I just came here to hear ur voice Reed. Long time zombies fan, didn't ever play Last of Us but just wanted to hang and hear ur thoughts on gaming. Cheers!
There’s a quote I think it’s from Naruto lmfao but I think it relates to Ellie really well. “Once someone learns to love they must also bare the risk of hate”
Still have another hour to listen to your discussion when I get the chance, but I wanted to say good luck with whatever you decide to do following RUclips. Whenever you feel like sharing your thoughts like you did with this review, people will always be here to listen. Always respect the hell out of your discussions and opinions because of the way you present them.
I’ve always appreciated hearing your opinions and views on video games (mainly zombies). It was very interesting hearing your thoughts on TLOU2 even though I disagree on some things, which is natural! We’re all entitled to our opinions and preferences. Personally I loved the game and understood most decisions that were made. Most videos and comments ramble on without giving reason as to why they hate/love the game, so this was very refreshing and in depth. You’ve always done a great job at that. I couldn’t be more satisfied to agree to disagree on some of these topics! Keep up the excellent work👍
Rofl My Waffles yeah it definitely is lol but I’m my opinion the scene is perfect for the story getting the player and Ellie mad, getting the story moving.
One of Neil's most famous quotes is "We don't use the word 'fun.'" That's an interesting statement, because while that's a fine belief to have, it's dangerous when making a game. TLOU1 struck a perfect balance between being a video game and being a movie, in my opinion. TLOU2, however, leans more towards the movie side. Some of the cutscenes are incredibly long, which can really take a player out of the moment especially if they're not invested in the story. If you make a $60 triple-A title that's more of a movie than a game, the story needs to be excellently constructed and well written. That's why a fair amount of people have no issue with games such as Beyond: Two Souls or Detroit: Become Human.
Took me a few days and multiple watch sessions, but I finally finished watching this! The timestamp function is a godsend. As somebody that doesn't own a playstation and doesn't get the chance to play this personally, I'm really glad you stuck through with the game on stream. I definitely agree with you and can't wait to see how this game ages despite its faults.
Thank you so much for this video. I went on the exact same journey like you after the game trying to read each and every perspective, analogy and opinion. Im glad i found someone else who relates to the game the same way i do. While im not done watching the whole video yet, but at the Introduction alone i already see what you felt I also felt. Great video that i really needed as i too have been non-stop thinking after finishing this game.
I guess I'm one of the only ones that really enjoyed this game for what it is. I played the first one about 4 or 5 years ago and when I knew this game was coming out the director said that this game was going to be nothing like the first one and that it was going to be all about revenge and what ellie has gone through so I actually really enjoyed the story and the game four what it is. the one part that I didn't like is playing as crabby abby for half the game to me that was pretty unnecessary they could have easily told her story through cutscenes so we could play more as ellie or someone else idk.
Great intelligent review. I agree with lots of your points about this game. I was 50/50 liking and disliking the game some great stuff mixed with a lot of bad stuff. TLOU 3 should be interesting if/when it happens.
Thanks reed, you really said basically what my opinion has been about this whole thing around the 9:50 mark. I am not so entitled that I think a video game developer has to tell the story that I want to hear. If you are willing to let yourself feel and be open minded, your heart will break and then you will see things from another perspective through this story. Most people have a VERY hard time with this. It's why people can't change their beliefs on things - they refuse to see things through another lens. I can say the hate has only benefitted the developer, SO much talk about this game.
REED! I know that you know that treyarch zombies is coming back in COLD WAR. I know you stopped doing zombies for a while. But I’m wondering if you would be willing to cover it? This is the only way I know how to reach you lol. Thank you for your channel and your charisma. I just miss you talking about zombies. 🙏🏼
I found it quite interesting you mentioned the other games dont draw you in, but this did. Take example Control: it's probably one of the most unique third person shooters ive played in years (in terms of both story and gameplay), and I felt that TLOU2's gameplay is just cookie cutter third person gameplay, much like red dead 2. Its refined and responsive, but its not much different than its predecessor or any other TPS game.
Papi Slayer the prior investment in part one brings me back to the upgraded system. I could get through the first hour of control despite knowing everyone raved about its gameplay. The story felt so whatever I couldn’t stick. Same with fallen order. I haven’t even loaded up death stranding and outter worlds. I’m so backlogged.
@@Radaustin27 True, that is one hugely undestated benefit of game sequels/franchises in having the player's investment before they even pick up the controller. Already caring about Joel and Ellie, or John Marston and the gang makes it way easier for us to get into the game. No need to have an initial connection with characters we havent met before.
There's a reason why a lot of people don't like stories being told in medias res, and what you said about the presentation of this game kinda hits the nail on the head.
Hey reed do you think you’ll follow this cod season? Even if it’s just from a fans point of view? I’d love to see your thoughts on cod and zombies maybe if it’s just casually in a stream.
This review is one of my favorite you've done Reed. I love Part 2 but I also very much agree with your views in this. Great Great job, wish u well man.
Also how come we never got a full understanding of Abby and Owens relationship? How did i thappen, how did they fall off, how did he meet Mel? They like literally never covered that.
Though I don't agree with all of the negatives you took away from the game, I applaud you for being so in depth Reed. Civility is hard to find when discussing this game online, so I'm super glad to find someone just being honest and clear. Thanks again my man, have a good one!
Yikes I wish I’d proof read my question! (My username was SonRedRyan)That was some of the worst English I’ve ever put into text! Thanks for answering the question anyhow Reed this was a great listen
I feel like a few of the issues don't apply for myself with regards to the bad decisions in the sense that I distance myself from ellie and don't feel as though I am ellie. But ,aybe that's just a difference in the perspectives we have on games we play as a whole. Good vid though.
I'm glad Ellie did not kill Abby. I was tired of all the killing man. They both ended up beating the ever lasting SHIT out of each other (although Abby was obviously malnourished by the end), but still it wasn't going to fix anything imo.
There was a lot in this game that made me turn away from it and just simply not play it anymore but I do appreciate and taken into consideration what you said here
This is imo going to be one of the most polorizing games in a long time. The only thing imo that stops it from being a great game is that it is a part 2 of a game that we loved. Killing the main character was wild esp so soon. But gameplay wise it was really good
Ngl I'm less excited for zombies this year cus my boy won't be here with Milo making the theory/ story videos this year feels like the zombies community has a void missing. All the best to reed and his new endeavours. We gonna miss you bro x
great video, i wanted to buy last of us 2 when it came out then i saw skill ups review and just thought like can i justify spending £60 to feel miserable for 30 hours so i passed, this video gave me much more insight to the game without having to actually play it
Heres my take on the ending of TLOU2 Everyone played mw2 right? Remember the hate for Shepard after he killed ghost and Roach? Now imagine its the final mission, Soap pulls out the knife and throws it into Shepards chest instead. Price then goes for Shepards gun and prepares to kill him, but he doesn't. Later he even tells Nikolai to give Shepard a ride back to his camp. That would be shit wouldnt it? Now if only at the end of TLOU2 we'd get to kill xXGolf_loverXx then everything would be fine Aslo is she was willing to kill Joel after saving her life then whats stopping her from going after Ellie later on?
Hey Reed I know you have a ton of problems with the writing of this story beyond the structural aspects. But I can imagine this becoming a more interesting story, if they made this game mostly about Abby. It may be best to not directly reference the fireflies or Joel. It would pick up after she killed Joel but the view wouldn't be explicitly told that. Abby's main concern throughout the game would be struggling to restore this idea of the fireflies, which for her would be a selfless heroic group, like the rebels in star wars. And you could have this internal battle between this idealism that she cherishes and the grim reality that is the last of us. You could have a similar note grief and revenge as she would still be trying to move on from the death of her father, and indirect reflection on her revenge quest. It would almost be a thematic contrast to the game we got, instead of delving into the darkness of revenge, its deal more with the complications of blind idealism.during During all of this you can have Ellie going on her quest for revenge acting as one of the forces of reality that is working against her ideal. Eventually it would lead back to a boss fight with Ellie, where the player will come to face with a favourite character who they barely recognize. I think this would make you more willing to fight ellie, while still refraining from killing her. And that's where I would end part 2. You could then return to ellie in DLC or part 3. Once again this is just the big picture stuff, there is a lot of other problems with writing, and you would have to change Abby character a little bit. But I think this would cover more interesting themes and build an even sided conflict
Reed Austin Right, I should have clarified. Atmos isn't supported for games on PS4. There are Atmos games on Xbox like Battlefront 2, Assassin's Creed, etc, however the PS4 versions have no Atmos.

Reed I think it would've been better if I was given the choice to Torture Nora Given the choice To kill Abby or Let her go given the choice to continue to peruse Abby. I don't feel like I had control playing this game. Joel's Death left me Blood thirsty to Kill Abby and while I was unable to sympathies with Abby after killing and Killing her friends Then forced to play her for 10 hours I did not care nor felt they properly made her well. The marketing also made me want to play as joel more but was false marketing. In the End I felt if they wanted Abby to feel more understanding We should not have watched joel be killed by Abby then later see her backstory and reason. We have a whole game dedicated to Joel and Ellie Seeing Abby kill our Mc Thats gonna be a double edge sword that left me disappointed. The manipulation of trying to make Abby as Empathy as can be doesn't work its forced. I really felt like I was left with a product that failed to do what they wanted.
