  • Lets discuss the topic of paid DLC - In the 18 years of The Sims series, this is the first time there has ever been a DLC for a DLC and it's got the fan base outraged.
With a string of recent DLC controversies, will this be the future for paid additional content for gaming?

Pretty much all games have expansions which are parts of the
Original game idea cut to make the customer pay for what the designer intended to be part of the game

Honestly I'm not against DLC if I get a few more hours of playtime or my experience over all is enhanced. But THIS, having two almost IDENTICAL expansions released next to each other SCREAMS rip-off. They shoulda shoved all the pets stuff they made into one DLC, call it a Mega-Pack, and bump up the price of the first one by like 3-5 bucks.

Agreed! Its funny because even if they included both packs into one it still wouldn't be as much content as we got in The Sims 3 or The Sims 2. Obviously you can't include everything in a game otherwise it would take a lifetime to make so I'm not against DLC, but I don't think smaller more frequent packs with recycled content is the way to go :(

Its great to be back! It wouldn't surprise me if this was a test by EA to see how far they can take advantage of their player base.

I wonder where did that idea came from. Pressure from EA or Maxis itself? I don't know any dev from the sims but I constantly see one or another of them leaving the company, I wonder if the people there are really the sims devs or replaced people, and I wonder if the original ones would sell themselves like this. Certainly Will Wright wouldn't.

Most of DLC's to the sims 3 should be in the base game, some of them could stay as DLC's like "into the future"

If you pay for a game, you should get the whole game. If it is a free game, it is fine to put DLC or micro-transactions in it, but for a game that you paid for up-front, you should be able to get everything in the game, instead of it being add-ons that you have to pay for.

Can DLC be done right? I think it's important to expand popular games with new content but a DLC requiring a DLC to access majority of its content is crazy! What are your thoughts?

Honestly, the Sims 2 was just fine for me, the Sims 3 was already a bit greedy, but I was still fine with that, because I'm a fan. I own every single piece up to the Sims 4, I even own TS3 store because of a lot of contests, ad watching and stuff like that. But with the Sims 4 it's impossible to buy a second-hand pack, which I did do a lot with Sims 2 and 3. The fans that don't have a lot of money are simply overlooked, they aren't profitably enough, so EA doesn't care. It's quite hurtful, especially because I tried to defend the Sims 4 for a while... But when they released the base game without ghosts and pools I knew EA games would just squeeze everything out of this game that they possibly could. It's just sad how obvious it is that they only care about the money anymore...

Well yes, I understand but I feel like the sims learned there lesson and will never do it again.

They wont, since they make money off it, and if they can do that, ANYTHING goes
