This code has changed. I just put up a second generator and it doesn't list the usage list on both, just the first one. So, that means we need another test seeing if the secondary generator takes over the load when the first one runs out of fuel.
@@KyleMiddleton7 Hallmark of an interesting bundle of mechanics from the game makers (even if it's sometimes counter intuitive). There are plenty of games out there where I'm like "dang I couuuuld run a test on this but I'll leave it to those madlad youtubers" and you sir have commendable work ethic, follow-through, and most importantly the urge to share and make others' lives easier.
Thanks. I use the solar mod as well. A generator, while heavy, is still way more portable than even a quarter loaded battery box, not to mention the panels themselves. Probably still a better bet to power more distant safe houses.
Gave the like because you didn't swing me around and bullshit me for my time, said it right at the beginning. Now I'm commenting and watching the rest of the video just so the algorithm can sukk it so decent people can trend too.
When you mention about a game mechanic , you should write the version number you are testing on, as it can and will be changed in time if it has a defect as it does here.
I wish they add feature that let you automatically activate second generator when first go out of power. Or use like welding skill to upgrade one with a larger gas tank.
The solar mod I am using has a device you make that turns the generator on once your solar battery runs out. I don't know if there is a generator to generator equivalent.
maybe a mod could add external fuel tanks and let you plumb them in to to generators. Some mods also have large generators on trailers, haven't tried them personally yet but i'd assume they have a larger fuel capacity
I use two generators, one running the other ready to start. I find it usefull for maintenance without cutting my fridges for long. Also I get some slack if a horde had moved at the gas station when I come for fuel.
To anyone hoping they changed this. In build 41.78.16 you just consume 2x fuel if you have two generators. Did a quick test today where I left two generators on for 4 hours. Took around 10% of fuel for both. Turned one off and came back 4 hours later. Still 10%.
Can we test if there is some inverse proportional relationship between the amount of generators you have found and the likelihood of finding the "How to Use Generators" magazine? I'm pretty sure once you found your 7th generator it just doesn't spawn the magazine to mock you. You will just find more and more generators instead.
I can definitely relate to this anger. I played in Rosewood and checked every single building in the whole town for that magazine, without finding it. Ended up going on a week long excursion inside of March Ridge *exclusively* to find that book. There was *one* copy in the school library, thank god.
@@BurnBird1 I found 15 generators and 0 magazines. My 200 storage units worth of meat all rotten away and right after I found the first magazine, I found 3 more in the same bookstore.
@@allent.g560you can spawn in a second character (electrician) if you don't mind cheesing the game a bit. I try not to personally but did it once. Also a good idea is using a burglar character to hot wire all the cars in a town. Pretty cheesy but the game does allow multiple characters on the same save
I need a mod that will increase the amout of fuel a generator can have inside it. Its frustraing that my fuel consumption is so high that I run out of fuel in 2 days.
I'm not aware of such a mod, but it seems possible. Another option is to try running less things off the generator. Freezers are notoriously gas hungry.
It would be nice if you could have a switch that "activates" 1 generator after the other has run out of fuel. It is basically impossible to make long loot runs from your main base if there is "perishable" food storage. Currently about 3 days before my 5 refrigerators & 1 cooler, run out of juice. Not mentioning turning off all lights and whatnot. Thanks for the information. All the best. Cheers.
I use a solar mod in my main playthrough, and there is a feature you can add that turns a generator on automatically when the solar battery dies. Seeing as that works, I don't see why someone couldn't make something like that to have a generator turn on another generator.
This doesn't answer if putting two generators is a complete waste or not, do other things happen when they're together? Degrade slower? Are they just powering everything twice?
Shame that you did not expand the video into more than just one experiment, would have been intersting to see other facts or misconceptions about generators
That's one way to look at it. I think this was a common enough question that if I can clear it up for someone in the opening ten seconds, that's a win. I could put a full generator guide on the to do list, but that would be after car maintenance and vanilla firearms.

You beautiful soul. I looked through like 5 threads before looking for a vid and this was perfect
Thanks a bunch. It's surprising how some rather important things are so shrouded in mystery in the pz community.

Great video, these the are kinds of hard hitting PZ questions I crave answers to.
Honestly I’ve only used generators a few times in multiplayer, I mostly use the Immersive Solar Array mod to get my power. Fantastic video mate
Thanks.

1:27 why Total consumption 1.45 if mini fridge use 0.65 and lights 0

"NO"
Thanks have a nice day
honestly 2 generators are only used for if one needs maintenance and you are fixing it the second one provides power so your fridge doesnt turn off

You're right that it didn't check if they degrade slower. Other than that, it does seem like it's just wasting juice.
well shit... guess ill go turn off my 8 generators
