    Hong Konger here :)
I have to admit I'm pretty impressed because I didn't know some of these facts, but also I have to point out a mistake in fact number one. Hong Kong does mean 'fragrance harbour' in Chinese but that's because a long time ago Hong Kong used to be a ship port for wood, and that type of wood gives off a fragrance smell, not because the water is sweet or anything. :)

Hong Kong is not the most expensive place to live I've lived there and I found it much cheaper than most 1st world cities. Of course if you live like a tourist it's expensive. But food and transport is very affordable. Rent is high, but you can find reasonable places. I used to live in Wan Chai and my place was small, but affordable.

Clarification: JAPAN DID NOT RULED HONG KONG. During WWII, Japan had occupied HK. Many atrocities occur during that time. IT IS IN NO WAY, a colonial rule, it was a war crime! There are zero Japanese influence in both Mainland China and Hong Kong/Macau because of the unresolved tensions that still exist to this day. Please study up on the Second Sino-Japanese War before making such videos and claiming them to be facts!

    • @achiinto

Jyanne Skye Japan had tons of influences over Japan in terms of languages, culture and economy. Get a life. Japan is still China's single largest investor today. All modern vocabularies in modern Chinese and Korean are created by the Japanese. Stunned by how stupid people can get when they come to simplifications of knowledges. Shame

Shame on you, Professor Knowledge. And the modern and old language of Japanese came from China, which in the Tang and Shui Dynasty, China have ambassadors to Japan, and the first emperor who admitted Japan a country is from China. Go search 'Japanese' in Wikipedia, you can get the real knowledge. Even the textbooks in Japan teaches children about Japanese is from Chinese…
Don't be ignorant, knowledge is power.

Jyanne Skye: CLARIFICATION on your Clarification. JAPAN DID RULE HONG KONG.
Well, they issued currencies in Hong Kong during their occupation times. If that's not ruling what is? Well, if ruling over a place is a crime then I am sure the Chinese Communist Party is committing a crime wherever they rule. Heck, look at these disgusting Commies who taught you hate just so they divert your attention from seeing who's the people's true enemy - the Chinese Communist Party. Wake up, dumb ass.

The so many special characterisrics in HK, as a HongKonger, I will recommend food, natural environments and architechture, not the skycrappers, but the old British buildings and the shophouses. Also, as HK is hilly, there are so many beautiful nature parks and hiking trails in HK with spectacular views.
Also, actually Feungshui isn't be taken as that serious in HK, just depends on people and the estate developer😀

The Japanese occupied Hong Kong for 3 years and 8 months during world war two. But it had no effect nor impact on Hong Kong whatsoever since. I remember as a child in the 1950s , I was still able to pick up war relics on a beach in Kowloon, where the Japanese landing forces clashed with the defenders. But that beach had since been built over with highrise buildings since the eighties.

  • @Perrygallo
    @Perrygallo 5 лет назад +2

0:41 it wasn't "occupied by the British"'; it was de-facto British land and territory during its years under the Crown. It also didn't become "independent" from British rule because it was handed straight to Chinese sovereignty, so it was never independent from anyone.

I am a HongKonger and I proud to be one of Hong Kong. Despite the abovementioned information about Hong Kong aren't that precise, those information do help people take a briefly look on Hong Kong. Owing to the fact that many ppl confuse Hong Kong ,China or TaiWan. It is a great idea to have such video to show the world on the characteristics of Hong Kong. BTW, Hong Kong didn't have that much Japanese culture as the brutal rule is only 44 months (long for war),yet we do enjoy japan's culture now. Perhaps you may make some video about the downside of Hong Kong, to view Hong Kong the one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Who those once lived in Hong Kong would realise living in Hong Kong is challenging and frustrating. All in all, impressive video though.

  • @yoloyo2014

Actually Japanese had very few influence to Hong Kong compare to China or British due to the colonial period of Japan was very short. You can see Japanese food, Jpop and animate are popular in Hong Kong but they were imported after 1970~1980s. One more thing, we do have alcohol limit, normal we wouldn't sell drinks to teens under 18 =)

Japanese influence is highly inaccurate, it occupied for a few years but Japanese occupation was seen with much hostility due to their WW2 antics. Hong Kong (along with Tokyo) has the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the world. Fun fact: the cheapest Michelin restaurant in the world is in Hong Kong.

    • @Bouncybon

This is true. In the Second World War the Japanese invaded the colony and occupied it. They only left when the war ended and Japan had lost the war. The British returned - were welcomed back by the local people and they restored their colonial administration. They started to develop a great modern city which China was delighted to take back in 1997 in accordance with legal treaties which the British observed.

Is it really THAT expensive? :/ I want to live there cause I really, really like Cantonese. But idk what value I can bring to Hong Kong to have people hire me and get paid well. Do you guys have a demand for German teachers? :D

the things they mention are just far more expensive than a local way of living, you can check video from other foreign youtubers that live in Hong Kong. I just watched one. ruclips.net/video/woHJEwp9sSI/видео.html

Hong Kong is not the most expensive city in the world for expats Luanda, Angola is considered more expensive. But if I had to pick a city to live in it would still be Penang, Malaysia.
