- The Castle of Eger was one of the last stand of the Kingdom of Hungary after the Turkish invaded Hungary and pushing northward. In 1552 the Ottoman Army has reached Eger and the siege was begun. Hungarian forces was no more than 2,100-2,300 people, a mixture of professional soldiers, peasants and a few dozen women defended the castle against 60 000- 70 000 seize of Ottoman Army. The defenders led by István Dobó repelled the attacks and defended the castle. The siege has become an emblem of national defense and patriotic heroism in Hungary.
The fortress remained resistant to the turkish attacks until 1596 when capitulated to the Ottoman forces personally commanded by the Sultan, Mehmed III and the town remained in turkish hands for 91 years.

Thank you for posting this video. I am proud to say that one of my ancestors (on my mothers side) fought and died at Eger during the siege. It was nice to see his name carved in the memorials when I had the opportunity to visit my homeland.

We were in Eger withHungarian friends .The women took part too supplying the men and lobbed bricks etc from the castle walls .There is a statue in the square of a young woman throwing a large stone .My kind of woman that. Up and at them girls .
And now: history repeats itself Hungary defends itself against a force of refugees, led by Brussels. So far: succesfully. I wish the Hungarians ever lasting victory!
The West never helped us. We protect Europe for 1100 years. Meanwhile we protected Europe against Ottomans the West supported the turks. French king gave cannons for the sultan, Venice gave them ships and the Holy Roman Empire denied to support us...etc. We also protected Europe during the mongolian invasion, ottoman invasion, against bolsheviks or just like today against migrants. This is our destiny. and what we gave for this ? Turkish occupation, Habsburg Occupation, Trianon (the Kingdom of Hungary was being torn apart) and Soviet Union... The situation today is the same, we protect Europe again against migrants and therefor we gave media campaign and excommunication from the West.
After the turkish occupation a lot of part of the Kingdom of Hungary became uninhabited. In Vojvodina (today Serbia) the Austrians denied to resettle the region with hungairans and call in the serbs. Thats how became Vojvodina region serbian majority.

The title of this video should not have been Hungarians and Muslims. Because Hungarians are not the equivalent of Muslims. It must have been Muslims and Christians or Hungarians and Ottomans.

because their problems and perception of image is Islam. Do we say Christian, we say Hungary. The first founders of the Hungarians were already of Turkish origin, they were assimilated.

True. To be frank, not even just that we don't have anything against Indonesians (why the heck would we?), but we are pretty much friends with the Turkish as well despite this. It's like, we forgive but never forget.
But technically, the whole thing was kind of a long war between Christian and Islam, so even if it may sound weird, it's definitely not wrong.

much more were lost at mohacs 😀 btw turkish army couldnt be 70k, it was a combined army of grand vizier and governor or rumelia. Sultan didnt attend this campaign and he wasnt leading the army. Thus, around 25 castles of Habsburgs which located deep in Hungary were taken under siege and Eger (Eğri in Turkish) was the only failure.

This one in 1552 was won by the Hungarian defenders. Later in some... 1590 something? ...The Ottomans would eventually succeed in the 2nd siege of Eger (we still have the Minaret under the Castle of Eger standing from that time) but Hungary was never completely lost from the map, far as I'm aware. We held the Ottomans off for enough time that the idiots in Europe, mainly Germany I guess would stop fighting each other over reforms of Christianity and finally put together a crusade to push the invaders back. lol
