Actually, "The Wild" was in production BEFORE "Madagascar", just released later. Apparently, DreamWorks heard about it and decided to use it for their own movie, then rush it into production so they could get it out first. I still like the "Madagascar" movies, though, and I can't blame people for thinking of "The Wild" as a ripoff of "Madagascar".

_Most_ animals can eat meat. Plants are actually harder to digest.
The animals that are herbivores are moreso out of not wanting to hunt than out of not being able to digest meat. In fact, given the chance deer tend to eat birds and sheep have been known to stomp and eat mice.

***** None that I've heard of specifically when the subject is actually discussed, I mainly said "most" to cover the possibility of a small number I haven't heard of yet to which the generality does not apply.
There might also be some parasites that attack plants which some people could argue to be animal and which can't be sustained by animal hosts, but I'm not sure how people would count the possibility of such things.

You're praising the almost realistic animation and designs but in my opinion they look very unpleasant and out of place. When watching this I always had a feeling that in fact I'm seeing a live action movie with bad CGI animal characters even though it is a fully animated film and I knew it from the beginning. The "humor" of this movie adds to this - it's just like all those bad live-action-with-CGI movies... Yeah, I really don't like it.
But everyone has their own tastes and opinion, I won't argue or anything.

I hate when people makes it sound like something must be either serious and dark all the time or silly and funny all the time.
Movies, TV shows and other stuff can both have lots of crazy and very funny comedy and can also have a serious story with many dark and emotional moments.

I do love the movie Madagascar, however I don't think this is exactly like it. The Wild: Samson and his friends must go find Ryan, his son, who accidentally gets shipped to the jungle, they go to the jungle, have an adventure trying to find him, then go home.
Madagascar: Alex, Melvin and Gloria try to stop Marty from leaving the zoo, they all get caught and are sent to Madagascar, realize their wild nature and that they're animals not people, then they go back home

In elementary school we had a reward system if you made all A's and B's during the midterm you got to go see and see a movie. This was one of those movies and it was BORING. NOBODY LIKED IT. Half the kids were in the theaters arcade (which only had three games so that gives off how much this movie sucked) and if you didn't have the money (like me) then you had two choices. Suffer or sleep. And in elementary school something had to be bad to put you to sleep. And this was one of those cases.

I feel sorry for Koalas, going extinct, they're much friendlier than emus or kangaroos so they should be on the national emblem instead, but with all the shit they cop, getting poisoned and deforestation; well they can't even get proper representation in an animated film.

I remember this movie. I even have it on DVD. I... didn't really know what to make of it.
I just kept thinking it would have been better if there had been a lion native to the area who also had been separated from their pride, following in meeting Ryan. If course, this would cause them to teach Ryan what it meant to actually be a lion from the wild.
... well, crap, now I want to see that happened. Who's with me on this?

    My scores
Story: 4/10 (copies many other movies, feels dark and mean spirited)
Animation: 5/10 (there's nothing about it that looks interesting at all. The realistic design does not work for this film and the character animation has no energy)

      My scores here were:
      Story: 6/10
Animation: 8.5/10(I loved this even though it's too realistic for a movie like this)
      Characters: 7.2/10
Soundtracks: 9.2/10(I loved this one is because it was fitting for a jungely music like tone)
Animals: 8.5/10(some animals that were in the film wouldn't even appeared at the time)
      Setting: 5.5/10
Overall: 8.5/10(good enough as I said this so please do't be mad at me)
      NOTE:
If everyone says that it's already a bad movie, then SCREW THE HATERS and I'll have to do a movie review all by myself. Seriously, there are a lot of comparisons that they had at the time. But if this was even a success, then time will be shifted. It's ok that you can love both Madagascar and also The Wild, but only with empathy if you loved animals.

I strongly disagree with you on The Wild and I respect your opinion this movie.
This is one of the worst Disney movies I’ve ever seen right up there with Chicken Little and Home on the Range.
I absolutely hated this movie and Madagascar, Dinosaur 2000 and Meet the Robinsons were a thousand times better than The Wild.

I think when someone asks for Madagascar (or its sequels) and they get this, it reminds me of people asking for the American Godzilla or Godzilla 2000 and getting 2001 Yonggary AKA Reptilian.

I noticed something while watching the movie. for the first 10 minutes of the film, the lions have genitals, but after that they don't; as if some animator got punished for his decision to add genitalia to the lions, so they fired him before he could finish the rest of the film. we have to get matpat on this

The wild is not made by Walt Disney animation studios, but it was made by some company called CORE feature animation.

Yes Ducktales the movie is really, really good! I whould´t mind some behind the scenes to what ideas they might have had for future Ducktales movies that never got to work. To bad I think it is a Disney Classic way above any of the Disney sequels that studio started to make later.

I agree with Animat that there is an equal amount of comedy and darkness in The Wild, but none of it was enough to make me happy. The darkness was way too cruel for me, and although some of the comedy was clever, there were too many butt jokes for my tastes. It does not help that the animation was too realistic, and not cartoony enough for me to like it. The only part that I found interesting was Greg Cipes's performance as Ryan. Although I wish Ryan could have had a real child actor, I will have to say it felt amusing to hear Beast Boy and Kevin Levin coming out of Ryan's mouth. Ultimately, I am yet another person who would prefer Madagascar over this movie.

I know most animals can eat meat but it can make an animal sick if it eats something new that it's not used to. though plants can be harder to digest..
