I’m so glad I decided to binge this game series after years of only owning KH2 and Days. It’s really culminating in a way I never expected. What a ride!
Im with you on switching mains Pat. I main zelda currently but ive been saying since Smash 4 that if Sora ever got in I would switch in a heartbeat. I am SO hyped for his release. I seriously almost cried as soon as Simple and Clean started playing.

@@DexterousRed yeah, but the attacks are all KH1 attacks, some appear in other games as well, but they all originated in KH1. I love the alts though, I'm torn between 1, 2, and TR.

I just had a bunch of people in a Discord server basically being super rude about the idea of Sora being in Smash last night. I find this turn of events highly amusing.
I'm kinda glad they kept him simple by basing him off KH1 Sora, it would have been a little much to see him bouncing off the walls with flowmotion and juggling multiple forms and keyblades
You could build a successful integrated moveset for sure, but it was not a bad call to keep it KH1. I think Ripple Drive or something would have been a way cooler down b than the counter tho.

Me and my friends were hype that Sora got in at all, even if it wasn't our favorite version of him, but you got your favorite version of him and your favorite Kingdom Hearts world to boot. Worth noting that Robin and Byleth can both marry into monarchies in a couple ways, but aren’t monarchs themselves by default (IIRC). Also, Terry is the King of Fighters. Does that count?

I have a friend who made a bet that if Sora was added to Smash, he would play all the Kingdom Hearts games, but decided on his own to move the goalposts and start when Sephiroth was added But now that he actually has lost that bet, time to bully
I'm hopiiiing that the pre KH3 stuff will do fine via cloud since they aren't too demanding, but KH3 is gonna be basically unplayable. Switch's remote play stuff is like, not great.
@@PikminandOatchi not my point. My internet is plenty to run them fine. It just isn't optimal compared to actual cartridges or as a digital releases. The switch is also a console to be taken away from home, where good wi-fi is much harder or impossible to obtain. Also i've already played all of the games so i'm just speaking on behalf of people who haven't.

Not to mention that in most places on Earth getting fast internet is literally impossible because the infrastructure doesn't exist. There are 3 people I needed to know their reactions. Everglow, Regular Pat, and SuperButterBuns. My brother called at 7:00 in the morning and told me it was him. Sora. He got it. I got my vote from 6 years ago. And the actual moveset is very close to my fanmade moveset. And yes, there is no better way to put it than “BEST CASE SCENARIO.”

Don't get me wrong Sora was the one I wanted for this last slot, but a new pokemon wouldn't be that disappointing (it would still be but not that much)
Pokémon is the one series I love to see a lot of because they all have different move sets and designs. I will say though the game is currently stacked with them though and I’d take franchise variety over them.
Pokemon already has a solid roster in Smash, as well as a fighting game, and a MOBA, they have plenty of places to shine outside of Smash that wouldn't come at the expense of franchise diversity

It would've been Byleth all over again. I'm a massive fan of both Pokémon and Fire Emblem but the timing for Byleth was very wrong and the timing for a new Pokémon rep as the final character would've equally been as wrong.
I was watching this at 7am live, sitting on my toilet, totally unexpecting Sora. It literally wasn't on my mind, but when that keyblade showed, with the mickey symbol I screamed at the top of my lungs "NO FUCKING WAY" I don't know if a reveal has ever made me forget where I was before. especially while on the toilet. I was one of those people that always wanted Sora but felt like he never had a chance because of the ties with Disney. What a great day it was to be wrong and get a noise complaint from my neighbors.
When I went to sleep today, I will think of this like "Wait, so now I will be able to play Sora in real Smash? No tricks? Is it that simple". As you said, as if it were something that I would have never expected to see with my bare eyes, as if I really had to think "this is not a fan-made mode. Sora is actually a new character." Fun fact: I don't even own a Switch, but I said to my friends "I'll buy one the day I could play as Sora in Smash." Not only that, but also all the other games... What a dream, I feel so lucky to come and feel happy with other people.
Based on his KH1 outfit, I'm guessing this is where he went when he either went to the realm of sleep like what his dreams are just like ventus' dreams when he slept over a year between KH:CoM & KH2... NOMURAAAA~!!!

I was teaching today and one of my 6th grade students who is usually a complete troll smugly told me “sora got announced for smash”. I shrugged it off and started class, at the end I checked my phone and my Fiancé (who I just played through the whole kh series with this year) had sent me the trailer. Un fucking real!
I will forever shout that the reason we got Valor and Wisdom is less to say they needed a “red and blue” outfit and more “this is our way of putting Donald and Goofy in the game,” since the INKY way to use those forms IS with their respective character.
I'm not sure what would have been a more fitting final character. It had to be either this, or Waluigi. And personally, I like this a lot more. We all fought for so long.
I hope Pat does a breakdown of the trailer and how Sora had awakened the hearts of the Smash cast while they’re trophies (which is worse than death if we go by Brawl storyline.)
I personally would have preferred older, more powerful Sora. They not only chose the weakest, most boring Sora they omitted several of his most moves like Strike Raid, Ragnarok, Ars, Zantetsu, that Proximity Breaker move etc. KH3 Sora would have been fucking wild
I think I overall prefer SSF2 Sora's moveset, it's more of an integrated thing. But with Smash having so few moves and with Sora having like a shit billion abilities, they could never really hope to do anything close to comprehensive. Narrowing it to mostly KH1 stuff was a good move logistically I think. I also love that they just wholesale pilfered SSF2's magic command cycling move, that's very funny to me.
Not gonna lie, I thought of a better KH Representative just a few days before this release (when Sora in Smash was barely a twinkle at that point) Master Xehanort. I mean, he has move variety, personality, presence, and can help to even out the Hero/Villain ratio on the roster. Hell, one of his specials can be the infamous Ven-sicle where he crushes an enemy's head and freezes them solid. It could totally be like this for a lot of people: "... Who's this old man? Why's he-- oh god, he just grabbed Bayonetta's hea-- WHAT THE FU--"
They've taken such good care of him. I'm not a Smash person, but the detail and thought they put in is astounding. I love that they primarily focused on KH1 Sora, he's the little boy we all remember going on adventures with. : ) Maybe I'll play Smash now.
So if Sora returns in the next Smash, how do you think other characters should be brought in? Should Roxas be the Echo Fighter, or should Riku? Should Aqua be the Assist Trophy or what?

Don't get me wrong Sora was the one I wanted for this last slot, but a new pokemon wouldn't be that disappointing (it would still be but not that much)
Pokémon is the one series I love to see a lot of because they all have different move sets and designs. I will say though the game is currently stacked with them though and I’d take franchise variety over them.
Pokemon already has a solid roster in Smash, as well as a fighting game, and a MOBA, they have plenty of places to shine outside of Smash that wouldn't come at the expense of franchise diversity
I mean like, I just can’t think of literally one good reason for ending off this 3 year long dlc cycle with a character from an already represented series lol like sure for those who LOVE pokemon it’d be exciting but it wouldn’t really excite the masses or do any justice to fan demand/polls
Idk I'm a huge Pokémon fan but I would have felt let down by that. Unless it was something REALLY out of left field like Cynthia or Giovanni or something. You know, a human character.
It would've been Byleth all over again. I'm a massive fan of both Pokémon and Fire Emblem but the timing for Byleth was very wrong and the timing for a new Pokémon rep as the final character would've equally been as wrong.

It literally wasn't on my mind, but when that keyblade showed, with the mickey symbol I screamed at the top of my lungs "NO FUCKING WAY" I don't know if a reveal has ever made me forget where I was before. especially while on the toilet. Im sorry to my neighbors lol

I was one of those people that always wanted Sora but felt like he never had a chance because of the ties with Disney. What a great day it was to be wrong and get a noise complaint from my neighbors.
When I went to sleep today, I will think of this like "Wait, so now I will be able to play Sora in real Smash? No tricks? Is it that simple". As you said, as if it were something that I would have never expected to see with my bare eyes, as if I really had to think "this is not a fan-made mode. Sora is actually a new character."
Fun fact: I don't even own a Switch, but I said to my friends "I'll buy one the day I could play as Sora in Smash." Not only that, but also all the other games...

I was teaching today and one of my 6th grade students who is usually a complete troll smugly told me “sora got announced for smash”. I shrugged it off and started class, at the end I checked my phone and my Fiancé (who I just played through the whole kh series with this year) had sent me the trailer. Un fucking real!
I do wish some of the alt costumes had been alt characters. A roxas & a xion costume would have been great.

I personally would have preferred older, more powerful Sora. They not only chose the weakest, most boring Sora they omitted several of his most moves like Strike Raid, Ragnarok, Ars, Zantetsu, that Proximity Breaker move etc. KH3 Sora would have been fucking wild
I think I overall prefer SSF2 Sora's moveset, it's more of an integrated thing. But with Smash having so few moves and with Sora having like a shit billion abilities, they could never really hope to do anything close to comprehensive. Narrowing it to mostly KH1 stuff was a good move logistically I think. I also love that they just wholesale pilfered SSF2's magic command cycling move, that's very funny to me.
Not gonna lie, I thought of a better KH Representative just a few days before this release (when Sora in Smash was barely a twinkle at that point)

I mean, he has move variety, personality, presence, and can help to even out the Hero/Villain ratio on the roster. Hell, one of his specials can be the infamous Ven-sicle where he crushes an enemy's head and freezes them solid.

They've taken such good care of him. I'm not a Smash person, but the detail and thought they put in is astounding. I love that they primarily focused on KH1 Sora, he's the little boy we all remember going on adventures with. : ) Maybe I'll play Smash now.
So if Sora returns in the next Smash, how do you think other characters should be brought in? Should Roxas be the Echo Fighter, or should Riku? Should Aqua be the Assist Trophy or what?
