  • SpaceX has added some clarity around in motion usage of Starlink hardware - for the first time mentioning a 10mph speed limit for in motion "Mobile Data" usage on all Mobile Plans.
Mobile Priority Data will be needed for speeds greater the 10 mph.
Great for boaters who cruise slowly or at anchor - but what about those in RVs, or who purchased Winegard HP Flat dishes with the promise of highway speed in motion usage on the $150/mo plan?
There's also new wording around using the Standard $599 dish in motion - it's not at your own risk.

None of their current antennas work for my overland rig due to excessive power draw. I'm waiting the "new" antennas to be released later this summer, if at all.

Anyone know if doing all day travel traveling at 60 mph while on the road but connecting while at roadside stops count as in motion usage over the 10mph threshold?

If you're only connected while stopped, and on the Mobile plan - that's not even in motion use.

can you pause the mobile plan on a day to day basis ? like just use it for 1 day a month for 30 months and that would be a charge of 200 bucks?

Cruise ships dont travel at 10 mph max so how do they do it?

They are paying business/commercial rates that include full speed in motion ocean use. Way way more than the typical consumer $150/mo best effort land based plan that now includes in motion up to 10 mph.

Slow down so us non-techies can follow. Most people are interested in the basics. Will it work on my boat? If so, where will it work? How much does it cost? Then spell out the variables for each usage.
But whatever you do, slow down.

This is a news story about a policy development. We have a lot of Starlink content - some of it goes over the basics, and some of it goes into more detail. You can find all of Starlink resources here: www.rvmobileinternet.com/starlink-resources/

my KVH antenna already works when driving at speed, this system is becoming more costly and less efficient as time goes on in addition SpaceX Starlink satellites are leaking electromagnetic radiation, screwing up other systems as a result
