Beautiful crx and great job guys! 👏 I just thought maybe you might have missed a part, where you have to tension the timing belt by spinning the crank counterclockwise about 3 teeth and then tightening the Tensioner to properly remove any slack. Some folks might not be aware of this procedure if there new. Other then that awesome video John. 🙏
That's not an OEM water pump you removed. It was an Aisin. High quality aftermarket water pump from an OEM supplier. They make a lot of water pumps, oil pumps, brake parts and clutch parts for Japanese cars. Genuine OEM Honda water pumps are usually made by Yamada. You would see a winged emblem embossed on the pump body. The EF8 SIR is a gorgeous car though. Love the period-correct Mugen wheels.
Keihin also makes genuine Honda water pumps.
Great video. Nice to have running in the background while unpacking the new house and thinking of what needs done on my B20 before final install!
It’s crazy to see how they fit all the extra stuff for the power steering with A/C. Would honestly love one of these, maybe one day. Great video I gotta get that cam locking tool😅
Thanks John. Good watch while I'm at the Honda dealer getting a recall done on my FiT.
Beautiful car....
That is a beautiful crx, I love the black Mugen mr5 wheels. I have never seen those in black but they fit the car nicely
He had them refinished. 👍
What a beautiful car.
Thanks for keeping B16A in that EF.
It'll never be swapped as long as this guy owns it I'm sure.
Could definitely do this after watching! Great tutorial 👍🏻
thats one beautiful looking crx! nice video man.
Car looks really good chris.
I use a 32mm socket to tap the camgear seals in works perfect!👍🏾
👍
I didn’t know about that cam locking tool! I’m ordering one asap
Love knowing theres still a beautiful siR crx in ep
Nice CRX and job on the maintenance. Using a paint marker on the crank pulley makes it a little easier to see.
Decals available for purchase again! garagebuilthondas.bigcartel.com/
What a great little car! Hope to see it one day
Great tips. Looks similar to my 1999 Prelude. My 1989 CRX doesn't have power steering.
Wow, much simpler than I thought. 👍👍
This was a great refresher! Awesome DIY video as always!
Haven’t seen a Matsushita compressor in a minute. Beautiful car, that is! With AC!
The cam gears are not interchangeable if you want the timing marks to work.
There are timing marks on both sides of the gears. I believe they are interchangeable.
Are you familiar with that ac compressor. I’m actually looking for a replacement. I was told it’s similar to a U.S. da integra compressor and I’ve also read that the U.S nsx uses the same one? Any input?
I’m so jealous guys! Beautiful car!
What a beautiful crx!!!!!
I learned after you do the timing belt and everything is lined up you readjust the timing belt tensioner by loosening the tensioner bolt and rotate the crank counter clockwise by three teeth and than tighten tensioner bolt back down to 40ftlbs I believe. I just did a b18 swapped crx 2 weeks ago,
👍
Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. There is a reason for the spring on the tensioner. The way he tensioned this belt makes me nervous. Seems like way too much slack in the belt between the cams
Great job with video and explanation of work performed! The video makes it look easier than it usually is when doing these type of jobs.
Hope it helps you get yours done!
@@GarageBuiltHondas I have a good friend who is a Honda Master tech and luckily I can go to him for tougher jobs! He makes every job look easy also! Lol
Always nice to have that guy as a friend. 🙏
@@GarageBuiltHondas You got that right! He's been super helpful over the years! A lot cheaper than having to go to a shop and get robbed!
Glad I found this video. I see most everyone removing the actual cams to replace the seals. Is the way you did it okay? By removing them with a pick or screwdriver then taping them into place with an extension? Seems much easier than removing the cams!
At the age of our b series engines you should probably be replacing the cam cap seal and oil control seals anyway
Thank you for posting this, J!
this is so freaking cool to vdo this for us. thanks John.
I dont understand why you dont install the T-belt clockwise from the crank to Cams to waterpump and finish with the tensioner. The critical distance is the crank to exhaust cam and then the cam to cam. All the slack should be taken up by the tensioner, which is why you should end up there.
That car is beautiful
Sick CRX bro!
Question: Would it be a good idea to put a little anti-seize on the inside of the crank pulley bore to help with removal on the next go-around?
Absolutely!
I have a DOHC ZC motor. Do you think the process is similar? Someone told me it is, but I can't find any decent videos, unlike yours!
It should be very similar.
Me gusta este tipo de videos 👍😁
I have a B18A but I assume it’s the same process. 🤙
Pretty much with the exception of no tool to lock the cam gears.
What a unit!
Co-starring ;John's hand.
Beautiful example! I hate to be a pedant but the interior isn’t stock - the seats and door cards are from an EDM EE8. Lovely example though regardless.
👍
any chance you know of a crx for sale in or near El Paso? I can never find one. I moved to Texas from NJ where I had one. I miss that car so much.
Did the gates pump or tensioner bearing fail yet? (They're chinesium now)
Hopefully not
No
Fingers crossed, I put a gates idler bearing on my daughter's tsx, it began howling in a freaking week.
Why replace the water pump ? Was it overheating?
Peace of mind. I'm the same way, I prefer preventive maintenance to save time/money/effort.
Hey Jon I'm having trouble finding the video where you replaced the toe link/compensator arm bushings you or anyone else might be be able to link it that would be great.

What tire size is he running? I would like the widest I can get on mine.
205/50
@@chriswinters4527 That's decent size and looks good. What size wheel?
@@bobbydelamar606 there 15s I think the color makes them look a bit bigger.
Why did the water pump you removed have a different oring path seating shape than the gates 🤨
Not sure. That area is a flat portion of the block so it did not affect it.
Any suggestions of where I can find a crx? I can’t find any in my state
Just gotta be ready with your cash. They sell quick. Check all the usual spots.
@@GarageBuiltHondas what do you think about importing an SiR? None are currently selling in the US that I know of.
If you have the cash, do it.
Screwdriver at the camshaft while removing the seal doesnt sound like a good idea
Show 🇧🇷🇧🇷
I think you have your tires wrong according to the thumbnail, i think you have your currently passenger tires on the driver side and vice versa
They're good. These are bo directional, just inside/outside.
@@GarageBuiltHondas ohh ok
Looks like the fuel gauge is broken.
