@@ostrichoverlord I think you could drink tainted water straight from rivers and puddles and be fine as long as you didnt put it in a water bottle or similar. But i think that has changed recently
I think it's reasonable that anyone would dislike eating insects more than most other things that can be found in game. It's probably making things unnecessarily complicated

In terms of burnt food, I believe it depends on what type of burnt food you eat. Bacon might not be as dangerous since you only get small amount of nutrition, but I have eaten a burnt streak before on accident (while at 100% health, not sick, no dangerous effects) and die 24 hours later. I'm not sure if they changed that in the recent patch, but I know for sure you can die from eating burnt food so just be cautious.
My character managed to survive four different zombie wounds (3 scratches and 1 laceration) all happening at once, almost bleeding me to death. One was even on my foot, causing running away to be way harder. I survived and just barely clawed my way back to full health, before finding a mushroom, seeing how much hunger it restored, and thinking “this is way better than running all the way back to base just for some hunger.” I was dead within a few hours. Dammit! Lol
I wasn’t really thinking about it, as I usually discard mushrooms when foraging. I wanted to fix my hunger and was feeling too lazy/impatient to actually go back to base and grab some proper food. Lesson learned!
Yeah I have also died eating random things I foraged. I whouldnt recomend it without making sure its safe... Read the book and if you dont trust it dont eat it. Always bring backup snacks😂😂
weak stomach is only a +3 on the traits chart so if it gets worse i’d recommend making it a +4 as its only really killed me twice over 1.2k hours of swearing by its easy free two points
Imo, Weak Stomach should make character vomit if he ate something bad or not fresh. Kinda like how sneezing works, but it should also slow character down.
I don't know if they changed it in recent patches but not too long ago (around when multiplayer got released) I managed to survive food poisoning twice simply by eating MORE food. Being well fed stopped the poison damage ticking down so long as I was resting and not exerting myself, and eventually the poison did wear off. (Learned that after I managed to kill myself from poisonous food twice, that was my main killer in that game lol)
A thing I wanted to add about poison berries and mushrooms. If you eat part of it (ie 1/4th) then you wont die if it's poisoned. The worse thats ever happened to me was me dropping to about 30 health. Best case, barely anything even happened. Just queasy and no health drop.
Puking would be an interesting disadvantage. Having to risk unsafe food to survive is one thing. Having that unsafe food leading to wretching and puking, which are loud and very foul (and strong) smelling would make things much worse if any zombies are nearby to take notice. Very much could be a death sentence if you're not in a depopulated area just from the attraction.
This. The current system is awful. What usually kills people from food or water borne illnesses is loss of calories and fluids from vomiting and diarrhea. Not just dropping dead. Bog stat penalties plus the high increase in food/water/rest needs alone should be the risk of death, not just arbitrary health go down.
If I recall correctly its as it stands weak stomach has the same effects as normal stuff, but it was like you could 2-4 things, before you get sick where as the weak stomach was 1-2, or something like that, though I'm sure with the new items they'll twink and work if it needs it.
Weak stomach should just give you abit of sickness even from stale food (non fresh food that isn't rotten yet). On the topic of food , I really wish there was some sort of nutritional deficiency / Mood effect for eating the same food over and over and over. It would encourage cooking more variety of meals rather than just making the same food forever with no drawback.
either that given sickness should be insignificant and disappear quickly for most types of food or the trait needs to give some extra points it might be +4 or +5 but definitely cannot stand as +3.
I know right? i'ts pretty silly that apparently burnt is the second-most dangerous type of dangerous-food in the game, second only to poison berries/mushrooms themselves, and only becuase of the insta-poison mechanic. 20 hunger of burnt appears to be VERY fatal, wheras 20 hunger of raw meat appears to be VERY surviveable, only going to 60% food poisoning in one of my inital tests. you'd think that burning your food could be a crude way to preserve it with *some* ill effects but fewer than eating full on rotten food, but i'm pretty sure i've eaten entire rotten cabages (24 hunger) and lived before. Though, again, there's a LOT of rng involved. deeper testing could be needed to figure out how much is actually safe. probably a code dive would be best because of how many systems interact her. (note: bleach fills a whopping 99 thirst to kill you, but apparently even THAT can be survived with the right traits/well fed/sleeping through as much of it as you can)
Hey there, I have a request! The wiki says that characters with the resilient trait have 45% chance to get a cold, and outdoorsman has 10%, my doubt is: if you take both traits, do these percentages stack together in some way or does one take preference over the other? (if they even actually work, since your incospicuous video who knows if these things have any effect after all)
When you say certain death, you mean the sickness will max out forever? There's no way to heal through it by eating good food and sleeping to recover health?
@@Retanaru Faster than the health regen? Because with sleeping pills and stacks of food I spent several days in bed after getting bitten. I'd imagine if the berry sickness only lasted say a week you could pull a desperate save.
I thiiiink if you hit 100% food poisoning you just straight up *die* no matter what, though my own testing has been limited. I might try giving a test character horrific food poisoning and then using debug to keep them asleep for a nice long time. However, ONE berry is always surviveable...probably. I think. Testing was a touch limited due to the limitations of debug mode's item spawning not letting me make larger-hunger poison berries to test with. With a catch: your stomach needs to be truly, utterly, completely empty of any food poisoning hiding in your system, and not JUST the moodle gone. You have as little as 10% of your bar still sneakily filled, and that potential 75 percent instapoison PLUS the 15% or so food-poison over time can kill you. SO basically if you're desperate enough to eat poison berries to supplement your diet, eat at most half of one then wait at least 6 hours, and at least another 6 hours if you see the nauseous moodle pop up. just in case.
One time I died from test eating the rotten hamburger patty that I purposely burnt to see if it got rid of the rotten status. It did but it seems I forgot eating burnt food was a no no.
I test unknown berries or shrooms by eating 1/4 and it shows nausea after some time (it's not instant, be careful) when I haven't found poison/nonpoison herb book. Ate about 3 things that made my char sick and didn't kill him so I'd say it's ok. (playing on 41.71)
I've yet to die from JUST one poison berry...with some preliminary testing. Poison berries, when eaten whole, apply an INSTANT 25, 50, or 75% food poisoning to you, PLUS an additional 10-16% or so food poisoning over time...WHEN they're the 10-hunger type of poison berry spawned in via console on this specific save i've been using for testing. You hit 100% poison, you die. GENERALLY SPEAKING, the poison-over-time of a dangerous food is in proportion to the hunger filled, but different TYPES of danger seem to have different amounts of poison per hunger, with weirdly burnt food seeming to be the worst offender. BUT there's three catches i've noticed to my testing already: 1.EVen by my testing, it can SEEM like one poison berry can kill you because there's VERY little margin for error if you have any, and i mean ANY, food poisoning left hiding ln your system. (like...10-15% of your food poison meter still has stuff in it)-and it takes a LONG time for that poison meter to fully clear after the moodle dissapears. 2. Larger poisonous berries (such as those obtained at high foraging skills) may have a larger pool of *additional* poison in proportion to the hunger filled, but i have not tested this. Same might be why mushrooms can be so fatal, if they have the same insta-75% poison effect plus their larger poison-over-time mechanic due to their larger hunger value. 3. There *may* be extremes of rng that could turn an otherwise "you'll live but wish you hadn't" ten-hunger poison berry into a fatal berry if eaten all at once. however, eating it half at a time, and waiting for the poison to be COMPLETELY gone (probably 3-6 hours after the moodle vanishes completely) appears to be completely safe. 4. who knows if the different types of poison berry can potentially have subtly different mechanics? i sure don't...
Any chance you can do a debug analysis of sound priority? E.g if a car alarm is going off, and then you fire a gun from another nearby location, will they switch to the gun, or stay on the car alarm? Similarly, if you make multiple gun shots but keep moving your position, do zombies keep following the new sound, or the old one?
It whould be cool if they added that your character can trow up/puke. This will slow you down or even stop you. If you trow up you lose 33% of your water. And you lose 66% of your food. Now if they make it so weak stomach has a higher chance to make you trow up(like 0.25% when eating) and a rare chance if you are to long nearby dead zombies. Also if you eat a lot in a short time (going from hungry to well fed) you have a chance to trow up. If you dont have weak stomach or irongut the chances are lowered. And with iron gut you never trow up. This whould nerf weak stomach since everytime you eat you have a 0.25% chance of trowing up. Weak stomach is just free points. If you dont eat rotten food and never random foraging stuff you will almost never get sick from it. Its so easy to avoid. With these they sort of nerf it. and it whould be funny if you eat and you trow up while fighting a zombie and then they bite you...
I ate burnt food. 4 burnt fishes And then my health starts going down, 5 lemon grass, vitamin and anti biotics didn't save me Trait: Prone to illness Weak stomach
4 burnt fishes? ooof. you can only "safely" eat 10 or so hunger of burnt food every 12 or so hours. I think rotten food is actually safer per hunger point, weirdly enough, but I've only done so much testing of it.
It's really annoying how they added and buffed all these poisonous attributes to food yet the only option to cure it is lemon grass. They really need to add more accessible herbs and medicine
tbh weak stomach gives not many trait points, whereas thin skinned does. If weak stomach gave a constant negative gameplay effect, it should give much more trait points as well.
Any chance you could explore how multiple generator setups work? Testing it myself it seems two generators will use fuel and maintenance at the same rate a as single one, but looking on Steam and Reddit about half the people swear it cuts down on at least fuel consumption.
using multiple generators gives you the same net fuel drain, but gives you longer between needing to check on the generators to top them up due to the higher total fuel drain rate.
and it's so easy to avoid its problems, plus it doesn't actually help that much over NOT having weak stomach (since it tentatively seems the rng has...more or less the same RANGE of potential poisoning). though more testing might be needd to be sure.
Me and a friend have both died from eating burnt food. I am not sure why, we both had weak stomach and prone to illness if i remember correctly. I would really like to know what causes this to happen because it has made me really paranoid about ruining food.
ALL dangerous foods add some amount of delayed food poisoning, and burnt food is a dangerous food type, but not one well advertized as such by the game. There's...SEVERAL layers of buffer between the poison and the damage, PLUS some RNG tossed in, PLUS the obfuscation of it being not immediately clear if the amount of poison is at ALL dependent on the specific food or if it's ONLY determined based on the amount of hunger filled. AND there's a buffer that you can't even SEE even in debug mode.(Aside from poisonous berries/mushrooms, which have an additional 25%, 50%, or 75% instant filling of your food sickness meter on TOP of the more gradual poisoning from being a dangerous food. Which means you can easily die to "it was just one berry!" if you have even a tiny bit of food poisoning left in your stomach, or if it turns out poison berries can potentially instantly hit you with 100% poison if you gulp the whole thing all at once...or if it turns out a BIG poison berry can instantly give you 75% poisoning PLUS another 25% delayed poisoning if it's big enough.) ...anyways, from some preliminary testing: NEVER try to eat 20 hunger worth of burnt food in one go. Even 10 hunger at once is probably pushing it, due to the incredible amount of RNG involved and the limited amount of testing i've done. Wait AT LEAST 12 hours for your stomach to fully clear between servings of dangerous foods, and NEVER eat whole poisonous berries if you even SUSPECT you MIGHT have a
It was always like this. The tainted water in a bottle would kill you while the puddles/river/ponds only made you sick. Now at least with my brief testing bottled tainted water does not kill you, or only has a low chance to if you only drink it once.
The only thing killing me in this game is the bad aiming with melee weapon. Also i lost my 1 month world because i accidentally double clicked a poisonous berry. GG
The new changes are nice but sickness still feels very black and white, you either die or you don't, no gameplay altering status ailments. The fact that eating burnt food or a small amount of a toxic food will just kill you also peaves me. Burnt food and certain toxic food in small doses should make you feel unwell or queasy at worst with maybe causing status effects and nothing more.
Lemongrass only works once while sick, really? It used to be unlimited (and I'm guessing you knew this). When did it change? I haven't needed-to nor cared-to eat anything poisonous since multiplayer came out, so I don't know how old that might be. Also how does it measure "while sick"? I guess as long as sickness stays above 0? Because with careful control of consumption or of staying near corpses, one could stay sick indefinitely.
I don't know when it changed because I never saw it in the patch notes. I also agree about being about to keep sickness going for very long. Definitely possible to get screwed over.
I know right? I've got a whopping 9 foraging. i've gotten two scrap metal, some clothing, iirc a knife, a plastic pipe...but not a single lemongrass. granted one of my mods could be skewing the odds a ton, but still...
That's really dumb that they made raw fish bad, assuming the fish was alive and bot super badly infected with something all fresh water fish is safe to consume raw

i will never understand how burnt food will make you sick... it should do nothing besides give you half the stats perfectly cooked food does.. not make you sick.. I've never eaten burnt food that made me sick haha
@@Serena-or7sl That's more of an issue of 'food is inedible' than 'food makes you sick' Otherwise you should be able to eat twigs, rocks, and screwdrivers ingame as well...
While I do agree that thin-skinned is too good and thick-skinned is too bad, it's not just due to the fact that it's _possible_ to get infected either way, but that the chances hardly change with the traits. Maybe if i _halved/doubled_ chances these would be more impactful (and balanced? although balance depends mostly on point cost), but around 10% or whatever it is now is trash.
The game is very over severe with and water borne illness. Unless you're eating something absolutely rancid or raw and unclean, you're unlikely to get severely ill. And even if you do, its unlikely it'll kill you. Drinking water straight from a river is very unlikely to kill you. If this stuff was a toxic as the game makes it out to be, animals wouldn't be alive. The game should focus more on chances to get sick with stat penalties rather than just death. You, of course, should still have a chance to get dysentery and die or whatever but it should be fairly low. Also getting anything other slightly queasy from burnt food is just straight up dumb and bad game design.
Also, you can't craft a fruit salad with any poison berries and expect it to ignore the poisonous effects anymore. I had to discover that change the hard way.

Any chance you could explore how multiple generator setups work? Testing it myself it seems two generators will use fuel and maintenance at the same rate a as single one, but looking on Steam and Reddit about half the people swear it cuts down on at least fuel consumption.
My trick is 2 generators so I can swap them out for repairs/refueling
@@JamesTwice Fridges keep the cold for a good 10 IRL minutes, you have time
using multiple generators gives you the same net fuel drain, but gives you longer between needing to check on the generators to top them up due to the higher total fuel drain rate.
@Retanaru someone in a previous video commented that backpacks made noise, is this true?
Who eats poison in this game? There are enough cans of food to last a century
If you play sandbox with extremely rare loot or CDDA, it can take a while to get enough loot to not to be constantly on the edge of starving
👍👍💜
2:01 wow there's a zombie. How did a zombie get there? That area is so clear.
unless they will add bad symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea weak stomach will never be as nasty as it could be
and it's so easy to avoid its problems, plus it doesn't actually help that much over NOT having weak stomach (since it tentatively seems the rng has...more or less the same RANGE of potential poisoning). though more testing might be needd to be sure.
Burnt food requires eating several pieces before you die. I was killed by two porkchops. ;p
What is the outro music?
And what about Iron Gut? For wilderness playthroughs I took it but I never really got to try it for obvious reasons, I just took it 'just incase'
Hey, could you find out how loud sneezes/coughs are? They seem to be really, really loud, like louder than the m36 revolver.
I died by eating a burnt hamburger patty.
😩💙
Which means you can easily die to "it was just one berry!" if you have even a tiny bit of food poisoning left in your stomach, or if it turns out poison berries can potentially instantly hit you with 100% poison if you gulp the whole thing all at once...or if it turns out a BIG poison berry can instantly give you 75% poisoning PLUS another 25% delayed poisoning if it's big enough.)
...anyways, from some preliminary testing: NEVER try to eat 20 hunger worth of burnt food in one go. Even 10 hunger at once is probably pushing it, due to the incredible amount of RNG involved and the limited amount of testing i've done.
Wait AT LEAST 12 hours for your stomach to fully clear between servings of dangerous foods, and NEVER eat whole poisonous berries if you even SUSPECT you MIGHT have a
I ate a poison berry with weak stomach and didn't die. I was so so so close though.
Oh wait, so now tainted water is universally dangerous, not just when put into a bottle? Did they patch that already?
It was always like this. The tainted water in a bottle would kill you while the puddles/river/ponds only made you sick. Now at least with my brief testing bottled tainted water does not kill you, or only has a low chance to if you only drink it once.
what about drinking water and then eating poisonous food? does it stack then?
it looks like it was further tweaked/bug fixed since you made this vid.
So I don't need to find bleach and drink it if I got bitten?
If infections are on you are totally dead if bitten.
I ate a mushroom, nothing help, o Ku death 🤣
75% insta-poison plus something like 1.5 points of poison over time per hunger eaten...yeahhhhhh that easily hits 100% poison
The only thing killing me in this game is the bad aiming with melee weapon. Also i lost my 1 month world because i accidentally double clicked a poisonous berry. GG
I lost my character because I had bleach in my kitchen and unawarely put it into my food… GG it was
The new changes are nice but sickness still feels very black and white, you either die or you don't, no gameplay altering status ailments.
Definitely possible to get screwed over.
this makes foraging a little harder, unless you have medical skill you don't know what berries or mushrooms are poisonous
i didn't realize burnt foods could kill u... my longest survivor just accidentally killed herself by eating 2 burnt sausages :(
Why does fresh fish kill you?
Lemon Grass i never find thos
I know right?
I've got a whopping 9 foraging. i've gotten two scrap metal, some clothing, iirc a knife, a plastic pipe...but not a single lemongrass. granted one of my mods could be skewing the odds a ton, but still...
I think if something like salmon is fresh and found in a fridge, it shouldn't be poisonous
I died from burnt food
hell naw, i ate a red miliapede adn walked it off, not in sandbox
they should give option to make your character throw up
I WILL NOT EAT THE BUGS
I WILL NOT SLEEP ON A POD
Grub
Dude the devs can't even update their EXP and tooltips to be less confusing, you think they'll balance traits? xD
That's really dumb that they made raw fish bad, assuming the fish was alive and bot super badly infected with something all fresh water fish is safe to consume raw
The most dumb way to die in late game with all of your skill are Max is to eat fish that just 10 min away from rotten and when the animation finish it already passed it. Yup I die in my 672 days of surviving zombie apocalypse because the stupid animation of eating.
i will never understand how burnt food will make you sick... it should do nothing besides give you half the stats perfectly cooked food does.. not make you sick.. I've never eaten burnt food that made me sick haha
Consider it as completely carbonized food. An entire burned steak would cause some troubles even in real life
@@Serena-or7sl
That's more of an issue of 'food is inedible' than 'food makes you sick'
Otherwise you should be able to eat twigs, rocks, and screwdrivers ingame as well...
While I do agree that thin-skinned is too good and thick-skinned is too bad, it's not just due to the fact that it's _possible_ to get infected either way, but that the chances hardly change with the traits. Maybe if i _halved/doubled_ chances these would be more impactful (and balanced? although balance depends mostly on point cost), but around 10% or whatever it is now is trash.
... raw fish ... makes you sick... devs wtf
Also getting anything other slightly queasy from burnt food is just straight up dumb and bad game design.
boooo cant eat worms
I ate 2 pieces of burnt pizza. Dead in 5minutes real time. HA!
Mushrooms spiked my heart rate and caused the sweats. Was already Ill and tired and it caught me on a good run that was forage heavy.
