Great video I feel so bad for Jay slater. I hope he is found. I can see how much rocky the mountains are on there.

Great video that makes you want to go. I'm going to Tenerife from the 4th to the 11th of June in autonomy and I'd like to consult your itinerary which seems very good... Is it possible to find it somewhere, or could you send it to me?
I also have big fears for the water supply... Is there a map with the sources or places where we can refuel?
    Thanks in advance ;)

Great Video. I also think about Hiking on Tenerife this winter. I hiked two times on Gran Canaria. I am also really interested in your itinerary, I really like the places i see in the video. Is a tent necessary (because of wind, rain or mosquitos)? On Gran Canaria i just used a bivouac, and it was OK.

I still didn't find the time to put my itinary on wikiloc, but I will.
As for tent, I could have done it without it, no rain or mosquitos, at leat bring a bivy bag and you should be fine.

    Hi, Stephane!
    Thnx for the video!
I'm going to hike Tenerife for last two years, but difficulties with permits to visit national parks and especially camping permits stop me all the time. All the camps (paid or free) are situated in very uncomfortable manner to plan nights in them. I'm wondering if you were wild camper in Tenerife? And if so, was it ok? Did you have problems with rangers or so?
    Thank you in advance!

      Hi kotorator!
During my hike, I never slept inside a camp, I only did "wild camping" (Bivouac). It was ok, but I had to look for the right place, but I always find a nice spot. If you need place for your tent, perhaps i could give you a few, by looking on my gps, and my memory ( I can try a least).
No I didn't meet rangers, or much hikers. But It' was in winter, the days were short; and when I pitch my tent it was already night, and I wake up a litle bit before the sun. I also did the Teide summit without permit, because the 25 december you don't need one, and since the teleferico is closed, there not much people. Beware of the water, that's the real difficulties of Teneriffe.
Don't hesitated if you have any more question.

Thanks a lot Stephane! Its very kind of you and yes, I have some more questions :)
This is good knews, because i was affraid of sanctions for illegal camping. I'm going there in May so possibility to meet rangers and\or hikers is much higher. As I see it's poosible to hide your tent in woods everywhere except area around Teide - there are no woods))
How much time did it take for you to climb the Teide from the beginning (from last camp before the summit)? I dont want to spend night in crowdy and little Refugio de Altavista.
Im also always try to pitch my tent at night and staff it before the sun.
Do you have your track recorded on GPS? Maybe some good spots for camp and water? Also how did you choose trails to walk - planned in advance or just decide "in real time"? I think existing GR131 is not the the best way to walk the island.

Hiding your tent around the teide won't be a problem either, the area is big, and there a lot of big rocks. As for how long it take me to climb the teide, I'am not sure but at least 7h before portillo alto. You could pitch your tent a lot closer to the teide, but still you will have a long hike; because you have to get there before 9 am, after that you need a permit.
As for my itinary, I took time to make one before, with basecamp and google earth, and I used a gps, and print map on site. If you have basecamp (It's free and simple) I can send you my itinary, but just give me time I have to add some commentary on it. This way you will have all the place I slept, and where I find water, but It doesn't mean there are water all year, you need to look carefully on this one. And always carry a little bite more than you need, specially around the teide.
Let me known if you need my itinary, as for the map, I used this free one: www.openfietsmap.nl/downloads/atlantic
