  • FOX Sports NFL analyst Sean Payton joins Colin Cowherd on The Herd to discuss the latest news in the NFL. Payton weighs in on Patrick Mahomes and debates whether he is the greatest quarterback talent ever. The two discuss a late punt in the final minute of the AFC Championship Game that set the Kansas City Chiefs up for their game winning drive. Payton explains Joseph Ossai’s late hit on Patrick Mahomes was not the right call at that point in the game.

Going out of bounds on your own (not touched by the defender) then coming back in (WRs and gunners) is two. Nothing more than a mental breakdown and lack of discipline. When I was young, a 50 yd FG wasn't even attempted. Now they are common. Even 60 yds is fairly common. BUT - punters do not appear to have evolved like other positions. Maybe that is perception and not reality. IDK. If punters have evolved at the same rate as other positions, I'd expect to see nearly all of them booming 70+ yarders like it was nothing. But I don't. Didn’t have to draft and hope with Mahomes. Multitasker. In class he may be ADD, unable to focus on one task at a time and finish, and instead, reacting, possibly verbally, to every stimuli around. On the battlefield he’s your scout and/or platoon leader. In basketball, he’s your point guard or point forward. Sees the floor and understands what play to make to score.

    The controversy about that last penalty wasn't that it wasn't deserved - it was, Pat was clearly well out - but that one or more holding calls against the Chiefs weren't called which would have offset the unnecessary roughness 15 yards advance. There were several calls against the Bengals (pass interference for touching but not really shoving etc.) that weren't called when the Chiefs did them. That's in part why the officiating became too much a part of the story. But the bottom line is that the Bengals had their receivers and Pat didn't and Pat's team came out on top - mainly because of a ferocious D-line which kept Burrows rattled the entire game pretty much every snap. It's how they lost the SB as well.
    I think too many teams neglect the primary importance of the O and D lines. They are the foundation of any good team.
    But all too often towards the end of a season they are beat up. My suggestion: the season is too long. Start in October and have 12 games instead of 17. Have a bye week for all teams in the middle or give each team two byes, or the second of those byes be after the regular season before the post season so they all get a chance to heal up.
    The refs need to be more consistent as well. Some ref squads are clearly better than others.

    • @scorpionsting600
      @scorpionsting600 Год назад

      @@donarmstrong2182 I personally think they should scrap the holding rule and let the players wrestle any which way they can. And it's too arbitrary. Sometimes they are super-precise about it other times not. Also pass interference. Just fight for the ball. Receivers have to find ways to get past defenders and stay open. Too many rules which require too much (often inconsistent) judgment by refs. It was an exciting game and I like both teams but for some reason I didn't enjoy watching the game, something felt off about it. I suspect it's because I root for QB's to make great plays and don't like seeing them (Bengals) crushed by Defensive backs etc. so can hardly make any plays, or not having their receivers (Chiefs). Or something. In any case, I didn't like the game and don't know why exactly.
      I also didn't like the Philly game but that's just because SF didn't show up. It was a waste of time. Philly didn't even play all that great. And so it goes...
