But never giving up on their dream for humanity, the pursuit of freedom, and the truth of this world, thats why i have so much respect for the Survey Corps. So when the wings of freedom spread, and they offer they hearts for this distant dream, my heart goes along with them. also, Levi's so cute, he's so cool, whaaat- sorry lmao

I'll say this now, as it is only mentioned in the manga and is not story related. Levi used to really love drinking tea with his mom, and it is relevant to how he holds his teacups. As a kid, Levi saved up a lot of money to get a teacup and some tea to go with it. The first time he ever drank tea after his mother passed, he thought about her memory. Unfortunately, the moment was ruined as the handle of his teacup came off, and the cup shattered on the ground. That is why Levi is always seen holding teacups from the rim in the show.

33:47 Oh my days, I'm so glad RUclips has recommended me your channel, your analysis is absolutely amazing. It'll be very interesting to see if you'll understand immediately the thing about his name in the 3rd season (I know you've almost finished it, so it's not a spoiler), because no one does. After your thoughts, I can't watch other channels because they seem be so not paying attention to the show compared to you.
You are so incredibly sweet! Thank you!! I did believe in 3 x 2 that the connection was to Mikasa's mother due to the similarity in features. By 3 x 6 [which is where I left off] I am fully aware of how he's connected to Mikasa and Kenny but I'll not spoil that reaction and analysis :P
This comment holds no spoilers, but is also no admission of affection or a love letter. I will be using the word love in my comment. I love people like you. Not just because you are analytical and perceptive, but also because you are so emotionally tied to the material. The story and the characters move you, regardless of your logical mind. You are in the moment when the moment requires it of you, but you are always looking ahead. I find it both inspiring and a good trait of yours. I am really enjoying your content on Attack on Titan.
Quibbs that is so incredibly kind and lovely of you!! I have screenshot this to put in my folder where I doubt my content and ability to react or just for when I need cheering up. Thank you for appreciating what I do even though I am not the most hype reactor - no one can ever say I don't emotionally invest myself in the series!
33:46 Naa His name is Levi, just Levi. He is much more than just an elite captain. In a world ravaged by the Titans, he embodies a rare strength: discipline in the face of the absurd. His self-control, sense of duty, and apparent detachment make him a fascinating figure. But behind this cold facade, Levi poses an essential question: how does one remain human in a world that has lost all meaning? Levi seems to live according to Stoic philosophy. For him, suffering and loss are certainties; what matters is our reaction to them. Marcus Aurelius said: "A man's life is what his thoughts make of it." Levi chooses to move forward, even when everything collapses, and to protect what remains, despite the sacrifices. But is Levi truly a model of resilience, or simply a broken man who survives out of habit? Is his coldness in the face of death not a shield against unbearable pain? This is where the depth of his character lies: he is neither a perfect hero nor an insensible man. He is the symbol of an unrelenting struggle against chaos that cannot be defeated. 1:00:50 "he is sooo powerful" Attack on Titan is a show where even the strongest soldier is just strong enough to just save himslelf... 1:09:38 not only he did it single handedly but he made sure the thing would suffer as much as possible, cuz he could have done a oneshot kill but he didn't. Even after watching every episodes and OVA maybe like 20 times, I still tear up every now and then. I named my son after him!
One of my favorite random fun facts is Something Isayama revealed at some point (in an interview I think?) He explained why Levi drinks his tea the way he does (by holding the cup instead of the handle). When he lived in the underground he couldn't afford much but once he managed to save up to buy a cup, and the first time he was holding it, the handle broke. And now he drinks by holding it the way he does. So his way of drinking now is caused by the habit of drinking from the broken cup and I guess a bit of paranoia from other cups possibly breaking on him.
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts there is an ova that explains it, but only as a manga. If you want to know you could read it after season 3. It's called "Bad boy".
About birds, if there is some symbolism, one of the songs on the soundtrack is VOGEL IM KAFIG (bird in a cage), you have undoubtedly heard it a lot. You can delight yourself with Hiroyuki Sawano's Attack on TITAN Suite ruclips.net/video/a6Fl1Xl1ogg/видео.htmlsi=8hW9qRqw1_rnAl0T
Another marvelous reaction, commentary and analysis, so nothing new here. Sorry for my question not being related to this particular OVA, but what about Gigguk's "AoT in 9 minutes"? Have you watched it? If so, will you post is here on RUclips or will it be Patreon/Member exclusive?
I haven't watched it because I'm too invested in the show at the moment and would rather not divert away from it. I'll maybe get to it when I've finished but it depends really as I've a lot of content I want to do. I also worry that the humour may not necessarily hit me at my big old age? So it might make for a disappointing react if I don't find it funny haha!
Even though I started AoT way back and watched the last few seasons live, I just recently decided to watch the OVAs. The first 3-episode OVA didn't do much for me, but I thought No Regrets was excellent. I hope you keep up the reactions for the rest of the series--what a ride it shall be! Enjoy the theories and insights. Also, glad I don't wear and have to fix makeup. Would be the end of me. Lastly, just want to put a word in for another series: Katanagatari. Maybe my favorite show ever. Incredibly beautiful soundtrack, colorful and unique visuals and my favorite dialogue in any anime. It's not as known and probably wouldn't get as much traction for reaction videos, but I do think you would really enjoy it in your free time if nothing else. Cheers!
You might want to consider making the change and adopting a no makeup policy for season three and four. I'm not a girl with makeup on but I cry every time watching the show. If I can't explain it but even some of the happy scenes make me tear up. I guess Im just that attached to the characters
so some people built 3 concentric giant walls and under the innermost wall, they built an underground city. Then they put Levi in the underground city to protect the titans from him.
50:20 ok, I won't deny that it's always cool to see anime characters hold a blade like that, but realistically (☝️🤓), it's just stupidly inefficient to hold any blade like that (unless it's short and with the intention to just stab, like a dagger), when you swing it like that, you can never measure precisely the distance to your target (since the blade is behind you, not in front of your eyes), you drastically limit your reach and you waste more energy than necessary in the long run, since you're always cutting against gravity. Of course, as an audience, the anime expect us to side with Levi when he basically says "fuck you, I'll do it my way", because he's such a badass, but the instructor definitely knew his shit. But who knows, maybe in the AoT universe, the ODM gear helps solve those issues, specially gravity.
@Anna-mn5nf yeah, I guess the momentum of the ODM gear + spinning help a lot in terms of energy efficiency, I'm not sure how it would solve the issue with the blade's reach, but in any case, this is me just being a nerd about the technicalities of sword fighting, none of this should be taken that seriously when watching any piece of fictional media (unless it intends to realistically portray sword fighting and/or educate about it)
Being a nerd about sword fighting is awesome! I also spent way too much time thinking about the technical and practical aspects of ODM gear, the grappling hooks and the sword blades and how they have break points etc. It's fun to think about but it's fiction so i guess they can do what they want.
"No Regrets" was originally a visual novel written not by Attack on Titan author Hajime Isayama but by Gun Snark, a pesudonym which I'm sure has a very interesting story behind it that I don't know. It was later adapted into a manga illustrated by Hikaru Suruga. I have not been able to find any confirmation on how much Isayama was involved but the story is canon as far as I know, at least to the anime adaption. I presume that Isayama at the very least ok'd the story with regards to continuity and such. Good that you're noticing the red and blue, I remember thinking to myself "wow, look at that Death Note shot" when I saw this for the first time back in what? 2015 I think this came out? . Anyways, are you aware that the anime adaption of Attack on Titan was directed by Tetsurou Araki who also directed the anime adaption of Death Note? Certainly not the only Japanese director to make use of the red oni, blue but in this case it's kind of a bit of a signature technique of the director. One interesting thing about Isabel is that she uses the first person pronoun "ore" to refer to herself. In Japanese, there's a handful of first person pronouns and "ore" is unusual for a woman to use, it is most commonly used by masculine men (or men trying to appear masculine). You might expect women to use "watashi" to refer to themselves, or "boku" which is common among boys but not unheard of among women. The choice of first person pronoun is a bit more complicated than depending on gender of the speaker, you might for instance expect a distinguished gentleman to use "watashi", but "ore" is quite unusual for women to use. I believe Eren uses "ore" as well. Eren, Reiner, Levi and Erwin are some characters that use "ore"; Armin and Hange use "boku" I'm pretty sure" and Mikasa, Historia and most of the women in the cast use "watashi". I think Pixis might use "watashi" but I can't remember for sure. Just a little language tid bit but like you keep saying, every choice is deliberate and what pronoun a character uses can be a cultural short hand trick to communicate something about them to a Japanese audience. Something about the way Isabel's head is drawn and animated in this episode hits me in some deep primal part of my brain. I don't know how to describe it but I have never seen another drawing convey death quite the same way. There's just the sense of... I don't know, there was a life here and it's gone now, something in the way the eyes are drawn, the way a few strands of hair move with the wind, the contrast to that movement in the complete stillness of the face. I'm not particularily good at art analysis but I can tell you that the image evokes powerful emotions in me and I've been told that evoking emotion is what art is all about.
17:16 I just noticed what could be just a coincidence But titans being able to function with daylight is kinda contrasting those living trapped in the underworld and suffering as they lack contact with the sun and vitamin D deficiency
Wit Studio delivered incredible animation for these first 3 seasons, they are just top tier. But I have to say, MAPPA kicked it up a notch for season 4. 👀
Levi and his squad put Eren in the same dilemma as Levi's friends put him. His squad coerced Eren into believing in them instead of himself, and Levi admitted he didn't know the correct answer and later told Eren not to regret his choice. *EDIT* Just saw your closing speech.
Not so much Levi. The squad did. Levi told Eren to make the choice that he could live with. I would argue that Levi did stay out of it and only gave his insight that he should have no regrets with whatever decision it was that he made. It is a parallel between the two that they share a similar experience. Which is why I talk in my outro about how Levi probably sees himself in Eren hence the passing down of the same wisdom that Erwin gave to him.
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts Facts, although he does recognise something different in Eren. He calls Eren a monster and that no matter what cage you put him in he will do his own thing and make his own choices, so instead of ordering Eren as a superior he asked him to choose.

@@AlisseRhodes-x9d I got mine in Belfast! I live in Northern Ireland but my family lives near Manchester and I used to go to the University of Salford! I am on the hunt for Levi haha!!
It's a great show. Also pretty heartrending and a huge puzzle. The two red and blue Oni are sisters though, no spoiler there they are introduced rather early. So the compare and contrast aspect is an important dynamic for them from the jump.
Levi doesn't actually say "pot calling the kettle black" it's more along the lines of "did you hear the shit coming from that shit's mouth" - Levi talks like an underground thug.
Levi is the biggest softie and sentimental of the show imho. Hes just burried underneath tons of defense mechanisms to shield himself off of potential harm.
I think they all are. That haunted look on Erwin's face when they return in 1 x 22 always sits with me. After so much loss - I think they have to switch off their emotions to protect themselves as much as they can. It's heart wrenching!
33:49 If I'm not mistaken the English Dub actually spoiled Levi's last name in Season 1. The Dub has options to turn on subtitles. What's so wrong about it is that they would sometimes put the full name of the character that was speaking... 🤣😂
It doesn't on Crunchyroll? I've watched it entirely in the dub and there was never the inclusion of full names of characters in their subtitles :') It might be that way on other streaming services perhaps? But I never had anything spoiled for me thankfully.
11:52 All the tiny things I learnt about AoT from RUclips comments, she just puts out right after watching the scenes. Not Doctor of Literature for nothing!

Can you please react to the „ attack on titan in 9 min“ video , it’s a funny parody like summary of season 1 and it’s hilarious, it’s a must ( it’s on RUclips, and put subtitles on when watching)
@Anna-mn5nf Too many Spoilers, so I rather not go too deep with my answer. So to keep it short, i believe Levi is a mary sue of a character, I believe Isayama sacrificed much of the story and many characters just to appise Levi's fanboys.
I had to look up what a Mary Sue character was, and now I know, which is cool. Interesting for sure and I know he is considered OP by some. Thanks for the reply. Out of interest, do you consider Levi to have any flaws?
@@Anna-mn5nf Levi does have to watch many of his friends die, which is the one category not associated with a mary sue. Other than that, he's perfect and amazing at everything else.
I find that interesting that you consider him a mary sue Hes antisocial, a runt, kind of bad at everything except the physical act of titan killing and following orders. Hes only successful in a lot of things because of the orders he follows to be honest. Hes not likeable at all to the other characters. And its not like his skills are just unexplained. We know spoiler stuff ofc, but also since he was a kid, he had to survive in the underground. He was forced to become tough. He trained himself on ODM until it became second nature. But he makes many mistakes. Hes not the smartest tool in the shed. He needs a good commander to do what he does.
I don't think Erwin is being harsh but rather he's just emotionally numb to it all as death is just a part of being in the Survey Corps. We know that huge amounts of new recruits never make it back from their first mission beyond the walls. No doubt Erwin has witnessed his fair share of loss of friends throughout his time. He's had to harden himself too it and I believe that in such an environment sympathy could truly be your downfall because you do not have the time to mourn everyone or allow your sadness to get in the way of your duty. If we also think back to 1 x 22 - Levi is almost the same in terms of response to the death of his friends in that he steels his emotions. Yes, we know that Levi mourns them deep down, but he was also initially harsh with Dimeter when he wanted to retrieve Ivan's body only being kinder to him later on by giving him Petra's bade under the guise of it being Ivan's to help Dimeter mourn. But yeah - I don't think Erwin is being harsh because he wants to be but because it's an important teaching moment within the Survey Corps. I couldn't be that cold but then again I couldn't be in the Survey Corps to begin with haha!
Not sure if this has been made aware to you, but although appearing womanly and having a female voice actor, Hanji’s gender has not been confirmed. The writer actually goes out of his way to use gender neutral pronouns when referring to them. Just thought i’d let you know :)
@@haku-8785 I am aware but due to it not being confirmed I am allowed to still refer to Hanji as she. I interchange at times between she and they. Also with this being fiction and not something categorically confirmed - I don't think it's an issue if I and other want to refer to Hanji as she 😊

@maisabdullatif8910 That would be a spoiler so yes - you're fortunate that I've watched some of S3 already or that would have been too much information. Until you see the show confirm something to me, it's wise to not discuss it in the comment section. And the OVA does not confirm that. It's around 3 x 4. You may not have given away his last name but you still would have taken away from the theory crafting if I had seen this prior to watching. So again - best not to comment information the show hasn't revealed as of yet.

Silence everyone, my favorite show is on
33:46 Naa His name is Levi, just Levi.
Poor Levi he lost his family 😢
One of my favorite random fun facts is Something Isayama revealed at some point (in an interview I think?)
He explained why Levi drinks his tea the way he does (by holding the cup instead of the handle).
That's so cute!! Bless him - he must have been so annoyed about his cup breaking!
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts right😂
I really want to add some detail in here, but it's a bit spoiler. I guess I'll wait until she's on season 3
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts there is an ova that explains it, but only as a manga. If you want to know you could read it after season 3. It's called "Bad boy".
Fun fact, I never watched any of these until the show ended. I thought it was a fans creation.
WHAT?! Tbf if it wasn't for Patreon I probably would have missed out on them haha!
The death of Furlan and Isabel is by far my favorite death scene in this entire series. The Ova did it SO much better than the manga imo
I cannot wait to read the manga!!
Now i get it why Levi has a soft spot for Petra. She reminds him of little Isabella.
levi's VA hiroshi kamiya killed it
Even though I started AoT way back and watched the last few seasons live, I just recently decided to watch the OVAs.
I guess Im just that attached to the characters
that's why I said "don't forget about OVAs", that's my saddest moment🤧
so some people built 3 concentric giant walls and under the innermost wall, they built an underground city.
Maybe it works well with his spinning technique.
54:00 And there it is the 1st time we see levi smile 🥲
17:16 I just noticed what could be just a coincidence
But titans being able to function with daylight is kinda contrasting those living trapped in the underworld and suffering as they lack contact with the sun and vitamin D deficiency
Do you think if titans ever got down there they would stop functioning?
@@Anna-mn5nflikely yes unless we have the irregular ones in Utgard Castle
'So ist es immer' top quality song!
legit the best OVA
This hurts. I never expected this 😢 not until motion takes place anyway
Wit Studio delivered incredible animation for these first 3 seasons, they are just top tier. But I have to say, MAPPA kicked it up a notch for season 4. 👀
Yes - I remember someone saying they changed studio!
Yeah, No Regrets will rip your heart out and shove it down your throat. Definitely the toughest OVA to watch. 😭
Pretty up there with 1 x 22 in terms of emotional brutality!
Its an OVA, but imo, its the most beautiful that AoT ever got. And thats something, the whole thing is beautiful
Good stuff
season 3 is my fav of AOT and omg i have the same mikasa and eren figures as you, i just got them from waterstones also this is my most favourite ova tbh i felt really stupid having watched the whole show and never knowing their was ova's till i rewatched it with a friend. 59:52 Nasty way to go
Probably up there as one of the worst deaths
Speaking about the red and blue oni, you might someday watch Re Zero that had a red and blue oni as characters.
Ohhh! I'll keep that in mind!!
It's a great show. Also pretty heartrending and a huge puzzle. The two red and blue Oni are sisters though, no spoiler there they are introduced rather early. So the compare and contrast aspect is an important dynamic for them from the jump.
How much trauma can one man suffer ? In Levi's case , well..
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts Yeah I think it was Funimation.

Levi lost TOO MANY people already
In season 3 many of your theories and speculations will be answered. I'm sure you're going to freak out.👍
Что ж с тобой будет тогда на третьем и четвёртом сезонах?)
Tears. Lots of them probably haha!
Can you please react to the „ attack on titan in 9 min“ video , it’s a funny parody like summary of season 1 and it’s hilarious, it’s a must ( it’s on RUclips, and put subtitles on when watching)
Im probably the only person that hates Levi with a passion, but hell i will still watch because i like sophies reactions.
It's interesting that you hate him so much, can I ask why?
I find that interesting that you consider him a mary sue
Hes antisocial, a runt, kind of bad at everything except the physical act of titan killing and following orders.
Unpopular opinion: even tho I love Erwin, I think that he was way too harsh to Levi when his friends died 😐
Also with this being fiction and not something categorically confirmed - I don't think it's an issue if I and other want to refer to Hanji as she 😊
Very good, perceptive observations.
If we reveal the last name, it would be obvious that Levi is somehow related to a certain person.
I have watched almost all of your reactions and i really REALLY would recommend reacting to anime tokyo ghoul go in BLIND it is the fun comedy show❤ it would be THE relaxing brake from attack on titan and death note :) i might subscribe if you do :0 you will have no regrets :) Love your videos
I shall add that to my list!! I do have plans in place for after AOT and Death Note so may be later this year I get to it haha!!

It's obviously Ackerman! 😂😂😂

ik this is a bit random but what is your fav AOT line or multiple, op and endings
My favourite 2 lines are from s4 so i won't say them. From s2 I have a soft spot for Eren's "I'll wrap this scarf around you....." line.
How about you?
This took place before the Fall of Shiganshina.... Erwin is a Squad Captain
I know? I'm not sure why you're mentioning that as if it's not clear or as if I didn't understand when I clearly grasped that from the get go 😂
I don't think I am spoiling any thing if I said that at this point Levi doesn't know his last name
Any info not yet given by the show is a spoiler
