A tough start after a not particularly great sleep on the beach and a very wet start to the morning, I had to get myself up out of my bivvy and get moving. Unfortunately there wasn't any shelter around as I was on a beach at the bottom of a Canyon. Over an hour's brisk walk ensued, before eventually I found the hamlet of Afur and some shelter outside of a Doctor's surgery. I stayed for about an hour, had some breakfast and set off with it still raining, to continue the hike.
Lots of climbing ensued, with the rain continuing, until I was high enough to be in the clouds. After a couple of hours walking across ridges I had a short descent through forest and finally at lunchtime into the village of Las Carboneras, and its busy (and only) bar/restaurant, Tesegre.
I had a massive hearty meal which was absolutely hit the spot, and when I left the rain had finally stopped! Now all that was needed was a little bit of road walking and 10km through a Canyon, mostly downhill, to the resort town of Punta del Hidalgo. I ended the video outside the lighthouse of the town, before heading to my hotel eat, drink, have a shower, dry off the bivvy and everything else that was still soaked from the morning, and finally get some sleep in an actual bed!

Well done mate, it is very difficult vlogging in that kind of weather. Nice shelter spot outside the surgery but when you're not moving and it's wet it can be quite cold as you mentioned! Restaurant Tesegre looks well worth the visit especially after a long walk - chips and beef will sort me out as well. And you look so happy at 13:14 when the sun finally came out and that view at 13:45 was worth all the effort!

Sat watching your vlog I could almost feel the lift that you got after lunch as that rain finally eased. While I quite like being in a tent with the rain falling I definitely don`t like it first thing in the morning. Packing up wet gear is not fun, and that gear is heavier when wet. The path looked to take you to some spectacular locations and it must have been frustrating to be aware of but not able to see the views. The wet path looked a bit difficult at times. Wonderful afternoon though as you were able to dry out a bit and start to enjoy the location. After a few days like you experienced that shower at the hotel must have been awesome. Have a great week wherever you are currently exploring.
Thanks Ivor! Absolutely correct about carrying wet gear. Thank goodness I wasn't camping that night too and I could dry all my stuff out. I'm camping in the UK this weekend so I'm hoping the conditions will be drier, as they will certainly be a lot colder. Take care!

I think that the bad weather still gives a nice rendering on photos or films. What we do not imagine, at the moment, we are so disappointed by the weather. I imagine that the descents could be very slippery!!! There is, I think, in this kind of bad surprises of the weather, a strong contrast with what seems to us fabulous opportunities, like shelters, a restaurant that is found at the right time. It increases the feeling of those comforting things tenfold.
I totally agree! Because of the rain in the morning I enjoyed the meal and my afternoon walk much more than I would have otherwise! 😁

It must have been nice to explore the expanses of Tenerife despite the bad weather and rain. Very diverse landscape and lush vegetation. Church of traditional architecture as well as Las Carboneras. A very nice lunch. An interesting canyon. It would be nice to see it, especially a walk by the sea. 🖐L92 Sretana & Zac😄

Man, it must be annoying to always be wet and muddy, but conflicted because the view is so atmospheric 😂 i despise having wet and cold feet 🥲 respect for going through this 😁 the rain made the trail look more lush and green. Thanks for sharing another awesome adventure Matt!

I sure it was nice to get out to the Canary Islands, away from rainy and cold UK. Oh wait, are you sure you left the UK? Beautiful canyon though. I can imagine how nice the lunch must have been. It looked very good but after the rain, cold, and hike I think moldy stale bread would have tasted good. Beautiful views, once the rain cleared. Dog sign? You didn't stop for the headless horse ride or at least that is how I interpreted what the mural was suggesting.
Hahaha well it was warmer than the UK if not drier 😂 true, as long as they heated the stale bread up in a microwave for a minute or so. A very odd mural. If it had been a headless chicken I might have thought somebody was mocking me
