I am older than dirt and back when I was a young woman I carried a purse that was called a train case. Of course it was NOT a Louis Vuitton and about the only thing it had in common with this LV is that it had those hard sides that were made out of wood or some similar heavy material that could turn this bag into a lethal weapon. In the late 60's (I told you I am older than dirt) after our Christmas break. I was driving down Interstate 40 in Tennessee headed back to college in Nashville with my train case sitting on the front seat beside me. I hit some black ice and my car started rolling down the interstate and down an embankment. According to a truck driver who saw the accident my car rolled three times end over end. Every time my car flipped my train case would fall and whack me in the head. Car would flip again and train case would whack me in the head again. The truck driver rushed down to where my car had finally landed upside down and by the time he got there I had rolled the window down and crawled out and was sitting there staring dismally at my wrecked car. He was amazed that I had been in the car and was okay because he said he came down to pull bodies out of the car because he KNEW no one could survive that crash. I had no broken bones, no cuts, no sprains. The ONLY "injury" I had was a slight headache from being whacked so many times by the train case! This video just brought back a TON of memories!
I think a lot of people have the mindset that we are in a disposable society, and that bag might have meaning to that woman. Maybe her father gave it to her or it was a gift from someone she loved and she wants to preserve it. There are lots of reasons why someone might want to restore something and we shouldn't judge people. For one, its helping Steves business, two, it saves the thing from a land fill, 3, it doesn't kill another cow. However you want to look at it, repairing and re-using something is a noble thing to do.
I agree with you in totality ... however, people just don't know about cobblers and leatherworks due to their ignorance on the subject ... in most cities/towns ... you'd be hard pressed to even find a business, let alone a master craftsman who knows what the hell they're doing ...
Yes! I can only imagine the great places this case has been. It is a beautiful part of the owner's past and will now be part of their future (travels) as well 😊
traderjoes --- I agree in some respects, but you have to be mega-rich to be able to afford to buy such a bag or even restore it. To a lot of families the restoration cost alone is a months living costs. So some perspective needs to be afforded when considering how worthwhile restoring such an item is to society.
I'm a knitter and you can be sure that I repair any item that needs it, considering the time it took to knit it in the first place, wheter it's a sweater, a pair of socks or anything else. And taking good care of a handknit item ensures that it will last as long as possible. The Japanese cherish and collect items of clothing that belonged to poor peasants and have been repaired and patched, they call this category of rags "boro", and now as a knitter I can understand the interest.
Liofa It really then falls to how much an item means to you. There are sentimental values to things. Imagine if your mother or father had a bag that you always loved and they died and it became yours and imagine it was worn out over the years, but it meant something to them and therefore to you. If the cost of a new bag was $500 and the restoration cost $300, you might see it as an investment that is well worth it. Similarly, to a guy like Steve, he gets to practice his craft and let’s say you watch the video and you decide to look into restoring something. That alone is good for society because it means a new maker is born. There’s lots of ways of looking at things. Imagine if all manufacturing goes to China and nobody near you even considers it. I’ve reached out to people on Etsy to make me a custom bag and most of them either are too busy or don’t care. So I started watching these videos for ideas on what’s involved in making my own bag to my specifications.
You are a true craftsman. And, because you are so skilled you don't hesitate to share your expertise. Your attention to detail is what makes your restoration worth every dollar, not to mention the final product looks as good as it first came out of the L.V. store. Just watching you work is a treat in itself. BRAVO. BRAVO.
When you said the straps needed to be replaced, it sounded simple enough… who knew it would have entailed basically taking the entire thing apart and replacing/restoring so much of it? Bravo! What a wonderful result!
Steve, that travel cosmetic bag is so very nice, better than new. Great touch--the pouch. This was a great project. My youngest son is 22, he has a tremor and has had it since he was about 6-8 years old. He is very healthy and has been all his life.
Beautiful work! I am so elated you were able to save that rivet...I was highly skeptical when you said you were going to try! I sent this link to Louis Vuitton as I think they should have you in their database as a restorer in North America . I also sent a link for this to a vintage Designer handbag and luggage dealer in NYC I know. Stellar work as well as an understanding of details as well as function.
Absolutely unbelievable. No one could have done a better job unless they worked for LV for years and had their equipment and factory products. Wonderful craftsmanship Steve. Im sure the owner will be elated!
New subscriber here. Your confidence and craftsmanship are amazing. Glad to see that some people out there still repair things and we haven't completely lost the art.
DeepFriedDoom I can’t tell if you’re complimenting me or telling me I’m getting old 🤣🤣🤣 I will be 53 next month so for a 53-year-old at least I have my hair🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fabulous work. If a customer could afford to purchase an expensive item, they should try to restore it. It’s worth the money and it gets a second breath of life. Excellent workmanship. I’m continually amazed how you just shred it and rip it apart so harshly, yet you’re able to put it back together as if it never happened. ❤️
Beautiful, beautiful job. I am so jealous - want that bag. Your work , without a doubt, is better than the original. The quality and effort that you put into a restoration is incomparable! Thanks for taking us along for the ride!
OMG it's beautiful! LV should pay you for the advertising! You did a truly outstanding job. Considering how much a new one is...$2000K?...you restored it and made it BETTER! LV should reinforce those points of wear! The little snap pouch was a nice touch. I'd have that monogrammed if I were the customer. Well done!!
I like these projects involving the Louis Vuitton products, because this manufacturer is very strict when it comes to doing repairs. If they inspect the item and found it has been repaired outside of their world they will flat out refuse to render service! Steve is a god send to everyone finding themselves in such a dilemma, and as always he improves on the product.
This is my favorite channel on RUclips. I love Bedo's demeanor, his laid back attitude and his craftsmanship is second to none. Did everyone see how fast he sewed that shoulder strap? Wowza! Thank you for videos....I check everyday for new videos. I really enjoy watching.....
Once again another brilliant restoration Steve. Always love your work and your videos. I’m pretty sure your dad would be very proud of you, hope your son will follow you into the family business.
Your incredible attention to detail shows the skills and culture that a true craftsman holds. Thanks for letting us watch that marvelous restoration, making that case even better than new.
Oh Mr. Steve, simply gorgeous, amazing job... An human invented the handbags and all does goodies and then God put you in here to take care of it and keep us happy forever, thanks 🙏
Masterful and authentic, as only Steve the artisan at Bedo's can do it...... AMAZING...... Better than new....! And by the way Steve, nobody is doing it better than you....! Now, LET'S CONTINUE to the next amazing repair job…!
Originality versus going to the dump. Now that i've been following the channel a while, when i last went to the trash yard to dump mine, i saw at least two LV bags (at that point they were completely ruined, but weren't in such a state that an experienced leather man couldn't fix them before the dump) that had been dumped in the leather section. I think an older lady had passed since there were other leather bags too, just that the LVs caught my eye.
I just binge watched a bunch of your videos, They are fantastic. When I clicked on the first one that was recommend and I saw you disassemble a bag I just about had a heart attack haha but now I’m hooked and watching more before and after videos 😂 I didn’t realize how much work went into restoring these items. You do very beautiful work.
I like hearing the prices you charge. It puts a light into the time, effort and cost of supply's. The company I work for charges 45.00 hr for my services and they pay me 20.00 a hour plus time and gas to go to a job.
I’ll give you my reaction. I was absolutely shocked that me added the makeup bag. I had no idea what those 2 snaps inside the case were for. My grandmother gave me this case many years ago and I’m so happy that I can pass this to my daughter someday. After I use it a few times of course.
Wow! This one takes the cake!!! I love that you did your research on the item and even made the inside pouch. Amazing!!! Thanks for sharing your amazing work!!
Started the video and had to stop for awhile... came back to it just tickled pink that I could watch uninterrupted! Such a fine job; nobody could do a better job than this. Thank you for sharing your expertise and the journey of a fine restoration.
I wish the customers would give you permission of you filming them receiving the restoration. I wish I lived near you I would work for free just to learn from you, being into leather working as a hobby I have learned so much just from your videos.
You could easily be licensed as a repair center for LV, Gucci, Christian Louboutin etc. The proof is in the puddin’ you should write them a letter of request!
The amount of knowledge and craftsmanship is honestly crazy. I’ve been to cobblers that claim to have 20 years but do a lousy job consistently. It’s inspiring how good you are in ur lane of work, in general
I love seeing lovely, quality pieces being restored! Costs a whole lot less to repair than buy new. I do all of my own sewing repairs - saves a bundle!
Another professional renovation! Your attention to detail and preservation as close as possible to the original item is commendable. I know it's not always feasible to show the clients reaction but that would be the icing on the cake for the viewer...well me ha ha :)
You are so, very talented and those hands are magnificent with any project. My great aunt and uncle from NY handed me their well kept luggage pieces from when they travelled around the world. I still have some LV that’s seen a world of wonder. I’ve saved them only because I’m not into materialistic items. I cherish them because of the memories she shared with me for 20 years. One general rule instilled was: Hartmann luggage for travel in America. Louis Vuitton for world travel. Makes no difference to me now that I’m older. Most of my items stay in storage. In Japan, they call artists like Steve "National Treasures"... He is definitely qualified to be one here.

I cannot believe you took that bag apart completely and then reassembled it. You are fearless craftsman of the highest order. Much respect.
Love watching these LV restoration videos!!
Bravo and thank you for all your raw content, don’t need any fancy schmancy editing ;) as you say, let’s continue!
You did a beautiful job. If others complain, tell them to open their own shop and repair leather goods their own way. :)

Madam Vonkook THANK YOU
Your attention to detail is marvelous! Perhaps you could teach the people at LV a bit about restoring their products!
Beautiful work, Steve. Feel free to keep the cleaning process in the video. I like that part too!
Wow. You did a great job. Love the make-up case and the extra bag you made for them. Attention to detail is great.

Watching your old videos from 2013, it's amazing what six years of hookah and Armenian coffee can do to a man. Keep it up!

Making the small bag at the end really blew my mind. The project looked unfinished with the two studs in the middle. The research on the bag paid off.
