The entirety of season 2 is only 24 hours, the fight with Annie ends in Sunset, the castle Utgard fight leads into dawn, and then the final fight of season 2 sunset that very day.
Funfact: I had to write an essay for school (it had to be about a non European or American book) and I bought the lost girls manga (thinking it was a novel cuz that's what Google said(my teacher said it can't be a manga) and I only realized that after it came🧍♀️ well, I still wrote about it and hoped that my teacher won't check (I got a full score‼️)
Amazing OVA I love Annie so much She really wanted to do anything to go back home which is why both times she failed at her mission you see her crying, one as a titan the second in her cocoon.
I'm so happy she's seeing the OVAs but boy do I feel teased. I've been eargery anticipating her reactions to season 3 part 1 because from early on she seemed really invested in the themes that take centre stage during that arc of the story.
3 x 1 comes out on Tuesday. It's been on Patreon 2 weeks and it'll be uploaded tonight for YT Members to have Early Access :) If I didn't do the OVA's people would complain WHY NO OVA's and I post in watch order. I watched Lost Girls prior to 3 x 1.
You can sort of figure out where they fit into the show if you look at the big number in the green background that appears in the episode title. They may not tell you exactly the date of things in the show, but they do tell you where they fit in chronologically relative to the rest of the episodes.
I know where this fits into the show :) I think it'd be near impossible to not understand. I just talk it out as I go because that's what reactors do haha! Because I know fine rightly if I don't mention knowing when this takes place - I'll have people lecturing me in the comments :')
Lost Girls is, much like No Regrets, adapted from a visual novel which is once again not written by the original author of Attack on Titan, this time written by Hiroshi Seko who is a screen writer for the anime. Once again, it's still intended as canonto the anime and written in some sort of cooperation with Hajime Isayama. I quite enjoy that the Goodbye Wall Sina chapter is a very traditional detective story. It's a curious choice in some ways but it allows for an exploration of Annie's character beyond the rather limited time we had with her in the first season. And as a detective story, I quite enjoy it. Annie's dad is one of those things for me where I recognize the actor and my brain has trouble processing because it feels wrong. It's like, I hear sweet, cheeky ol' grandpa Joseph Joestar from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure but the things he's doing and saying are all wrong. Well, because it obviously isn't Joseph, but Unshou Ishizuka's voice is just so tightly knit to that character in my mind that it feels weird to hear his voice coming from someone else. I don't know if that ever happens to anyone else, maybe I'm just weird.
Yeah - I really loved this OVA because even though it's a self-contained narrative, there's a lot of depth here showing Annie's character and giving some further understanding that there is more to her than meets the eye! That she is not this brute or bad person that some might believe. All her actions are in a way helping people. Even going as far as to spare people that have tried to kill her! She's a better person than me haha!!
Arguably Annie didn't have as close a connection to the other soldiers in the same way that Reiner did. His break was not so much due to being a soldier but coming into conflict with the hatred he's internalised towards humans/humanity and how that contradicts with his warrior ethos :)
Loved this. As usual great analysis. Annie is my favourite character after one other that I can't say yet but she was my favourite in season 1. So this is my favourite OVA and I was excited for your thoughts on it. Your reaction to this make me even more eager for your thoughts on the second half of season three. Really glad you're enjoying everything about the show.
i found out about these OVAs when i was doing my 3rd rewatch of the whole show OMG a bit late tbh, the thing is i usually forget about OVAs in animes 😭 but the lost girls ovas are really interesting and i love how it gave us more insight in Annie
@DrSophieDarlingReacts All of them are good in terms of quality, but it's just like with the OVA's you've seen, they're more character focused instead of plot focused, but that's the reason why I love them, though, I understand why some don't like them. One of the OVA's is in my top 3 of all time.
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts I hope you still post them all to youtube! Everyone may not love them, but most aot fans are defnitely interested in seeing them!
@@اميرمادراSpoiler: Even though she was raised solely as a weapon of war, she retained her humanity. Armin was right when he said, "Annie, you're actually very kind."
I love the Lost Girls OVAs! Even if they're not strictly by Isayama, it definitely builds on what we know of Annie and it's nice to see what she was thinking about before tackling the mission the next day. Even if she was traumatised by what happened to Marco, she steels her resolve after spending the day looking for Carly and looking into her relationship with her father. And of course, as always, your in-depth analysis was on point. Thank you so much for doing the OVAs as well! 🥺 There are a few OVAs that most reactors never do called "A sudden visitor" and "Distress". Not sure if there's a perfect moment to watch them, though. They were isolated stories about the squad's time as cadets if memory serves me right, but it has been a while since I've watched them 😅 just thought I would let you know since you seem to like Marco a lot. You can still see a bit of him in those 🥺✨
That's totally valid! I think Annie is a very interesting character, and that the way her morals operate make her unique. She does things that are cruel with little hesitation, but is also willing to show compassion.
Season 1 Hitch, and the version of her in this OVA, really annoy the crap out of me 😆Why does she have to needle Annie all the time? Why does she have to talk in that sing-song voice? But she gets better, fortunately. I've never really thought about the parallels between Carly and Annie, in terms of their complicated relationships with their fathers. I really liked what you said about how they both do things for their fathers against their own well-being. Thanks for your analysis!
I think we're probably made to dislike her only to have our opinion altered as we see more of her true self revealed. A bit like how I hated Jean when I first met him as I thought him arrogant and an arsehole, only for him to straight up become one of my favourite characters haha!! Yeah - I loved the parallels between them and how Annie sees a lot of herself in Carly to the extent that she's willing to take a risk by helping her get into Wall Rose!
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts when the perspective switches from eren to the rest of the 104th there also is a skip back in time. So while eren and Annie are fighting miche already died and the rest are evacuating civilians and looking for the hole. So the reiner reveal is the morning after erens fight with Annie.
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts horseback notification is slow. Titan attack happens, day. Night falls on tower. Eren and crew go to them during night. Then at dawn we get them saving Ymir Historia. Then we get the recovery. Then the BIG fight. Then 5+hrs recovery from big fight. Then evening chase after titans and subsequent victory against said titans!
None of Annie's storyline here relates to S3 unless you are implying that there's further context to Marco's death or that Carly re-appears in S3. If so please don't answer those hypothetical scenarios because spoilers. Either way - still doesn't matter as I can link things in S3 back to the OVA without issue. I trust my Patreon members and their recommendation to watch this before S3 and Part 3 before S4.
