    • @gecho8848
      @gecho8848 Месяц назад +2

      @@eliteknight2137 I think you missed the point. Yes he could have saved a lot of people by stopping omni man. Lets say he could have saved millions. That amount of people is still nothing in comparison to the effects of changing those events for the rest of time. To the point where a near infinite amount of lives will have been erased or significantly changed because of Marks choice.
      You could never save enough people to justify the lose of all those people gone because of changing time. The only way a character could justify making that choice for all life in the universe is if they are an egomaniac villain who believes that their brand of tyranny is better than the alternative. And being okay with taking away agency from all life in existence is pretty clearly morally corrupt.
      And regardless of all that, Marks ability to use his pre-existing knowledge from the other timeline would only go as far as stopping omni man. After that the timeline will have changed significantly enough to basically make all his predictions of the new timeline from that point on irrelevant.

      And all of these efforts likely can pay off as the writers of the show can see your brilliant work and likely put it on there.
      Thank you very much for posting this gem and I'm dissatisfied that this doesn't have enough attention as it should deserve in the sense it should have at least 100k likes but then again we shouldn't give up hope that it's going to get some traction in the future and let's be optimistic it's soon as possible.

  • @gecho8848

    I think this moral dilemma is actually pretty simple. If Mark chose the new timeline he would be taking countless lives into his own hands and making the choice for them. In turn he may save thousands or even millions, but the amount of lives erased or significantly changed across the whole galaxy/universe for all of time would always outweigh those he saved. So not only could he never save enough people to make up for the possibly infinite lives he effectively would choose to erase by going with the new timeline. He would also suffer great personal lose.
    Seems like a no brainer to me. I would much prefer this story be told as Mark having to convince the entity that by choosing the new timeline more would be lost than gained. And all that loss would be his and the entities responsibility. Culminating in the entity finally realizing it's absolutionist folly and arrogance, but then the entity having to tell mark that he will return him to his original time but that weeks or even months may have passed. Mark would be angered at this of course but has no choice. Only when he finally returns to Eve would he find that not just weeks or months had passed but 2 whole years. (I think 5 years is too much)

    • @manatipowa
      @manatipowa Месяц назад

      You are assuming that what he does doesn't end up with lives being replaced.
      Sure you are right millions even billions could never be born because of his shenanigans, but at the same time also millions and billions will be born to replace those that weren't.
      Mark arguments shows this, eventually he would probably have a child but it would not be Terra because the line of events that ended with Terra never happened, a different one happened so while a child is born, it isn't Terra.
      Same with the millions that are erased, eventually someone will be born in the place of an erased life, it will be someone but not the same person as the erased one, no because everythings changed, someone that had a daughter now may end up with a son, or never meeting a partner to settle with or a different one. Infinite possible outcomes assuming the lives are erased and not "replaced" is just ignoring the reality of things.
      Unless Mark decisions end up with the whole universe turning sterile but I REALLY doubt it.

    • @GravityK-b
      @GravityK-b Месяц назад +1

      @manatipowa I would argue that while Mark choosing to stay in the alternate timeline can save countless lives andto stay in the alternate timeline can save countless lives and have some merit as a valid timeline where something could be gained by it overall I see Mark choosing the original timeline can be just as valid not only as it fulfills Marks desire to be with his original kid and wife but also because he will also have millions as well by choosing the original timeline.
      Both timelines have validity as the tentacle monster has some good arguments for Mark staying in the alternate timeline but also Mark has good arguments choosing to stay in the prior setting and ultimately if the creature wanted to restore balance to the universe why not have the Mauler Twins create a clone of Mark to send that reality while Mark gets to stay in the original and I'm not so sure about the whole restoring balance to the universe thing as if the creature is powerful enough to give Mark the choice to restore balance why it would allow for the problem with the universe to happen in the first place and reality ( in this context is another way of saying the invincible universe) is decent the way it is despite it's imperfections and so this cosmic imbalance can arising within would be unlikely as a. invincible reality has to create something stronger outside of it for it to destroy itself and b. The cosmic imbalance will correct itself as if it destroys reality than it can't exist as well so therefore only reality can exist and not the cosmic imbalance and lastly I would argue the original timeline could have even more benefits for Mark to stay in not only because it will benefit his personal desires but also because the original timeline can still exist if millions are lost from the alternate timeline and it's not impossible for Mark to rebuild millions more and even he can't match the millions more he could have saved by staying in the alternate timeline he did the best he could with the circumstances he was dealt with and wasn't bad for choosing his wife and kid as he shouldn't have to carry the weight of the alternate timeline to begin with even if he is a good man because while it would be good for others it won't necessarily be good for himself so being good to himself is just as valid as being good to others.
      By staying with the original timeline they could be downsides but ultimately Mark can bear that burden and if there is a possibility to make sure in the original timeline to save millions I'm sure Mark will try his best to find it and yes you may say it still won't bring the millions dead back from the alternate reality and yes that is true that may be a negative but ultimately Mark has made his choice to choose the original timeline that may come with some consequences but on the plus side he gets to see his wife and kid again and if the chance arises to save millions he would take it and to make his personal choice for staying in the original reality if not positive for others then for himself but will try to compensate for the good of others while cherishing his needs as well and ultimately he can maximize the potential good things that can result by staying with the original timeline and try his best to make a case for it.

    And then the time-traveling tentacle monster was never elaborated on further. There's a difference between leaving things open to interpretation and just writing in a time skip. Hell the same story's accomplished by saying Mark fell in a time hole and missed five years, which frankly the whole "Mark gets stranded in a time altering dimension" shtick was really getting old, glad this was at least the last time they did it.

      I agree I felt like the writers just wanted Mark to suffer so they needlessly introduced the tentacle monster to shame him for putting his wife and kid first through a cheap time travel plot which could have been done so much better like instead of Mark out of nowhere leaving the alternate timeline he has some time to reflect on it and before the tentacle monster shames him for being selfish sees his side for choosing the original shows his reasons and maybe they both can can compromise where he can have what he wants all the whole restoring balance to the universe as it's a difficult situation for both of them and both of them see flashes of all positive and negative outcomes of both the alternative and original timeline and see why it's not impossible for Mark decision to see his wife and kid to be wrong as it might not exactly destroy balance to the universe.

      There's also a legitimate argument to be made in favor of his choice. For instance, regardless of some sort of universal balance, the events of his original timeline happened naturally, and although the changes he made in the new timeline seemed to be for the better in the short term, the long term consequences of this could potentially be catastrophic. It's not a new concept, and there's even been sci-fi type stories before covering events such as going back in time to kill Hitler before he took power, only for the person who takes power instead to end up being much worse.
      Additionally, the choice he was being offered was to kill one timeline in favor of another. This ends up happening regardless of his choice. With the two options being effectively the same in this regard, his choice to return to his original timeline, faults and all, can be seen as the ultimately more selfless and mature decision. He's not just saving his daughter at the expense of thousands, as many many other individuals across history also wouldn't have been born if not for the tragedies that preceded them. To choose the new timeline just because the events seem happier in the short term would be very short sighted and irresponsible towards the entire timeline he hails from, and could be seen as pursuing a selfish outcome.

    If you are in the band of people saying Mark should've stayed in the new timeline, consider this.
    In the long run, you are absolutely wrong. Marrying and having a relationship with Eve could save millions of lives more by her becoming the wife of essentially the most powerful being with an impossible amount of support and resources. They are a civilization changing force, just the two of them, Terra goes on to be an ambassador of the Coalition, helping planets change their brutal savage ways, the sacrifice Oliver makes is the deciding factor that brings about Thragg's end. There are so many plot points these characters are necessary to that it brings into question the absolute morality the blue creatures and you spouse.
    Also, Invincible never asked or wanted to be in the position of a ruler, or even a hero after becoming a father. This position is thrown on him repeatedly throughout the story and this is the true reason Mark is the main character, a great man that saves the universe, not because he wants to, because if he doesn't, who else will?
    This makes the story feel way more real and I truly hope everyone else can see this, its not just that they cant change it because it would alter the trajectory of the story. They SHOULDN'T change it because its the epitome of Mark's journey as his own person.

    Largely disappointed in what could have been a great story in Invincible that instead ended up going nowhere as while this new timeline that this blue creature offered mark showed the better timeline he created was good and all and saved millions ultimately he wasn't selfish to choose the original timeline over this one even if the other one resulted in better results for everyone and potentially for more happiness for Mark, saving millions and correcting balance in the universe as yes he was not in the wrong to do so just to see his wife and original kid as those were in his original timeline and the one he knew best as he had close ties with these people.
    Some common objections to this would be.
    A. Why would he choose the original timeline when in the new timeline he could just marry Eve again and have a kid but this wouldn't be the same Eve and the kid would be different.
    B. His destroying millions of lives and the whole timeline and unsettling the whole balance of things just to see his wife and kid again yes it may seem it's a bad decision but don't forget she's someone he's close with and why put the heavy responsibility of something like this on someone who wants to live a happy life as the argument could also be made he's screwing with his personal happiness just to save this alternate universe it's difficult to say but I'm on the table on this one as selfless altruism for all of existence or putting your personal happiness first even over the whole universe but depends if the stakes of destroying reality are too big maybe he should take the selfless route but if there is an option for him to find personal happiness without the stakes being too severe I would see the case for him taking it so I find validity in both arguments but this is a big debate anyways and hopefully it gets solved in the future.
    C. What if did indeed this alternate timeline was actually the original and the creature sent him fives years into the future to so much he screwed the original by choosing back to the original just under different circumstances with huge consequences and I would argue there was no way he could know if the alternate was actually the original and even if he did screw it up I believe it was his choice to make as he already had a life in the original expect with different circumstances besides the original life he had wasn't so bad that the whole universe collapsed and the original one could have been made better and so what he has done can be seen as negative but I don't see as objectively wrong as the original with different circumstances offered better objective happiness him so I guess I see the case for his own well-being even over the whole universe but again I'm on the fence on this one as well as the arguments could go both ways.
    Overall I believe there are way too many contradictions and plot holes with this story and I largely understand the arguments for Mark wanting to see his wife and kids and just for the original to be the way it was but I see this story being inspired by the trolley problem and would go back in time to destroy Hitler to save millions or keep keep the things the way they are with both negative and positive consequences so again saving the universe/going back time to create a better timeline or putting personal happiness first/keeping things the way they are or have half putting your happiness first and half saving the universe or finding a way to save the universe and have your personal happiness or go to a different universe altogether to avoid this mess or realize reality is self correcting so it's impossible for negative timeline to destroy it because if reality doesn't exist because of the negative timeline neither will the negative alternate timeline thus reality will always exist and no negative timeline can destroy it and maybe all of this is just something beyond our comprehension in the grand of schemes so nature knows best and let things be the way they are.
    To quote the Mauler twin who poisoned King Mauler after he found out he was the original and he was just the clone and being made into a slave and felt inferior so he wanted to even the score said after poisoning King Mauler "Sometimes Things Are The Way They Are For A Good F#cking Reason"
    I hope this story isn't adapted into the Invincible Tv show and removed from the Invincible comics universe and instead replaced with a better story.
    Love to hear your thoughts on the whole saving the universe or putting your personal happiness first as there cases for both and maybe the debate can be settled some time along the line with answers for both or make a more valid case for personal happiness who knows.

    • @gecho8848
      @gecho8848 Месяц назад +2

    • @GravityK-b
      @GravityK-b Месяц назад

      @@gecho8848The creators of invincible should hire you as the new writer as honestly your idea for this story would have been much better than what we originally got especially how the blue creature now realizes why Mark has reasons for choosing to stay in the original timeline with his wife and kid over the original timeline inspite of the consequences as while their are consequences to be had when leaving the alternate timeline there also mental consequences for him as he is leaving his wife and kid behind in the original timeline and I would say to restore balance to the universe have the Mauler Twin make a clone of Invincible one who will stay in alternate timeline to restore balance and the original gets to go back to his original timeline without it being erased if possible there problem solved.

The story could've progressed well with a timeskip after/during the conflict with Thragg, perhaps even a "5-year war" timeskip, but they instead decided to pull this out of nowhere and make Mark suffer for no reason. It's completely out of place and only serves the purpose of skipping major story beats that Kirkman didn't bother to actually progress in the original run of the comics. I really hope the show leaves this out since Kirkman is an executive producer, and we get a much smoother story.

    This arc is horrible and they need to skip it. Besides the fact that it was a lazy way to write in a time skip for plot convenience, the message it attempts to bring is awful. If you've seen the episode tapestry from star trek, this is similar but it has the oppose message. The protagonist finds themselves in their past and they have a chance to right what went wrong. In star trek, it's shown that even actions that are mistakes in someone's past are necessary and essential to becoming something better. Meanwhile this trying to say no you should want to correct every mistake in your past and if you dont you're selfish. It's really bad writing.
