An unashamed celebration of really great series of its time or perhaps slightly ahead of its time. First class cast, beautifully shot (on wonderful Super 16mm film!) and pitched and written perfectly for Saturday nights in the late 90"s
What an amazing programme, don't know what made me want to find the intro and listen to that amazing music when I woke up this morning but I'm glad I did!
aww man i cant believe this, ive not seen that in ages, i remember watching this on a saturday night, it was classic, i cant beleieve they never cobntinued it, it was totally awsome.
One of the most under-appreciated shows in it's time, even more so today. What happened to TV theme tunes? This one is second IMO to 999 only. Nowadays, unless the show has been around for over a decade (Eastenders and the like), it appears not to even have a theme tune worthy of the title.
Fantastic show! Used to love watching this on Saturday nights aged 5 followed by Casualty which used to make me squirm at that age but my dad loved it. There seems to be some correlation between this theme tune and The Detectives in some parts - I thought it may have had something to do with the composer but they're two entirely different people! Must just be the classic 90s overdrive sound - either way, love it! :)
Blimey this brings back memories. I remember watching this when I was at school. I liked it when they brought Alex in rather than having Roz as the sole female lead
I loved this show as a teenager every Saturday night. Was gutted when it finished. It was a clever and gripping show to watch with a great cast and amazing theme tune which still makes me feel like a teenager again when I hear it

I loved this show. Shame it does not air anymore. To find it on the net was a real pain in the ass but I managed it, however, there are no subtitles (not even the English ones) :(
The snapshot of the BUGS series actually reminds me a lot in years back 1999, I always used to watch during evening and never liked to miss the thing. I showed high tech stuff and skilled guys at work with well plans. The tech involved in the series is just like future of what we are here today because you could see drones whereby then no such tech was prevailing in consideration with today's environment. I would suggest Jesse Birdsall and his counterparts should come up with something quite like that but unveiling about the future in homo cybercus (whereby everything is controlled by high tech electronics) like robotic or unmanned aircrafts, digital world touring-artificial tour (visiting entire world without physically being there).
I so wish Carnival, Revelation Films and Gavin and Simon Greenaway and Roger Bolton had come together to release a full compiled OST and Score for the show. So many great pieces of music used throughout the shows run that will probably never see the light of day. I still hope that La-La Land Records will one day pick it up but unlikely as the show was probably a UK exclusive and not shown outside of the UK. One can hope though.
Its a shame the BBC have let this age almost 20 years now to the point where in order for Season 4 to ever be resolved there's going to have to be an explanation as to why the original cast are now in their 50s having been kidnapped from the wedding by what is supposed to be Jean Daniel. Would be interesting to see what they could do to address that gap and make it seem plausible. Maybe Jean Daniel kept them imprisoned for twenty years instead of killing them just to make them suffer and suddenly an opportunity to escape arises? Really depends on how well the original cast has aged since 1999.
Gosh, you've reminded me of the ending, I hated it... (I mean, I loved it, but hated how the franchise ended). I'll never forget that frustration of that kidnapping and the end of the franchise...I kept dwelling about it for weeks...to this day it still annoys me...never mind, lol But, for what it is worth, he was a fantastic villain...one of the best in TV history;-)

My fav TV show to date! I was 12, when they played it and loved it. I've got a full DVD set and watched it all over again. Season 1-2-3 were great! They lacked the season 4, in my opinion, in storyline and replacing Ed with different actor. Nothing bad about the actor himself, it wasn't just his character to play, and Craig McLachlan was perfect for the role (my fav out of all of them). If he didn't want to do it anymore, they should've replaced Ed with different character, giving him a good reason to go (without killing him).
I am considering creating a crowdfunding project for a one off revival of this show and I am looking for people who could work on this with me and offer support.
+Richard Harber I would *love* to see more Bugs, but looking at it from an objective stance... the cast are all in their fifties now and the only good reason for a comeback would be to resolve the massive cliffhanger at the end of Series 4. You would either need to do a straight "24 hours later" follow-on and not address the fact that everyone is almost twenty years older, or have a boring "twenty years later" episode where everybody is sitting round a table in a pub talking wistfully about the good old days when they were spies! Be honest, neither would really work - at best, you'd end up with a sad zombie episode - embarassing and cheap, that in years to come would either be a) ridiculed, b) completely forgotten, or c) stain whatever enduring reputation Bugs had forever. (Furthermore, this would cost a bloody fortune even assuming for a moment that you could negotiate the thorny rights issues, convince the cast and surviving writers to return, and set up a production...) Leave Bugs alone. It's finished. It was a product of its time, it was great, and it's over. We will never know what happened after The Enemy Within. Give it up, mate. Enjoy the 40 episodes that got made and be happy. :)
That sums it up perfectly ! But even I twenty years down the line am sometimes still wondering what it would be like to have actual closure of this great series. So if anyone else is game for a revival, I'm in ! :)
