatically each evening - many thanks for the help!
Thank you so much! Amazon's instructions were not user friendly! My plug works now!
What if you wanted to use a voice command to turn on the outlet but have it go off automatically after a certain time, such as 15 minutes (the time it takes to make coffee).
Out of all the videos I found this was the most informative video! Was able to understand clearly thank you so much!
You’re very articulate! Thanks!
Thank you. This was a very easy to follow tutorial....and it worked!
Awesome. Glad this helped you out.
Thanks for not addressing the issue of govee not being able to link account with alexa. I'm stuck and now have to go try to figure this out. This video only helps if everything works flawlessly.
Very nice video indeed. Very clear voice and explanation. Many thanks.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad to see this video is still working and helping so many people out!
THANK YOU for a detailed step by step. My smart plug is now working!
Thank you very much for this RUclips video, very easy to understand, and the steps you show are easy to follow.
The tutorial is great, but this is needlessly complex on Amazon's part. You would think that this is a common enough action that one could just click on the device and a sub-menu pops up with options.
This was very helpful. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank You ! My plug didn’t have a Sunset option, with this setup it works great .👍 😀
A basic requirement of a smart gadget but made stupidly complicated. Thanks for the info.😊
It took a couple of times to get it right but works !!! 😉👍
Thank you so much , you've been very helpful
Great tutorial, step by step precise directions! Thank you!! :-)
Excellent tutorial! I could not figure it out until I saw your great video. I subscribed to your channel and excited to see what else you have to make ME" & my home SMART. Thanks so much!
Thank-you! Clear instructions.
You're very welcome. Glad this helped you out.
Thanks for the great instructions. I have a question: My smart plug was in the on position when I set the routines to turn them on and off. Should it have been in the off position before I created the routines? I'm not sure what to do now.
Great video. One of the best instructional videos I've seen. Thank you!
Thank you for the information but could they make this more difficult!
Thank you! your instructions were clear and easy to follow and it worked. Thanks again :)
Helped out a lot and very easy to understand…Thanks!🙂
Best directions I have ever seen.
Thanks for this. Without this I wouldn't have had a clue what to do. Why do amazon make it impossible to work these things out. Thanks again
Thank you for making a ridiculously cumbersome process much easier!
Thank you .Your video helped me to set up a routine .

Thank you. Worked like a charm. 🎉
Thank you. Video was very well done.
Thanks for the video easy and helpful 👍🏽
Exactly what I wanted. Thanks.

Thanks, this was berry helpful
Do these instructions still work in 2024 using my Echo Dot Gen 5 and the Alexa app (btw I'm on an iPhone) ?
Cheers fella that's that sorted.
Great tutorial video.
Thank you Max! ❤
Thank you, thank you...I finally got my "routines" to work. But, I did have one more step that you left off...I had to tell it that the routine was from my Echo Dot, not my phone appl.
Great tutorial, been trying ages to sort this out. Why so complicated ?. Just wish you could ask Alexa to do it.
Thank you, great video
Amazon you have made this ridiculously over complicated.. who on earth come up with this garbage if it wasn’t for this helpful video it would of taken all day to sort out.
To who ever made this video. Thank you 👍

thanks
Magic, cheers.

100% helped!
Can you put multiple times in one day?

If I set my plugs to go on and off at sunrise and sunset, what is the Alexa app using to determine sunrise and sunset? Phone or router?
Wow. Thanks

Can I say Alexa Tuen on smart plug for one hour? I have an office heater and just need to give it an ad hoc blast
