Hello Alisa! You have a beautiful daughter. Thank you so much for sharing your passion for sewing here on RUclips. You have inspired me to draft my own sewing patterns. Stay safe. Greetings from South Africa😊
Thank you so much, Maya for sharing your passion and being so kind - and it just brings a ton of joy to my heart that we can share this sewing passion through many miles! :)
Thank you for this! My just turned 4 yr old daughter picked out some fabric for shorts and a T-shirt for her bday and I got the shorts done today using your video. She loves them!
Your daughter is very adorable. Hugs for her. The timing of this tutorial is perfect. My daughter is turning to 2. I will make few for her. Thank you Alisa.
My pleasure! Awww, kids are so much fun and 2-3 years old is a fun age! They have their own ideas of what they like and don't like, so fun! I hope you make some, it really is so easy - I made her 6 of these for the entire summer pretty much on one day and from my old t -shirt and 2 old cardigans, so win-win!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Exactly, the little mind is so specific when it comes to fashion and as what they want to wear. We experience summer most of the time in Sri Lanka. So shorts are very useful for us. Thank you Alisa. I really appreciate your effort to teach us on maximizing the resources. It saves the planet.
Thank you very much dear Sis, I now know how to make short for any age, followed your tutorial and made for my children and they liked it and super excited. GOD bless your home graciously
Thank you for sharing this great pattern. I tried it right after viewing this for a pair of shorts for my 3 year old grandchild and it was just perfect. I have tried a couple purchased patterns for my grandchildren but this "custom" pair was by far the best fitting. Thank you for all your patterns. I have tried several for myself and they fit great.
Hi at just before 8min 14 into your video the front pattern shape changes - you have put a curve in the front which you didn’t cover … are you able to give the measurements that you have used for that please?
Like, what the heck? Lol. Totally threw me, too! Maybe explain that on the front end where you describe the video. This way you dont have to redo video but it offers an explanation? Just a thought. Excellent tutorial, though!! Love your voice and your little girl!!
Thank you so much Alisa for popping up in Cm measure I am a bit lost with inches- where would I find a short pattern for an woman pattern please ? Hello from Melbourne Australia
Not a problem. You can always just Google conversion of inches to cms.I have videos for different pants including shorts for women on my channel - just go and look please on my "video" tab on my channel.
I'm a tracer when it comes to children's shorts. I simply rip the seams and trace them adding/up-cycling maybe pockets or patches maybe even some bows.
For sure :) Jersey, sort of like a thicker t-shirting, but you can use woven fabric too (no stretch) you just have to make sure you have enough ease in your pattern.
On the shorts, I’d like to know why did you have to come in a quarter of an inch where the crouch line is and then make the curve line from the crouch to the bottom of the shorts???
You can leave it straight, or you can curve it in, depends on what fit you want. If you look at your leg - it does not stay straight, it usually goes from thicker thigh to thinner ankle.
I loved this tutorial! But I'm confused with the instructions because I think the waist measurement is only mentioned when taking the child's measurements, just the hip and crotch are referenced when drawing the pattern. Even so, I think I understand the instructions. Am I just confused?? What am I missing?
As mention on the screen in the tutorial, we need waist measurement to determine if the hips are larger than the waist, as this drafting method is based on the waist being smaller than hips, edited to add that you also need waist measurement to determine elastic length when you are ready for that step in the construction of the shorts.
That girl is worried about the lack of pockets! Good, she's growing up right (totally a kiddo after my own heart ;). Thank you - this is a great tutorial!
Omg, yes! The other day I was getting her ready for day care and it was rainy outside so I pulled legging with a sweatshirt for her, she would not put them on as they had no pockets and she told me "no pockets makes my heart sad". Kids!
Whoa, suddenly that front pattern piece has a cut out that was definitely not included in the instructions!! It’s also got some kind of “J” diagram on it, too! What happened?? Lol.
My grandma was a seamstress and I am sure if she was still with us she might be curious as to the accuracy of that way of taking an inseam measurement? I sure am.

Second curve is a pocket, I have a tutorial for how to sew and draft pockets, juts go to my channel and take a look.

Mummy how do you dare forget about the pocket🤭😏😍
Can I ask what material you have used for these lovely shorts please
For sure :) Jersey, sort of like a thicker t-shirting, but you can use woven fabric too (no stretch) you just have to make sure you have enough ease in your pattern.

How do I print the pattern
When you said crotch measurement did you mean the measurement you took when your child was sitting down?
Either then that the pattern is very good
Yes
Hi dear l have two boys want to sew for them t shirts, shorts , night pyjamas etc for them pls make videos for boys thanks from india
Hey dear, i think you can do the pattern for boys the same way. Just choose fabric that is cool for boys. Love from Germany @Syeda Meherunissa

Hi I don't know how to make pockets
Open the infobox... And you will see how to make pockets.
Kids don't wear clothes, they are baby goats. However, humans have children.
Can't you just use pants pattern & shorten it..??
Go for it, if you have one :)
Whoa, suddenly that front pattern piece has a cut out that was definitely not included in the instructions!! It’s also got some kind of “J” diagram on it, too! What happened?? Lol.
It is just a place for pocket, if you need to add a pocket - tutorial is in the description.
