I'm still waiting for one of these episodes to end with Matt realizing there's no one on the planet he was supposed to go, finding out he doesn't have the delta-v to get back, sending out a signal, and....the next episode being a guest rescuer for Matt.
Matt, you want to go to the settings in the main menu, go to graphics settings, and disable the setting called "Always Show Closest Approach for Target." That'll fix the Jool SOI problem.
*On a lonely planet, slowly spinning its way to damnation, amidst the incompetence and unpreparedness of lesser space programs, One team stands resilient against the herds! Putting their lives on the line to aid players who were previously unaware of the Quicksave option! Yes it's the incredible adventures of Jebediah and his crack team of Kerbonauts! They are... THE BLUNDERBIRDS! Saving the Kerbin race one stranded explorer at a time.* I love that intro.
Matt, your videos are always good fun, but this... This is literally everything I like about this channel: Long, complex missions; Science mode playthrough; 30+ minute commentary, where you go on a weird tangent every now and then; Crazy crossovers (And *It's Scott Manley*); Cool and original craft designs; Tips for beginners, while being interesting for advanced players. I absolutely love this, feels like old-school Matt Lowne. I love this series, please, do more like this!
Matt, I'm so grateful for your creation of this channel. You have allowed me to see how nice the space community is. You've also gotten me in the newspaper near to where I live, I already said this on Twitter too lol. Love your vids and thank youuuuuu
Hi maybe a bit of advice, you can rightclick on the chutes and engines etc in the staging menu on the left, that way you would need to fight with your mouse!
Having Scott Manley pop up was a lot more exciting than I thought it would be! I'm glad everyone has approached this as a bit of good fun, it's great to watch.
The stutter glitch might be caused by a high conic patch limit meaning there is a high number of trajectory calculations being done with many unwanted encounters with jools moons.
The first rocket looked like the Ares IX feel in love with a Delta IV Heavy and the second one was Ariane V, Atlas V and Dyna-Soar all mashed together in the most Kerbal way possible. Actually really loved both the craft and Great video! These collabs are the best! PS: I did notice that you acknowledged these similarities, you are quite a learned individual.
Matt offering to send everyone quiches has made me more interested in this channel and wondering how well a quiche will travel in the post to Australia
10:07 Titan-IIIA/X-20 Dyna-Soar is an interesting vehicle. It would have been the only Titan launcher to have fins, for the exact reason given in the video. The X-37C is set to be launched exposed on top of the Delta IV, Atlas V, or Vulcan Centaur in the near future.
My prediction for the last episode in this series: Matt will somehow be the last stranded kerbal, and all of the other kerbals he has saved will come and save him. That would be cool :D
almost every video of matt i loose interest about two thirds or three quarters in and then he comes around with a random story of how he came to buying a new toaster and catches my attention again. i love it
Hi Matt. About your crashing problem, try watching your RAM usage in the task manager as you play. The game loads resources to RAM, if the amount of RAM needed is more than what your computer has available the game crashes. Normally it wouldn't happen with your computer specs but since you're using modded textures and the recording program at the same time that might be it. Good luck :))
I don't think there's a workaround those crashes. I'm a software dev and it sounds to me like you were talking about garbage collecting. basically what that is, is that the framework is looking for objects (like a maneuver node) that are no longer referenced anywhere, and disposes of them. it's possible that the game keeps track of those object by one of their properties, that is instead of being referenced, is copied by value. So the framework thinks that there isn't a reference anymore and disposes the object. then when the game tries to find that object by that property, and does any sort of operation on it, it raises a null reference exception and crashes the game. thank you for coming to my TED talk.
This antagonising flaw has been quickly put in vain thanks to a module in the MemGraph mod (not advertising), which somehow collects garbage without destroying both the game experience and also the game session!
Music is "Pushing Onwards" from the VVVVVV soundtrack, incase no one noticed or said it. Great soundtrack and great game. Should give credit to them because they deserve the attention!
I’ve been working on and launching a rescue mission for an ssto on Laythe, and the vessel was assembled in lko and had a ssto lander and a interplanetary vehicle too, it’s strange how similar our missions are
This is evidently what I should do too. I sent a kerbal to Laythe in an SSTO because it was easy and I was really tired of planning everything. I was all, "Oh look, my new plane I've never tested before is in Kerbin orbit with enough delta-V to get to Jool. I've been playing the game for ages and haven't got there yet; I'm going to do it!" So I got a crunky gravity assist from Tylo, used the last of my fuel to get an encounter with Laythe, and somehow landed this untested spaceplane which thankfully turned out to be very stable. And then I spent the next 3 months trying and failing to make a bigger SSTO to rescue Jeb! ;)
I find it very difficult to believe that Scott got stranded anywhere in a safe.. I don't believe this plot point.. but good to know there is always a rescue mission ready if such a scenario were playlsable..
matt: switch them into afterburner mode! which I think is more efficient than the rapier engines in air breathing mode also matt: don't quote me on that one also matt: I am dissapointed in you me: 🥺

To answer you question on the game crashing in the Jool system - if you play on Steam, right click KSP on the left side of your screen where it shows your games, then click the one about local files or configuring (forgot the name of it). Mess about in the menu until you find the button that says something along the lines of 'Clean Local Files'. Click it and it will start making backups and rebooting all the files. I did it 3 times and it fixed.
Matt: so here we are at low Kerbin orbit 3 seconds later Matt: so let's do some science near Laythe wait what Edit: I,m not blaming you they look the same
Transferring personnel through fuel tanks... could be a real problem one day. And easily doable; I'm thinking that the fuel tank could have a hatch on either side. A inflatable, thin and strong tube connects the hatches on the inside. When the fuel tank is full, the tube is deflated and takes the least amount of volume. Perhaps it's twisted or tied somehow. Once the fuel tank is emptied somewhat, the tube can be inflated and the hatches opened. Bonus points if the tube can eventually expand to the site of the tank; turning it into a wet workshop ala Skylab.
Re: the power issues. UPS are not ridiculously expensive and SOOOOO worth it. I work from home and have a fairly high-end UPS for my monster computer and its monitors, and a second smaller one that handles the cable modem, router, and my POE switches. funny thing about over the hedge: for about 5 year when I was still in like, middle school/early high school, my dentist's office had a small TV in the waiting room and all it did was play a DVD of that movie on loop, all day. For YEARS.
I can hardly understand how anyone could code a game to have serious memory management problems over a mathematical computation. It's probably the current fashion for allocating everything afresh just in case some abstruse code in a barely-related part of the program might possibly in some unimaginable (but no doubt certain to happen) scenario somehow be trying to use the result of the bad computation before it was deleted. ... That was my best effort at understanding the problem, and I still think it's completely stupid. And nobody tell me "NASA supercomputer" because in the mid-90s, the Minor Planets Center was tracking 30-40,000 objects from LEO satellites to trojan asteroids _with a surprisingly low budget._ Thirty to fourty _thousand_ in the _90s,_ and KSP can't even... 😥😥😥 But anyway, when I wasn't trying to work out "what is this code I don't even", I thoroughly enjoyed the video.
