Wow. I took my Merc for a service there a few months ago. The place seemed to be run by idiots. I had loads of problems when dropping of and collecting my car. When i picked it up i found the dashcam had not only been unplugged but had been thrown on the floor. Formally complained about the poor service to the manager, never got a response. Then i come across this video. My incident occurred in 2018, so nothing has changed.

They should know as mechanics that a cold engine don't like to rev high. Also driving like a dickhead is uncool. VERY uncool.

      .
They itemised the whole bill for a bumper repair..
They listed amongst a thousand other things
£6 for those plastic bags they cover your seats with.
£25 to drive the car from Customer Drop Off point to the Workshop which is about 12 meters away..
Charge for a full can of every lubricant & sealant & cleaner even If they only use a drip, a drop or a squirt...
      and the list goes on..
Some daft cunt I oranges after he parked his car behind mine at work (taxi) in the pitch black thought the boss was gonna pay the bill through insurance and that is the sort of bill they give out..
no wonder premiums are sky high..

Those like yourself that had to learn the hard way should move on stronger with that bad experience as a reminder to stay on the right path. My uncle's business got taken for a ride and he and his family were practically on the streets when he was 60. He refused to give up and by the time he was 67 he had worked his way back to a near new Jaguar and an $800k house. Good rule of thumb, record the mileage before handing the keys over, inform the staff the mileage and record it on the service notes. I would expect a mechanic to test drive a vehicle if there is steering or brake malfunctions for example so a test drive is required once fixed. Trading standards need to be informed in this case, the mechanic should be sacked.

None, its not the owner of a car that gets stick for crashing, it's the driver, mechanics are insured to drive all cars for test purposes and as much as you might not like it, high revving is often a part of that test, also if you don't want your car driven by a mechanic, don't give them the car or the keys for it and fix it yourself. Had he been sideways round every corner and roundabout id get it, but this is just a mechanic driving fast and giving some high revs and full throttle. Which doesn't damage a car and is part of testing also. Some issues happen closer to full throttle a misfire at 5000 rpm wont get found if he grannies it in 5th everywhere.. the only reason they wanted silence about it is because of the speeding and that's it

You can't micro manage your staff but you do need to be consistent and discreet everytime a vehicle leaves with a tech on board. I need my staff to know expectations from owner and myself, and zero tolerance.Reward or wrath . As a ASE Master Tech , Shop owner and owner of a S55 AMG with RennTech upgrades making 561 HP to the rear wheels . When I test drive a car I prefer if possible to have the customer with me because if the diagnoses needs a test drive then the customer can point out what he or she is trying to explain to me so we are on the same page. If the car requires a test drive with out the customer I inform them of the test drive , the original mileage is on ticket and I always record with my iPhone just for my protection in case of a accident or anything like that , as well I always do a walk around with the customer in the very beginning to point out any damage already on the car and they sign the work order stating existing damage. As well I have insurance that covers me driving their cars . My customers are very happy with this process. But if I took my car and some tech got in it feeding his face dropping crumbs everywhere and joyriding with a heavy foot ,me will get my foot up his arse.

I'm 50 and worked in the motor trade for 10 years as a rep and I still don't have a decent mechanic to go to and I've met hundreds. They talk to you like you're a fucking idiot, charge you for things they never did. One mechanic I picked my car up from last summer had left a ratchet under my bonnet bending my bonnet and making the alarm go off until I disabled the switch. I've taken my car back twice, once for breaks and once for an mot and both times he promised to do the bonnet, but no can do.. I had breaks done two years ago by another mechanic, when I returned after he'd sorted out the strange noise he said it was a clip on the callipers and tried charging me 15 quid, 'it was you fucking fault you idiot' was my response. Sorry but in my book, all mechanics are shit houses, not found a good one yet in 30 years of driving and being in the business, if you are honest, do a good job and don't take the piss, call yourself 'UNICORN MOTORS'.

    • @Jxrd99
      @Jxrd99 7 лет назад +3

Carson King Could I just ask, if you've worked in the motor trade for so long, how come you still use mechanics (besides for MOT) for simple jobs like brakes? And as for the spanner under the bonnet, should take it up with the owner or find out who owns the company if it's a branch and take it to them. Normally mechanics will offer you stuff such as a free MOT, free service, etc before offering a repair, just demand a repair/replacement of your bonnet. If they refuse, I'd honestly think about taking it to court depending on how much it'd cost to repair.

Mechanic my arse. I started my apprenticeship in the motor trade over 50 years ago. This was when a mechanic was expected to strip and rebuild engines, gearboxes and drive axles. Shit, I even had to reline brake shoes. My C&G exams required hand written answers (not a tick test) and were also graded on my use of English and my mathematical ability. Diagnostics consisted of me questioning the customer about the problem and me knowing how to do my job. Most of todays mechanics are merely "quick change artists". It's now deemed acceptable to have a "mechanic" say: "This bit is broken, but I can fit a replacement for X amount". If my dad was still alive, he would probably be called a "transparent wall service engineer", but I only knew him as a window cleaner.

About 15 years ago, I had a one off special edition imported performance car. Took it to get a timing belt change. When I came back it had been written off on a test drive. I never got what the car was worth back, and ended up around 5 grand out of pocket. The car didn't even need to be test driven. This is why you need to do your own work where possible, or get a small garage or call out guy you trust to do your work. It's cheaper, more convenient, and far less likely your car will get abused. If you must take your car into a dealer or elsewhere, let them know they are not to drive it without your presence. Insist on a ride along for any test drives they want to do.

Your car linked to the scene of a fatal accident whilst in the hands of a mechanic when you didn’t consent to them driving it...sounds like a lot of money your way when everything gets cleared up though...the brand you choose to buy your car from get you arrested and disrupt your life and cause grief for your family, not to mention harming/killing someone. It begs the question, why is more not done to stop this.

Had a 2016 Range Rover Sport. Driven nicely from home down to our local Land Rover dealer in Taunton. Taken out for lunch, then to see his mates by a fairly young mechanic, breaking speed limits and generally being unsafe. While driving he meant round the mirror to attempt to dismantle the camera but failed to do so properly and broke it. He left the car dirty inside and caused Land Rover to believe it had been stolen. Mechanics clearly can’t be trusted with our expensive cars, always feeling anxious on receiving my cars back from service.

I asked them for advice. Hour later i returned and they said you have 3 options, 1) replace the box, 2) we can supply rebuild box or 3 buy a 2nd hand box and replace which they said was cheapest option. He then added oh by the way as the car was on the ramps our apprentice changed your oil and filter cos its a pig of a job on that car. Wow i said thanks how much do i owe you. No charge he said he was doing nothing and its good experience. Now thats customer service. I also bought a Micra in 2011 which had been garaged for a year, i took it for a MOT and a service. I returned to pay and he charged for MOT only saying the car which was 15 years old didnt need a service, I took it there for the next 7 years. That car now flies through its MOT. For a 1998 Micra with no rust on the body.

Unclebenny Gaming that’s a very poetic statement. True as well in most cases but that is purely down to the fact that everyone thinks they are a better driver than everyone else. Fact of the matter is you just made an assumption about me based on no data at all :) I made a statement based on hours and hours of dashcam footage which means it is actually factually accurate to state I am probably better than someone. Because “probably” is the correct way of saying that it is not definite but it is more than possible. And I am better than almost everyone I encounter/record on the road with only a small minority actually being as good or better than me. So just to shut you up and put you in your place. I’ve driven for almost 6 years without incident, I spent a whole year as a self employed driver, and for 6 months of that year I drove a whopping 20 hours a day, 6 days a week (often a full 7 day week). I am still a driver today. Driving is my trade and I recently decided to do my HGV license where I aced my theory and CPC with ease and hardly any revision. So you see I sweat up on the Highway Code, can drift, drive professionally, never had an accident and so statistically it is correct to say that I am probably better than someone I have never met at driving. Now have a nice day chap.
I’m really not in the mood for people with their slushy remarks that are based on no data whatsoever. It’s like when people say sticks and stones and all that. “Ooh anyone who claims they are a better driver isn’t”....says who? What data suggests this? Ahh that’s right it’s just a silly remark designed to antagonise people 😂 idiot.

+Timberland080 This is your biggest fear? Mine is that they don't really replace anything, and just invoice me with all kinds of parts. People do check this in my country, and plenty of vehicles came back without replaced parts, even though they were on the invoice. Services just don't care, they don't get fined or anything. My other problem is whenever I take back my vehicle, their reply is just "if there is no error code ECU, we can't do anything", and that's it. Even if the issue is audible, can be felt, whatever, they don't do jacksh.t...

I wasn’t going to comment but this brought back memories. I bought a brand new M4 in 2016 and had the tracker fitted ready for pick up Friday evening. Got the call at 16:20 that my brand new car was ready for pick up. Went to dealers, picked up the car and drove it home. Next morning the tracker recordings started pinging to my phone from the previous day at 16:15. Map,speed etc all logged by tracker. Car had been driven at 100mph+ and past 2 50mph speed cameras at over 70. This was from cold! The ‘technician’ who fitted the tracker was the one who took it for the test drive!!!! Obviously I went back to dealers for an explanation. Maybe I should have done a RUclips video with the mapping software from tracker

what a lot of people don't understand is how poorly paid the motor trade is, pay peanuts - get monkeys, think of it this way - a good technician will need to know how to diagnose issues in a lot of different areas ie communications networks like can bus, AC systems, hydraulics systems, electrical sensors/actuators, cooling systems, mechanical components, and yet working in any one of those segments alone would be better paid, the motor trade is falling apart and good technicians are very thin on the ground, hence why back street butchers like this are now working in dealerships.

What about scrapes, dings, shopping trollies, thieves and vandals. You also have to wash it, polish it, make love to it and even service it, to be able to get stuck in traffic at 10mph ? Don't get me wrong I love performance high end cars, but for day to day around the city they're just not worth the trouble or expense. Only in my opinion of course.

Don't spend your life thinking about all the negative what ifs. You might run some over with your old ropey brakes, you might get run over when you are out shopping etc etc ;-) Look for the bad you will always find it!
