Thanks for watching - please subscribe!
Now that you've found a crossbow, you can throw away your old slingshot.
But it’s ICONIC!!!
Or maybe just a annoying electric kazoo 😂
Always have a backup 😂 he needs an ankle holster
WHAT A WAY TO START A VIDEO
He's a genius.
Thanks for playing my favourite damned song. I’ve had a crap day and that really cheered me up.
Anthrax, sound of white noise was brilliant
Probably one of their best 🤘🏻
I wonder if Charles Beartooth is gonna try this out
Davie would be a good choice too
I want you to give it to Les Claypool and watch him GO NUTS with it!!!
I have made an instrument that's kinda like this but with a banjo buddy and I play it with a bow
And I have always wanted to here Les play it
@@FoxxoFox Oh yeah!!! Les would LOVE that!! TWANG!!!!!!!!!
His double thumb plus bendies, lawd jeebus
oh, you beat me to it.
Cheers for the shoutout bud! In hindsight sending you the shirt with a swear word on the front and our name on the back was probably poor self promo, we truly are dipsticks…
This thing was practically MADE to play "Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed.
Indeed. But could both parts be played at once? I guess bend one string up while returning a pre-bent string to pitch.
@@ArchieOnEarth Nah he'd have to double track it like the original recording.
Any Primus song would be suitable for that bending note bass. For example "My name is mud"
Great Scott imitation 😂
Play some eastern style riffs on it. Use one or two strings as a drone and then one or two others to play a riff over the top of it.
(A bit like what some of the better nu-metal bassists do...hello System of a Down)
It seems kind of similar to the Japanese KOTO instrument, so I suggest trying on some finger picks and seeing if anything koto-esque springs to mind... I think there was a youtuber who did rock covers on a koto, so... look for ideas and inspirations there?
Was gonna say it's essentially a bass koto, could probably get some sitar-esque sounds as well.
Would have some interesting applications in a prog rock band.
I really appreciate the transition out of the intro into the music showcase, small detail but feels very professional. Love to see you improving your already great craft!
I admit that the highlight for _me_ in this video was the The Damned segment with the cool Yamaha SG in it 😁
Thats one saucy Behs, id love to hear the bassline to Too Sweet - Hozier on it
The control needed to stay on pitch when there's so much variation available is impressive, it vaguely reminds me of that metal band in the 80s that used a chainsaw as an instrument.
That was Jackyl and I believe they used something to alter the pitch of that chainsaw to make it into a solo
Your work on this really shows!
I’d love to see him possibly try harmonics on there, bends harmonics sounds super fun
It's crazy I just learned of the existence of these last night, and this morning, Danny posts a video about them "twilightzone intro"
Great vid Danny! New fear unlocked of strange goblins sneaking around dealing out justice with powerful slingshots.
Thank you. Good luck with that. I'll be interested in hearing what you come up with.
You actually look human sized behind that tiny drumkit
She's Lost Control and Atmosphere by Joy Division.
I really think the mindbender would sound a lot better if covered in whipped cream.
I'll run from the slingshot now.
Danny you impress me so much with your imagination and creativity.
WOW! That's a game changer! I was looking at the body and wondered if those were rollers. It sounds like a slide guitar, but a BEHS! Brilliant!
Love your blues rock!!
I find myself perking up when I see my daily recommendation of Danny Sapko. It really is a great way to start the day.
Always fun! Thanks DANNY
With great power come's great responsibility 🤘
Amazing Grace comes immediately to mind. U2: With or Without You maybe. Audioslave: Like A Stone. And...yeah, Cliffs of Dover (EJ). That's enough to get you started.
Superb!! Proper Paul Gray style . This is the stuff ! This is what we want .
I wouldn't mind hearing how, XTC - Helicopter, sounds on that
You have to be one of the best finds on YT lately Danny, I love your content, and BEHS playing
Tool - Schizm on that bass would be sick
I’d like to hear attempts at any of the following songs on that behs:
Love Cats or Let’s Go To Bed -The Cure
Paradigm Shift -Liquid Tension Experiment
Heart Shaped Box -Nirvana
When I’m Cleaning Windows-George Formby
Amazing instrument!!
Some more simple fretless lines might sound cool, the intro to Pink Floyd's Hey You for example.
Don't worry the person who hit Scott's Bass Lessons was not oily. Wasn't Danny Sapko
3:00 love those speakers - very 60s sci-fi 👽
The guy from Lightning Bolt would really wail on that funny bendy bass

Nice to hear Wait for the Blackout! You could do an entire series on Behs players who have been in The Damned. Captain Sensible was superb but often gets overlooked because of his chessey pop career and move to lead guitar but they had the outstanding Paul Gray (back in the band at the moment), Algy Ward (RIP), Bryn Merrick (who thumped them through much of their Goth revival period, RIP), Lemmy (RIP again) did a brief stint with them and the lovely Patricia Morrison also featured. Such Behs talent!
Pigs (Three Different Ones) immediately came to mind. Mostly for the intro part. DO EEEETTTT!!!!
Please Danny consider doing more videos like this that are longer than shorts
Someday I'll put together a compilation of all the times Danny Sapko shit on Scott's Bass Lessons. Just waiting on more golden content.
Other instruments played (in part) by changing tension of a fixed length string:
Pedal steel
Guitar with B-bender or similar
Koto
It occurs to me that this is actually very much like a minimized koto.
STUDIO TOUR PLZ
I could see Sleep/Electric Wizard style licks sounding killer on that thing!
The Roy Budd theme from Get Carter would sound interesting, or Herbie Flowers masterpiece Walk on the wild side. Or the Members Sound of the Suburbs.
The Members!!
Good call mate!!
Always great seeing you play the Rickenbacker, but that mindbender looks like fun.
Having a crack at some fretless basslines might be fun!
Dazed & Confused, or any other song on Zep's 1st album! Crazy instrument. May lend itself to sitar like music as well.
Norwegian Wood or Within You Without You perhaps?
I think it would lend itself really well to something that was originally played on a fretless. Maybe Sledgehammer or The Boy in the Bubble or the solo from Hey You. Possibly some Jaco.
I freakin' love it!!!!! "London Calling" would be an excellent candidate...
Dude!! That's wild!!!
Orion Bass Solo. Seems like it might actually work for it.
I vote for Lemmy's bass solo from 'Orgone Accumulator' (Hawkwind). Good luck 😛
Good call! Love that tune
I used to live near blindworm studios, these instruments are fascinating, whole concept is interesting, never tried to play one though
Saucerful of Secrets, the bass and guitar parts
A lovely renditions of wait for the blackout, 🔥. Also a little bit of turkey in the straw is always welcome, 😂.
I think that 'I just can't be happy today', by The Damned would sit well with it,🤔.
Like deployed 👍
😎🎙🎸✅️
My ex-husband said his dad would go to a swanky restaurant, get about half lit, then yell out to the musicians "Can you play Turkey In the Straw?" It embarrassed his poor wife to death. 😂
That's cool. Now play it with an Ebow 😎
Can you play chords on it… is the first thing that springs to my mind.
If you can, you could do an overtones thing as you’re hitting them… could be quite church organy or creepy depending on what you’re going for.
Would love to hear some horror punkest sounding stuff @weedfreer what you think about that?
Seems highly suited to early Glam Pop ie Bolan and (are we even allowed to mention?) Glitter?
How about playing the bass parts on Rush's '82 hit 'New World Man', which out rocks, out reggaes, and out punks the Police (at least speed-wise). Geddy's playing is quite melodic as well as being really nimble. A timeless track it is!
Joel
This thing was made for psych!!
Benny Hill theme on Mindbender?
I love this and want one. I'd like to see you perform Iron Maiden's Phantom of the Opera on it.
i've stared at danny's face for so long i remember his face better than my own
How about "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" from The Beatles? A crazy thing, like the Mindbender, looks perfect for a trippy bass line, like that. BTW, if those are nylon strings, what do the pick ups do?
Do a Hendrix at Monterrey Pop Festival with it. 🔥
Peter Gabriel's 80s tunes and Megadeths early 90s stuff all used a fretless bass, so anything from that should work for that instrument.
That's VERY reminiscent of the "tub-a-thumps" we used to make out of an 18 litre/5 gallon bucket, a stick screwed to the side of inverted bucket and stout twine attached to the top of the stick and the middle of the pail bottom. It was played in a similar manner as you've shown. Not nearly as sophisticated as the modern version, but it played, and that's what matters eh? Oh, I'll not mention how long ago that was, but your parents may not have been born yet.
Some Clash stuff would sound great on this.
The Damned. One of my favorite bands ever. thanks for that.
That's really different. It kind of reminds me of one of the crazy instruments that Korean lady in the Henry Kaiser videos plays. But this sounds better
dude you're genuinely so funny
Please try Down in the Tube Station on it. Btw, great Damned cover. Love the drumming Stuart Copeland stylee!
I'll second the Foxton behs plea!
You could actually try Billy Sheehan and Mr. Big "Addicted to that rush" on your mindbender and get your mind blown at the same time.
Nice guitar for a Behss man
A soul or R&B cover of the Fat Albert theme song....
Bluegrass could be cool with it.
It’s very off the wall and not the typical fare for this channel, but I really want to hear the bass line from Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction played on that thing.
This bass looks and sounds straight lifted out of an episode of Spongebob squarepants...
Pink Panther
PS: Video well done Sir!
Again, PS: Can you use the slide for one of your slide riffs on that wild bass?
Pink Panther, or your Benny Hill rendition
Sledgehammer by Petter Gabriel, bass player Tony Leven.
I bet walking bass lines could be wild on it. But, you must slap it.
imagining how to play this behs just fries my brain
If claypool gets his hands on one, it will be a best seller.
Actually, some primus-esque lines might suit it
Play "Dune Buggy" by The Presidents of the United States of America 🤘🤘
Do the Led Zeppelin "Black Dog" pass line!
Looks like it’s time for some Primus covers!
I’m contemplating to pick up bass again-ish. I’m a drummer. To the point I’ve been to uni twice. For me “college” twice. I love my drummin craft. But you made me want to at least music again. Rehtheem. till death do us part.
A bloody good shot 'twas too mate! 🍻
Please do Some bendy microtonal stuff, that's the occasion
Not only one of Earths greatest bass players, but also funnier than 99% of the comedians alive today...
My dream come true !
Let's wait for the blackout the light here is to brigth !
some extreme metal would probably go crazy on that
I need some Archspire played on this
Damn that's funny!
I do love SBL too.
Because I know you love Prog:
1. Thela Hun Ginjeet - King Crimson
2. Tempus Fugit - Yes
