I believe there is nothing wrong with having variety of foods but in moderation. Not all fruits, veggies or meats are created equal. I also believe we eat way too much since the food is so accessible nowadays especially processed food. Our gut processes carbs so fast that less than an hour later we feel hungry again. Meats and fats take much longer to digest, so this notion that meats rot in our stomach is just a baloney, imo. Meats take much longer to be processed so our gut doesn’t signal the brain that our stomach is empty so we feel satiated for much longer, and in turn we wont be reaching for that snack like if we had a carb meal. Also, the insulin won’t spike as high and tumble down as fast. It will be gradual. I think it is very important to eat variety with emphasis on meat being the largest portion on the plate followed by a handful of veggies, even little potato, rice, or pasta would be good. Unfortunately many can’t eat this way and they engorge themselves on whatever is served, especially carbs in form of pasta, potatoes and rice.

If soaked beans are still hard after about 30 - 45 minutes of cooking, add stirring up to a teaspoon of baking soda to the pan for the final 15 minutes. That makes beans soft. Useful if the dried beans are a bit too old.

My period of using the CGM is about over. I was able to get one via Dr Boz but insurance of course wants no part of it. With some discounts it was about $160 for the month. That period is about over. Learned quite a bit during the period...I"m assuming a spike is worse than a gradual increase? Pretty clear any sweet drink shoots it up quickly. Ice cream on the other hand isn't as bad and is much slower in raising glucose. I go with a carb smart version so it doesn't seem to be awful..but still raises it. Like stated in this episode some fruits aren't that bad but you wouldn't want to live on them. Bananas (for me anyway) wasn't to bad. I know it is for some.
@@makaisenki Where do you know? Where is the evidence? "Spikes" seems to be another Influencer-term without semantic ingredients. Chemical eactivity is not only concentration-dependent but also a function of time. It seems obvious though that sugar-spiking is some kind of stress to the body. But what are the consequences?
@@Neptuniamos spikes are pretty much caused by a multitude of factors. If you have low muscle mass from a low protein diet and not enough hypertrophy to make up for the lower protein intake, You become the muscle mass and you are more susceptible to spikes. This is because when you have a lot of glucose your muscles can respond to the insulin by up taking that glucose into the muscle. If you are regularly eating too much sugar you're going to cause a whole host of issues. The high glucose is going to cause your body to recycle more of the sodium which is going to help you retain more of that sodium which is already pretty high if you're eating stuff that has a lot of carbs anyway because most of the highly processed foods have a lot of carbs and salt. This is going to raise your blood pressure. In a healthy person what's going to happen is that you start off with a low basal insulin, You have room for glycogen storage, You have a meal You have an insulin spike that insulin pushes that glucose and glycogen into the cells, it stored it's fine. Once those cells become full you require a higher basal insulin level in order to keep your blood sugar under 120 where it starts doing damage. Senescence cells aka zombie cells their primarily a result of high blood sugars. Cancer mainly uses fermentation pathways caused by glucose in the blood in order to produce the amount of energy that they need for their high metabolic rate. The high glucose is harder on a lot of the organs like liver and kidney, it can cause you to start burning out pancreatic beta cells to have high spikes every time you consume food. That's without getting into insulin and ghrelin and impacts of all sorts of hormones that get disrupted because insulin is dominant hormone... As someone who used to be 370 lb, with a knee brace and an ingrown toenail that I had to have surgically removed every 6 months in incredible pain, to lose 50 lb and then start slowly gaining weight eating the same way I was eating when I lost the 50 lb, still wearing a knee brace still having all these problems and pains, Then I did Keto and I've never had an ingrown toenail issue again I have only needed the knee brace three times in the past 5 years, I can eat a Sam's club apple pie and I'm talking there big ones, over 2 days and not be able to see my blood sugars at 120... Now that I'm down to 220, The same way that was before I am able to do more weight than I was when I was going to the gym all the time at 18 years old, And no matter what I eat I don't seem to really hit above 120 because I became healthy. So I can get away with a lot of stuff just because I have more room to store glucose and my basal insulin is down And I can do 3-day fasts... Like that's health. Blood sugar spikes are the antithesis of health. If you want to live longer one way you're not going to do that is by having blood sugar spikes all the time. I can list off a hundred more reasons why you don't want to spike your blood sugar all the time. A healthy person doesn't. Because they're insulin just needs to rise for a little bit push everything in and they're good.
Not sure that is true of the larger variety of blueberries which are common in supermarkets "Yes, despite their size, blueberries do happen to contain quite a bit of sugar. One cup of blueberries contains around 15g of sugar, whereas raspberries contain 5g of sugar. But on the plus side, blueberries are also made up of several different types of phytonutrients."
Fermented Cabbage is made with salt and water and has the health benefits. Sour Crout that is made with vinegar does not have the same benefits. I keep my whole flax seeds in the freezer in an easy pour container and grind some in a coffee grinder right before we consume it. This prevents the oil from going rancid. I also learned this from Barbara O’Neil on YT. I’m going to get back to sprouting our own broccoli sprouts - thanks for the reminder about cancer killing effects.
Many carnivores begin as keto, only to find that ALL carbs had to be purged from their diets to reverse their Type 2. I'd LOVE to be an omnivore again, but I believe a normal A1C is my highest health priority.
If I’m on a low carb lifestyle diet everybody is saying stay away from oatmeal! So can I have overnight oats made with steel cut oats and still be considered low-carb ?
My latest fasting sugar and A1C were in the Pre diabetic range even though i'm very fit. But i'm not giving up my steel oats. I add a fat like almond or peanut butter to slow the insulin spike hopefully.
@@bartrobinson2103 Thank you! I love my Steel cut overnight oats and don’t wanna give them up. I also put full fat Greek yogurt with some raspberries on it. But every keto diet says stay away from oats. Who knows
Try groats, which are whole grain oats that haven't even been steel cut {basically horse feed}. The larger full-size grain takes longer to digest and will mute the sugar spike. It's best to pressure cook them in larger batches and then keep them in the fridge afterwards. Refrigerating them also turns them into starch resistant carbs which further lowers their glycemic index. Also, do not add sugar, only a little fruit {preferably berries} and also add butter, olive oil, walnuts or whole milk with them to add fat which will also mute the sugar spike. And maybe have an egg and a little bacon before eating them, because eating fats and proteins beforehand will mute the glycemic spike of carbs if you eat them afterwards. And also, the egg and bacon will help to satiate you which will mean you can eat less oats and still feel satisfied and full. Lastly, only eat organic groats. Non-organic oats are harvested by deliberately spraying glyphosate {RoundUp} directly onto the oat crop to quickly kill it all at once {called "desiccation"}. This dries the entire crop up quickly so it can be harvested very efficiently which ensures maximum profits for big agra. But for you it means Round Up is a big part of what's on your oats.
Sorry, but I disagree with your list - especially for those who may be diabetic already. Everyone should test themselves to see how these foods affect their own blood sugar levels. And for omega 3, people should eat seafood - not flax. Also, you need to specify that if people are going to eat these 5 items that they need to get organic, non-GMO versions.
Aren't there no heavy metals in seafood anymore like mercury? I doubt you get pre-diabetic with a proper hole food diet and in case you are already, it's IMO better to go keto/carnivore for a good while to fix the metabolism. But I also doubt it's the best diet to practice forever and seems rather a tool to fix pure glucose metabolism. Once the body is craving carbs again while on keto, it seems better to add some healthy carbs back in instead of ignoring the signs.
@@Leynad778 it depends on the seafood and the quality (wild caught vs farmed). Fish is a much better source of omege-3 in general because your body doesn't have to convert it. And I personally feel eating it is best, but I know some people can only supplement because they don't like it (a shame - it's so amazing when cooked right. Wild caught salmon is totally amazing!). I'm not against carbs at all as long as people are insulin sensitive enough to handle them. It's such an individual thing. I know for me, raspberries send my sugar levels through the roof . And I'd never even dare to try chickpeas! Broccoli sprouts *might* be ok but I'd really rather eat broccoli (but I know they aren't the same).
@@CJ-Photo Wild salmon is about 50 Euro per kg here, too much for my salary, but organic ground meat I eat regularly and some fish-oil occasionally. Broccoli doesn't seem to spike glucose and chickpeas seem okay for me as well, but only tried them once in small dosage. They certainly didn't trigger me to change my eating intervals. Fermented red cale is usually full of sugar, so I buy Sauerkraut instead.
THANK YOU! Very good info. Have you had many patients who get stiff, sore tendons/ligaments on rosuvastatin? I’m an omnivore, 60g protein daily mostly meat and dairy, lots of fruits & veg, ~1 cup whole grain rice a day, low processed carbs, no sugar. Moderate alcohol, moderate exercise.
They say the carnivore diet depending on the amount of metabolic problem can help your body heal and reset. Depending on your inflammation they say 30, 60, or 90 days. Then I personally would introduce food back one at a time to see if inflammation returns.
Regarding Fiber, it is not a nutrient, but it is digestive process modifier. The Rot discussion sounds to me like click bait subject. - Dr. Richard Johnson's book 'Nature Wants Us To Be Fat" is a good. - Omnivore rule! They have more options and greater metabolic flexibility.
I would like to see a program describing the types of sugars and starches to recognize what all the names for sugars are. That would help understand how much sugar is in processed foods .
I tested this today and hit 157 on my blood sugar reading 45-min after eating 1-cup of a frozen mix of raspberries, blackberries & blueberries. That is much higher than my low carb meals. However, is this an acceptable range? FYI - I'm not diabetic, but I do have atherosclerosis.
Thanks for sharing, so is not usual to have that kind of spike with raspberries, especially if they are not processed, you might want to check some of our videos on insulin resistance, 52% of people over the age of 18 will develop it, and as we mentioned in the video, what you just did, eating to the glucometer is the biggest tool to use
a KEY component that is missed here is the toxic environment we live in. we have poisoned the planet with toxic chemicals that no one can escape. extremely hard to quantify the effect of this on health but my .02 cents this is also a major driver of cancers we are seeing in young people.
It is easy to eat too many chickpeas. The omega-6 to omega-3 ratio in chickpeas is considered to be quite high, typically around 15:1 due to the fact that chickpeas contain significantly more omega-6 fatty acids compared to omega-3 fatty acids; meaning for every small amount of omega-3, there is a large amount of omega-6 present in a serving of chickpeas.
One can also ferment the chickpeas- I make hummus from them after soaking overnight and the pressure cooking them. I then add tahini , olive oil and some salt. Then I ferment them with L Reuteri bacteria for 36 hours.

Cooking chickpeas with baking soda (1tsp to 500 gr) helps soften them
Before cooking chickpeas you must put them in water during a day, or a night. So teduce the time cooking.
Dr Gundry said that pressure cooking breaks down lectins in legumes. He recommended pressure cooking beans.
Grundy is the biggest quack on YT.
Perfect beans from dried beans recipe, soak beans overnight in water . That breaks down the being and starts it to the sprouting process so it's more nutrient it has no plant toxins and it Cooks in very little time it's almost edible at that point
I just found chickpea pasta!! Can't wait to try it! Yippie!! No more shirataki noodles! P.S. read the ingredients. Get the one with only chickpeas. I saw a cheaper one with other ingredients.
Cooking dried beans to perfection in no time with no pressure cooker is simple all you have to do is soak them and clean water covered water overnight and when you cook them the next day they will already be soft because they started going into the sprouting process if you rinse them and leave them in a jar and put them in some dirt you can also make sprouts with them at this point
I came back to add rinse the lentils before you cook them in freshwater

In German, Sauerkraut means "sour cabbage" or "sour vegetable." In Canada we can buy Green
or Red Sauerkraut. I frement my own Sauerkraut because it has the best results for my health. Most stores sell Vinager or Wine Sauerkraut that does not have the good bacteria for the gut.
Spike is like 30 point increase. 90 to 120. Above 120 you are doing nerve damage but takes years or like 400 blood sugar to do the damage.

If you eat, fat and protein with sugar, it helps slow the glycemic response.

I make sourkraut with red cabbage and 2% salt and sometimes I add some fennel seeds because I like the flavor of them.
I prefer blueberries over raspberries because it is lower in oxalates and also doesn't impact blood sugar levels.
Not sure that is true of the larger variety of blueberries which are common in supermarkets
"Yes, despite their size, blueberries do happen to contain quite a bit of sugar.
No water in sour krout. Salting the cabbage creates liquid released from the cabbage.
Saurkraut ,the real stuff, is sold cheaply ( in glass jars) at ALDIS. Imported from Germany.
How about canned chickpeas? Are they less nutritious than cooking from scratch?
I cook chickpeas on the stove in a pot and with in 45 mins there are soft, i use my pressure cooker and i realized the time were the same
The problem with greens and salads is folks are addicted to the toppings, salad dressings with seed oils, croutons, etc.
I have to disagree and, yes, I have been carnivore for six years and I’m 79 years old! I’m not going to eat any other way!🙏
Many carnivores begin as keto, only to find that ALL carbs had to be purged from their diets to reverse their Type 2. I'd LOVE to be an omnivore again, but I believe a normal A1C is my highest health priority.
do you eat grass fed only or any kind of meat is fine?
If I’m on a low carb lifestyle diet everybody is saying stay away from oatmeal! So can I have overnight oats made with steel cut oats and still be considered low-carb ?
My latest fasting sugar and A1C were in the Pre diabetic range even though i'm very fit. But i'm not giving up my steel oats. I add a fat like almond or peanut butter to slow the insulin spike hopefully.
I try to never eat old-fashioned or instant oats. Only the long cooking steel cut.
@@bartrobinson2103 Thank you! I love my Steel cut overnight oats and don’t wanna give them up. I also put full fat Greek yogurt with some raspberries on it. But every keto diet says stay away from oats. Who knows
@vicki4552 . Yes exactly who knows? It gets very frustrating!

True, but once you have metabolic disorder, it may take an extreme to get you back on track.

I'm so glad you said raspberries 🎉❤😂 I just started keto it's 1st of June my berries will be ripe in 30 days.
26:00 is where Dr. Brewer discusses the benefits of fiber.
Is it a mix of both healthy
They say the carnivore diet depending on the amount of metabolic problem can help your body heal and reset. Depending on your inflammation they say 30, 60, or 90 days. Then I personally would introduce food back one at a time to see if inflammation returns.
Regarding Fiber, it is not a nutrient, but it is digestive process modifier. The Rot discussion sounds to me like click bait subject. - Dr. Richard Johnson's book 'Nature Wants Us To Be Fat" is a good. - Omnivore rule! They have more options and greater metabolic flexibility.
Can you provide references to all the "Supports Brain Health" and "Cancer Prevention" claims here?
I would like to see a program describing the types of sugars and starches to recognize what all the names for sugars are. That would help understand how much sugar is in processed foods .
If it end in “ose”, it’s a sugar. E.g.: glucose, fructose, sucrose, lactose, galactose…
There's a sound in the background like heavy breathing.
It sounds like a little dog barking!

Does further processing of chickpeas into Hummus ruin all these benefits?
I make my sauerkraut with red cabbage. No difference in the fermenting process.
One can also ferment the chickpeas- I make hummus from them after soaking overnight and the pressure cooking them. I then add tahini , olive oil and some salt. Then I ferment them with L Reuteri bacteria for 36 hours.
