  • Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained. As requested, today we’ll be exploring Baron Vladimir Harko-nen and his Great House, as featured in Frank Herberts expansive Dune universe.
    Siridar-Baron Vladimir Harko-nen, commonly known as the Baron, was the penultimate ruler of House Harko-nen , and the chief architect in the demise of Duke Leto I of House Atreides.
    He was the scion of a family and house with a history of ruthless ambition and basically the main antagonist of Herbert’s Dune saga. As the Baron of House Harko-nen, he ruled from his ancestral homeworld of Giedi Prime, exercising a tyrannical rule of exploitation and sadism over the lives of the slaves unfortunate enough to end up in the service of his House.
    A long-standing rival of House Atreides, the Baron is determined to bring about their end, with particular emphasis on seeing Duke Leto Atreides humiliated in defeat.
    His House was by far the most famous for their underhanded and sinister political tactics, gaining power by diplomatic intrigue and assassinations.
    Known for an ancient feud it maintained with Atreides of Caladan since the Battle of Corrin, the house had a reputation for ambition, malevolence, hatred and brutality.
    In this video, we are going to explore the origins of House Harko-nen, the life of Baron Vladimir and the demise of the powerful faction throughout the expansive dune universe.

    As someone who discovered Dune through the new movie, all I wanted was more Baron screen time. Whether he was in the Anti-toxic pool or when he hovers (floats?) in air, absolutely menacing.

    • @cordonez1625
      @cordonez1625 Год назад +46

      He hovers. To float you must be less dense than air. Meaning the Baron would need a humongous (like blimp) suit which would be too big. He would need to hover though “anti-gravity” technology which would only make him hover, and not immune to gravity.

    • @billcox8870
      @billcox8870 Год назад +46

      You should read the (Edit prequel) books. It explains why the baron is a floating fat man. The David Lynch movie was pretty damn good but the new movie is a lot closer to the source material.

    Strange to see that rewrite of the conception of lady jessica. All I remember from the books is that Harkonnen was into boys and that the only reason he got a daughter was "experimentation"in his youth, not a planned pregnancy on his part or rape. There was a scene where they tried to assacinate him by a needle under the skin in a boy he was going to rape. Not sure if the cousin was responsible.

    • @peterCheater

      I mean conceiving a child with a Bene Gesserit is always meant to be a loveless, practical affair. There's good reason Leo I only called Jessica his concubine and never his wife, even if he regretted it at the end.

    • @Iflie
      @Iflie Год назад +2

      @@BigMikeMcBastard Well not loveless obviously in all cases, there are at least two loving relationships there and some certainly married them but Leto was safer if people thought he could still marry into their family.
      Bene Geserit would certainly know ho to manipulate the situation to get he seed they wanted early, even if they had to use a girl that reminded Harkonnen of a young boy to do it. Which I think is far more likely than some ideal woman tempting him with her femininity like the picture suggests.

    I kind it find it frustrating that the characters in the books repeatedly explain that the reason the emperor moved against Duke Leto is that the duke had created an army equal to “and some were even better,” than the Sardukar. Yet in the movies, the fight is always depicted as one-sided.

CAN'T WAIT to see how the Atredies revenge goes when ridiculously sized sand worms drop off ENTIRE vengeance filled regiments of Paul's new Fedyken warrior forces to put the desert heat on the Harkkonnen an arrogant Sardakkaur forces
    Gotta hand it to the Butlerian Jihad Book Trilogy though. It shows the story of a SUPREME level misunderstanding that made these 2 Houses come to hate each other so much an basically pull the literal rest of the universe into it too
