7:14 Oh my god, his face at Kiki resting on his lap. You know what's funny? Animals tend to be more trusting of certain people for various reasons and one of them is if the person is genuinely good natured. Cats especially tend to have a single favorite person who they'll hang around the most while only tolerating, at best, others. So, Kiki letting him pet her and even resting on him is a sign of trust and also a sign of Sir Pentious's nature as a person at this point.

I love Pentious because I find him relatable. He's a failure. He fails to defeat Alastor, he fails to help the Vees... His entire life is a huge succession of failures.
Because of that, he craves for acceptation, the acceptance he never had in his life. At first he's looking to get that acceptance from the Vees.
But because of that craving for acceptance, even when he's a spy, he gets genuinly involved in the hotel's activities because, once again, he wants to be accepted by others.
But even when the Vees acknowledge him and ask for his help, he fails once again. He's at rock bottom because this was the one thing to not fail.
He feels miserable because he keeps failing, but Charlie lends him a hand. For the first time, he sees that someone accepts him, and not for what he can or can't do, but for who he is.
Charlie couldn't care less about his power. She genuinly wants to help him. He's very moved by this, and he decides to stay, at the one place where he truly felt accepted for the first time, and to become better, for the one person who accepted him as he is.
And as a fellow failure who craves the acceptance and recognition that I never got, I can really relate.
I'm really glad that my favorite character got to go to Heaven. I just wish that his death ray would have at least scratched Adam or something.
This would have been the moment where he should have not failed for once, but he did. I mean he succeeded by getting into Heaven, but I wish he could have helped switch the ties in the battle against Adam, even just a bit, before dying.
He was at least shown commanding effectively before his death, so he got SOME moment of effective badassery.
Ultimately I think him getting a bone throw there but his dying moment still being a total whimper kinda works poetically. That no one expected his curtain call to be that damn significant, but the selfless gesture means Sir Pentious has came back an angel and completely vindicated Charlie's ideals and the Exorcists are fundamentally endangered from killing what was seemingly just a random comic relief mook, who is now living evidence they were wrong in their home turf. Compare it to Alistor or Vox, two of Pentious' biggest hecklers, who clearly have some setbacks in dealing with fights they cannot win for once. Sir Pentious being a 'loser' ended up being the big game changer.
@e-122psi3 Vox and Alastor believe themselves to be untouchable and invincible, which is why the latter ran when Adam broke his defense and the former is a coward who decided to hide in his tower and scavenge from what would remain in the aftermath of the Extermination. Pentious knew he was weak and vulnerable in comparison to Adam and his angelic power but in the end cared more for this friends than his own safety. We went down martyr style and was unashamed to do so. Hence why he finally took his shot with Cherri as he knew his number was probably going to be up and did the one thing he wanted to do before biting the bullet. It’s a good yet simple character arc that works and works well.
@@hobbitshole Yeah, I always kinda like those deconstructions of 'winners' and 'losers'. Most of Pentious' rivals are self preservationists, desperate to stay on top of the chain at all costs and their confidence shattering the moment they start to fall down. Pentious ultimately just wanted someone to appreciate him, when he got that he'd gladly take whatever loss in stride to stand by them, which gets him deemed a true angel. Granted Alistor and Vox also have friends in their own twisted way, it's just whether they'll make the right choices with them in the future. They can't 'win' forever and they know it.

Pentious went from Sinner to Winner. He was my favorite this season. Honestly ironic a snake is the first sinner redeemed.
Alex brightmans performance (as both him and Adam) really brings the whole character together for me. I’ve seen Alex live twice and he’s just as amazing in person
Definitely agree! Love his performance in the Beetlejuice musical, and the voice acting/singing he's done with Vivzie are some of the best! ^^
You're really saying what we're all thinking... Sir Pentious is the GOAT. I also imagine him being SOOOO distrustful and uncomfortable in Heaven.... I'm picturing the first thing he says when he sees his HH family is that he misses them and wants to come home... which raises even MORE complexity about the theme because it's like... is heaven really heaven without the people you love there? When you don't feel like you're home? Not only is he just so based but his scenario makes him a HUGE driver of the whole show's conflict. So fucking cool.

I agree this man was a CHAD the entire season. I think the best part about him was the fact that his character change in the end was an inverse of how he was at the beginning of his story.
Sir pentious craved recognition but when he rode off into a confrontation with Adam he cast that aside and was only thinking about the people he cared about.
Yeah, it's why I think the Vees will be interesting when they step in as villains proper. They're focused entirely on publicity and grandeur while being blatantly horrible people. Sir Pentious makes apparent that getting into heaven is defined by quality of character, he was a "loser" but ultimately a sincere and selfless person. If the hotel becomes popular, I wonder what tricks the Vees will pull to 'cheat' heaven out of taking away their custom.

The interesting thing about _Hazbin Hotel_ is that yes, it’s got _plenty_ of flaws, but the more you think about certain aspects, the more certain things make sense. Of course people would’ve sooner expected Angel to ascend first given he’s gotten more general focus than Pen and has been with the group since Day One, but thinking more about Pentious and his background, him ascending _and_ his entire arc just become a big series of “of course”s.
The guy’s been in Hell for over a century (incidentally making him the second oldest person in the hotel after Charlie), and judging by his reaction to Vox screaming at him to kill himself, it seems Hell has actually done its job of making his afterlife miserable, and Vox was just the final nail in the coffin that broke him. He’s been living in distrust, suspicion, and paranoia for all these years, and supposedly the only way to actually get any sort of security down here is by forcing your way into influence via intimidation. But he’s not very good at the whole supervillain thing, so no one takes him seriously. This disrespect and having no one on his side but his artificially-made, sycophantic Egg Bois has definitely taken a toll on him.
And you’re absolutely right, he doesn’t even need to talk very much to make it clear that being in the hotel’s much calmer environment brings out the best in him. Over five months, he goes from being very willing to attack Angel to more-or-less being his brother from another mother. Even tiny background details like giving Charlie his Emotional Support Puppy Dog Eyes™️ or reacting to Keekee choosing his lap to sit on the same way any cat person would just make him absolutely precious. And his interactions with Cherri make it clear that he once saw her as a (semi-?)reliable constant in his afterlife back in his supervillain days. And the moment he says “I didn’t think this would ever happen,” you just *know* that he’s thought about it before and has definitely had a crush on her for a *_while,_* haha
Best thing about his crush on Cherri, by the way? When he attempts to explain to her _why_ he likes her, it’s things that make sense. In his own nerdy, Saturday Morning Cartoon supervillain way, he basically tells her that he admires how tough she’s always been whenever they’ve gone up against each other, and how bold and smart she is and how much it shows in her field of expertise. He may be an awkward dork, but he’s become an awkward dork who knows what he’s about. This sort of openness and earnestness? It’s exactly what makes that kiss feel so satisfying. I’m so proud of our Snek Boi 🐍💕
In short, between his penance as a wannabe Overlord and the personal improvement he’s made at the hotel, he’s long made up for whatever got him into Hell in the first place and absolutely earned his spot in Heaven. He and Emily definitely need to tell Charlie and the gang and I really hope his ascension can serve as motivation for Cherri. My CherriSnake shipper heart demands it. We love the Snek Boi in this house 💛

Adam called it, you never see Sir Pentious steal, he turns out to be pretty selfless, and his final moments he's stickin it to the man.
Gotta agree. Pentious was my fav since the Pilot, and seeing him not only be featured, not only becoming part of the main cast, but being THE FIRST redeemed was unimaginable for me.
Also, I'd like to add, that his reactions basically in every scene are heart- melting. From the watery eyes when Charlie talks with her dad, up to him just admiring Lucifer, before Mimzy moves him out of the way.

I didn’t care for Sir Pentious in the pilot and didn’t understand why he was in the main series but I’m so glad they had him! He’s such a cinnamon roll and I hope he and his egg bois are living it up in Heaven

I was so angry when they killed him. But when he appeared in heaven at the end of the story I had the biggest smile on my face. I too let out a very Loud abs Obnoxious "Fuck YESSS" at his arrival in heaven

Im glad i was not the only one who was like "FCK YEAHH!" When Pentious got redeemed
I love how the major thing that was keeping him back was his insecurity, low self esteem and lack of true companionship, its written all over his design, with eyes in his underbelly and the ones on his hood constantly watching him when its folded. Once he got to live in a safe space with people that loved him and didnt berate him he became a better version of himself almost instantly.
I also love his paralels with Charlie. Both of them have very ambitious goals, they originally get no respect from the vast majority of people in Hell despite both of them having considerable powers/skills but are unable to use them as efficiently due to their personalities.
Rewatching the series I also realised how much these two actually seem to be the only ones who have complete faith in one another without need for any further persuation. For one they never make fun of or make snarky comments about each other. Charlie helps him confess his love to Cherri and admires him when he takes the role of General and Pentious always goes along with her exercises with 0 complain.
Amazing. Everything you said was correct.
Not to mention Sir Pentious goes full throttle as commander in the final battle for Charlie and knowingly sacrifices himself just to give even the slightest upper hand for everyone. This is what sets off Charlie's 'demon mode' and causes her to fight Adam, which leads him to try kill her, which gives Lucifer free reign to step in. The whole chain reaction to the hotel being saved started from Charlie and Pentious' loyalty to each other (though there's definitely some passion in there for Vaggie and Cherri Bomb as well :P), and it's likely gonna go even further with Pentious in heaven now.
I like how both Charlie and Pentious kind of bumble their way to a big victory but in the noblest way possible.
I love how expressive sir pentious can be he certainly isn’t my favorite character but he is a very good character

Man, I'm sad he isn't part of the gang anymore but for him to be the first one redeemed is definitely well earned. What a fantastic character arc.
Sir Pentious works so well because he's not just a loveable character but he compliments the main protagonist. He vindicates Charlie both in universe and out.
In because he genuinely atones for her and in the end is deemed an angel, fully validating Charlie's work.
Out because well, people root for Sir Pentious and so they root for Charlie. Charlie treats Pentious the same way the audience do the sympathetic loser villain (as in feel sorry for them and want them to do better). Charlie establishes herself as a bizarrely likeable adult cartoon protagonist by completely bulldozing Pentious' fate as the 'Meg Griffin' of the cast, she supports Sir Pentious, and so Sir Pentious develops because of her and the culmination of his arc ends up Charlie's first big W.
And it helps that she does feel sorry or pity for him, but is genuinely wanting to see him do better. A little like Nightcrawler when he’s that church in X-Men 97 (Original). And she doesn’t flaunt her status as the Princess of Hell at any point beyond attempting to help Angel and when she tries to negotiate with Heaven. Shes got Emily on her side for sure.
@@hobbitshole Really I love how by the finale, Charlie is basically that little sister who thinks Sir Pentious is her hero. She gushes over his general attire, she roots for him getting the girl, she gets her emotional second wind from his death, she even makes a shrine for him in the new hotel which is twice as grandoise as anything he has ever made.
The freaking Princess of Hell that could likely crush Sir Pentious like an ant in the wrong mood, but she 100% buys it, her cobra onichan says he's a badass so that he is. To be corny, Sir Pentious is Charlie's angel.

im glad hes getting the praise he deserves. i dont expect him to ever be as popular as angel or alastor, but hes my favorite and i saw WAY too many people glossing over him or even disliking him before the finale.

I do agree, but it would suck to see him get beaten into the ground. That would come across as far more tragic and slightly disrespectful. He went out his own way, on his own terms.
I kind of found it funny that Sir Pentious, a character who was originally made to be a one-off villain in the pilot, ends up being the best character out of everyone in season 1, when most of the characters were planned from the very beginning.
I'm so glad that the writers decided to make him a part of the main cast.

When I tell you I literally sobbed in the finale song, thinking Pentious was gone, completely forgetting the redemption concept XD
On occasion the finale song will pop up in my feed and if I decide to watch it I often forget he was redeemed and still kicking as well. When Charlie and Keekee are sad atop that banner, you can feel the emotions rising.
I think Pentious is my actual favorite character. But i have a soft spots for snakes anyway.

Yes he is in heaven, but all his friends (and egg boys) are in hell. And he probably isn't going to be too popular in heaven at first too being looked down on by many angels combined with his own social awkwardness.
I'm calling it now, the first redeemed soul, might want to go back to hell. Which might become Emily's challenge.

Pentious is my favorite character!! His personality is a lot of fun and he's downright hilarious, yet also, he's shown the good in him since his stay. He participates in Charlie's activities more than Angel, who's more slowly coming around to the idea of being redeemed, he learns to trust others and accept their kindness, he shows humility when he finally tells Cherri he loves her, before he's ready to admit it he shows generosity by buying everyone drinks, and in the end he makes the ultimate selfless sacrifice by at least trying to kill Adam and risking his life. He earned his redemption and I can't wait to see him in season 2! (Since I think Viv said he'd be playing a big role in S2 up in heaven)
On Cherri: I think she's gonna be accepting of the idea of redemption, but I don't think she's gonna fully commit to redeeming herself until Angel goes. Having her best friend and Pentious in heaven would be enough motivation to convince her to try getting there.
On the eggs: they honestly don't seem to mind being yelled at since he also tells them to go clean his room this instant!! They also have little emotional reaction to him being on the verge of tears telling them to go so I think the eggs probably can't read tone at all. In the pilot they only expressed some confusion because "that wasn't us, boss."
Not gonna lie I was waiting the whole time in the show to see an OldBoy reference of some kind. I don’t know why but I did.

We shall see. Saw a comment that said that he could be in Hell’s Heavenly office and help others ascend by saying how he got to go up. Might be wishful thinking, but it’s an idea.

Vox is just as bad, based on what I can tell, but he’s far more petty. They both control in similar means, except Vox uses subtly in tech whereas Val uses force.

Honestly his death was too quick. He should have been able to actually fire the ray only for adam to tank it like it was nothing then dispatch him like he did in the show. That would bring more weight to the death and make adam seem like an unkillable foe and really cement the feeling of hopelessness
Vox has hired literally everyone in town except for Sir Pentious, one must wonder why. I think it's because Vox hates old technology as much as if not more than Alastor does. And Alastor has proven to be skilled with modern technology in spite of hating it, which is why Vox wanted him on his team. Pentious wanted to prove that the type of technology he loves could be a success, but he should've befriended Alastor instead since they have that in common. Shame he had to go to Heaven so soon.

I do not think angel and husk should be a couple. I think they work better as good friends.
Regardless of being friends or a couple, they’re great.
The really dumb fact is the ONLY thing that got him into heaven was sacrifice. He gave his life for his friends. The bible literally says "He that finds his life shall lose it, and those thst lose their life, shall find it. He found his one true purpose, being a martyr and in dying, got redemption into heaven.
But he went down swinging.

@@leonarddement3432 I mean it works as a hilarious middle finger to the Exterminations, that it wasn't even losing the big epic battle that cost them, it was their own general beam flicking this random comic relief guy into Heaven, while commenting on what a close call it was. XD
