    The Clone Army had to create hundreds of different tactics and combat doctrines because of the size of the Republic Army. Because of this both Officers and Jedi Generals had think outside of the box, and that why both Anakin and Obi Wan had such an amazing combat records because of this. While its true that Republic was able to win many battles, but its was the Battles that were thought of out of the box that destroyed droids armies. While the Droids armies were most of the time stagnate when it came to its combat doctrine, but in the hands of the Sith and their servants created impressive victory against the Republic. General Grevious crave his way to the core worlds was considered downright terrifying to Republic high command, and mind you this was mostly done by a cheap droid army.

      The republic army was completely designed to counter the cis droid army - thats their job - the republic was on the defense - of course it also attacked but generally it was in a loosing position against an amazing cis navy and incredibly diverse and powerful cis army - so yes they always thought outside the box etc in the battles we see - because thats there only chance of victory - the fact that „the good guys“(the faction the tv shows/movies follow) always wins on screen is why we have a distorted view of the clone wars - the republic never had the upper hand and was actually very close to completely loosing the war near the end

      Why it’s true that the Clone Army was made to counter the Droid Army, it wouldn’t matter if the army gets wiped out in a dumb general maneuver. On paper defeating a droid army is easy, but on an individual level troop could panic or fear for their lives.

      @Gaius Wyrden Yeah, really. The CIS were superior to the GR during the Clone Wars. Plot armor and political/Sith intrigue is why they lost. They DID have a diverse army and powerful land vehicles to go with it. They also had hard counters to Clone Troopers, like the BX, Super Battle Droid, and other experimental and less known droids. Even droidekas were great against clones and most Jedi. Legends General Grievous himself is arguably the most efficient Jedi killer of all times. Many believe he would beat Vader in a pure lightsaber fight. Even Count Dooku knew Grievous would surpass him one day, and tried to start an experiment to make him force sensitive. Sidious feared that and thought otherwise...
      Numbers win wars. It doesn`t matter how good your soldiers are if you can`t afford to lose them. Or if they don`t get the required Kill death ratio against the enemy`s meatshield or break and/or demoralize them. That`s no problems for droids, but it is for the Republic. Geonosis isn`t the only forge world in the Star War`s Galaxy, come on dude. Even if it were, what about the trillions of others Droids that are already made? CIS were far from defeated, but were "losing" if you go by late war territory. Even Legends lore stated that the war seem like there was no end in sight. When I read that, it doesn't give me the impression that the CIS were losing. The Fact the CIS even had the Strength to attack Coruscant, only shows how power they were. Even thing, but Lucrehulks and Providence Dreadnought, can quickly be replaced from that battle. Funny how the Republic never set foot on Raxus Secundus until the shutdown was given and it became the Galactic Empire...
      The diverse CIS Navy was also much better than the Republic, and even had numbers to go with it. A Munificent, the CIS main ship, is even better armed than the Venator Star Destroyer XD . It can even carry a large amount of latched on starfighters on the outside of the ship. Sure, its armor is weak but the shields are actually decent for the Munificent`s size. They come in packs and out range pretty much anything else in the Republic`s navy. Droid fighters can even hang upside down in CIS hangars, making room for more space and Starfighters. These are just a few advantages they had over the Republic. CIS all the way!

    I love how the Republics general initial strategy for land invasions was to bypass superior enemy space defences and land its superior troops by using fast moving blitzkrig like attacks to overwhelm enemy positions and how it compares to that of the rebels. I like to think that as the rebellion's aim was to restore the republic they had studied republic battle strategies and understood why they were so effective against the CIS which focused on overwhelming firepower as the Imperial navy did.

      @Pasha Staravoitau you don't understand galactic combat- neither side has the wherewithal to defend the entire planetary base every time. sometimes they do- thats where you get the 3 year sieges. in most cases, on most planets, there's only one city of note- generally it has the spaceports (Mos Eisley, Theed, Cloud City), and on many others theres only a single military base (Hoth, Yavin IV, Endor, Utapau), on a further segement there are worlds with severely limited areas of habitability (Ryloth, Kessel).
      Not every planet is Earth. In fact Earth is pretty close to Coruscant when looked at on a scale including places like tatooine.
      They dont need millions per planet. Depending on the mission, clones would need a battalion (for militia raising), to a Division (on single strike worlds) and perhaps a corps (most long defended worlds). Only in a few cases would they potentially need millions- and in those cases, they didnt have it and had to make do with limited-front warfare.

Even in it's space battle doctrine and the use of interceptor style aircraft and use of specialist ground units down to what I assume is the battalion level and larger specialist formation down to the Corp level.

    One of the things that annoyed me about _MOST_ Republic battles during the CW was the lack of establishing Base Camps and FOBs. The lack of supply dumps, field hospitals and defensible positions (such as bunkers and trenches) would, and should, have really hampered their campaigns. Because if they relied on using their ships for such facilities any force that began contesting the skies or space would interrupt their supply lines and prevent injured troopers from getting medical help.

    I think droids had more formal organized tactics meant to overrun enemies with wave and waves of troops. They used tanks to then help the troops advance while bombers and fighters took down enemy vehicles.
    Clone had a more unorganized strategy. They deployed fighters to take down droid fighters and vehicles. Clones unlike droids were much more strategic and independently smart. Clones would scatter for cover and take shots at droids from cover. They used tanks to flank the droids sides and troops would take on the central forces. Jedi would be away from the battle but then join once the strategizing was finished. Clones would then do what they thought was necessary to make an advance or hold a position.

    If you're talking about plot, that exists in the form of Darth Sidious. That Sith was cockblocking every potential strategy the CIS had for a decisive victory. They were never meant to win the war, just weaken the Republic enough for Sidious to take over.

    One thing I still don't understand to this day is why in most of the battles we see in the clone wars, The Republic made sure to send in their Light armored and rather slow gunships transporting their assault force go into the heat without CASsing the fuck out of enemy positions and enemy AA and AT emplacements with their bombers or even strafing runs from their fighters.
    If I had to guess it would have something to do to help the continuously growing hatred for their enemies and jedi get even bigger, resulting in way less clones sympathising with the jedi or whatever opposing force
    PS: We know that they CASsed them sometimes but not as often as we'd see in the show, so I'm not saying they never did it.

    • @tracerwg8328
      @tracerwg8328 4 года назад +2

      The empire did use droids, just more advanced droids that were better than traditional B1 battle droids. Clones that served the emperor grew old and became obsolete as the Empire recruited children and people from pre-tech civilizations.

    • @tracerwg8328
      @tracerwg8328 4 года назад +1

      When you say droid armies, I understand you refer the clone wars droids like B1, droideka, commando, etc. These droids DID exist after order 66, but the underlying purpose of the CIS was to have a false enemy and so many were abandoned. This answer I’m not sure about so correct me if I’m wrong.

  • @markgross1034

    The primary issue with the army and naval doctrines of Star Wars lies in the genre of Star Wars itself. Star Wars is a space opera, and like most opera, the war part exists as window dressing for the characters to have dramatic moments in. Any close examination leads to the setting very quickly falling apart. Space ships are so poorly designed in setting it’s a joke, with their nonexistent heat management systems, exposed command centers, and incredibly slow speed and short weapons ranges. Ground isn’t much better, with slow, poorly designed vehicles such as the AT-TE forming the bulk of Republic armor, instead of fast, low profile vehicles such as the saber tank.
    The most egregious mistake is not in the design or doctrines of these armies, however. The worst part is how small the armies and navies of both sides are. Despite the Republic owning the main industrial and financial hub of the galaxy, made up of tens of thousands of solar systems, they can’t muster a fleet more than a few thousand venators And other craft, and an army so small that it would not be capable of controlling a single heavily populated system, let alone subduing half a galaxy. The CIS, with their mostly automated production, would outproduce the republic so fast that the war would be over in a year and a half. Each clone trooper takes ten years to grow and train, and no matter how many droids he takes down before he dies, a thousand times more have already rolled off the production line.
    Essentially Star Wars has never gotten the wars part of its name even remotely correct. I do commend you for trying to make sense of the absolute mess that is military tactics in a Science Fantasy setting though. Good video overall.
