  • In April 2023, I set off on my biggest adventure so far: A 1600mile long hike all across Britain from Dunnet Head in Scotland to Lizard Point in Cornwall. I'm going solo with my rescue dog Otto, (wild) camping along the way.
Come along for day 31 of our hike that saw us back on trail after a few rest days. Excitement was quickly followed by the hardest week of the hike so far: my plantar fasciitis got worse, I struggled a lot, questioned everything and had to make a very difficult decision…
    Route:
    Tyndrum-Inverarnan (12.2mi/19,6km)
I’m regular uploading new videos (though probably not always on the exact same day every week).
Please subscribe (it’s free :)) if you want to stay up to date and support my work. That would really mean a lot!
If you enjoy the videos and want to support our adventure with a treat for Otto and a coffee for me:

    ko-fi.com/elli...
My dream is to make a living out of my passion for being outdoors, hiking and creating videos that brighten your day - and your support means the world and I’m really grateful!
On our hike we also try to raise funds for the Green Forest Fund and the WWF. Feel free to support our charity if you can: www.betterplac...
    Thank you so much!

Elli, if it flares again try at the next village or town if there is a chiropractor nearby. The adjustmemts that they can do for plantar fascitis are amazing and incredibly effective. (They will prob do a spinal adjustment too).

@ellihikes well let's hope you won't need to go...but to be honest it would be good for your body in general whilst doing a thru hike like yours. Its probably surprising how much it will have been jolted/overworked/out of alignment etc let alone your foot. They're all connected so will def be advantageous. Good luck. Hang in there! You and pooch are doing great x

Ive been catching up on your videos after returning from some adventures in Scotland myself. Ive really enjoyed them and love what youve set out to do... Just so sorry to see the foot problems you have. Find a podiatrist if you can. - ive had plantir faciatus (however its spelt!) And its not fun, and takes time to heal, hence specialist advice is really worthwhile. Fingers crossed for you, i hope things improve 🤞. And what a cool dog you have! Otto is a star

Listening to you talk about the walk and the frustration of the pain and not being able to keep going, your body is with you for the rest of your life and the walk can be done another time, but I would be just like you and try and push on regardless of the pain I am feeling, I did when I did the coast to coast when I was younger. You don’t really have a time limit then keep resting until you feel better I watched you from the start including your practice walk don’t give up yet. Good Luck.

Thank you for understanding! Yes, you're totally right.... in hindsight it would have been better to stop right away instead of pushing myself.... it took some time for me to realise and accept it, but it finally hit me and I'm grateful it did 😊

Dear Elli, I do not know you , of course, but watching your videos over the course of this walk I have begun to understand your depth of feelings for this walk - and in fact for all your walks .From this understanding I have an insight, a little bit, into your frustrations now. This 71 year old woman is so inspired by your tenacity and believes in your judgement about what you should decide to do next. I wish I could say something to make you feel better. You are a true walker of the earth. You challenge yourself and inspire yourself. You challenge others and inspire others. Take very good care of yourself - you are so worth it. Maria.

I feel so for you! I had plantar fasciitis several years ago and it is very painful and aggravating. Sadly, it does take a while to heal but the good news is that it does heal and you will be as good as new. I struggled for months before I finally saw a doctor and he advised me things to do to help my feet heal. I am so hopeful that new footwear and insoles will help you. My doctor prescribed a night splint for my foot that held my foot in a flexed position, rather than letting the toes drop down. It sounds crazy (and it was a little difficult to get used to sleeping in it) but it really helped.

    • @ellihikes
      @ellihikes  Год назад +1

Thank you so much! I tried the night splint too, but it didn't do much for me (could only get a cheap one, not very well made and just uncomfortable, maybe that was the reason why it didn't work)... the stretching and exercises made the biggest difference for me!

@@ellihikes That's great news, I'm so glad new shoes have helped. Probably, no shoes are going to last a long time when you are walking a long way with a heavy pack. Maybe you should plan on another new pair of shoes on this hike in a few hundred miles?

I think you need a good walking shoe with a 2cm heel to elevate your heel and how you walk ,along with a sturdy sole with a slight turn up at the toe, i hope all goes well for you and Otto and if you have to stop the hike you can rejoin where you stopped, causing further and possible long term damage should be avoided at all costs, well that was my pennys worth of advice hope it helps.

I'm not sure if you're still out doing this, but if you are perhaps you could hire (or buy) a bicycle and do the rest via bike?? That way you could still camp and enjoy the country and give your foot a proper rest. I'm a bike packing guy so this comes naturally to me, but I'm sure you could enjoy cycling through the UK :)
