To be honest zombies should press up against the fence if they see you and destroy it if the horde is big enough. Imagine setting up fence duty for npcs like in walking dead
Also objects taking small damage over time isn't realistic... Try punching a chain fence every 5 seconds, the impact is redistributed and the damage is negated. So maybe all structures has damage threshold where it only starts taking damage after a threshold is reached, like 20 bodies shoving a fence. As well, zombies needs to be able to damage other zombies when swarming, causing the rest behind to fall over.

Thats a bug, thats literally bug my man,if you wanna fuck the shit out of the game bugging it out every 10 seconds and then call it "tips" i advice you to just download a cheat mod so you dont have to cry because devs patch your "tips"
There's two bugs here, the broken pathfinding that doesn't allow them to walk up to the fence in the first place, and the broken pathfinding that makes them think they can path through the fence when you put an object next to it. Both should be fixed imo. Stabbing through fences is intended.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ! Its a shame i never was the spear guy just used the crowbar till findin a machate then use it for the rest of the game with the spear repair exploit
The only reason they can't destroy chainlink fences is because they're part of the map itself. Zombies can only destroy doors, windows, and player made structures. Otherwise they would rip down half the city before you could even loot it.
@@arutemisemtrai9769 But crawlers can destroy fences easy, which is weird as hell considering they're weaker than regular walking zombies. They're the only ones that can destroy fences too.
@@arutemisemtrai9769 They already have conditional settings that Zombies can only damage doors/windows after they've directly detected a player character. It'd be totally fine for them to destroy vanilla construction with that. Once a couple of holes are made, the pathfinding of other zombies should see the viable route that doesn't require going through a wall/fence and thus not destroy more of them. So there'd be holes here and there as you attracted zombies but its not like the entire ground level would be leveled.
@@MrBCJACK The pathfinding should, but it does not. Its been a while since I've messed with it but IIRC the pathfinding is only optimal when a player is involved, the issue is random wandering when the AI is displacing/dispersing zombies, they take the straightest route and do not funnel or check for gaps even with highest navigation. If you want a decent example of this, there's a setting that allows them to actively engage constructions in the game (just doors and windows), within two or three days, nearly every window and door across the city will be broken just because while the AI was shuffling them around they made contact with a door/window and immediately latched onto it, once that's done AI the only path is through this door even if another zombie breaks a window right beside them, unless a player pulls them away. They absolutely would all but shred entire houses down, especially if they trigger a burglar alarm.
Eh, someday TIS will make it so that zombies will stick their arms through the fence and scratch you, and eventually collapse the fence, instead of having the zeds walk around it which is kind of weird. Myself, i discovered this little exploit myself when i was placing an old stove by my farm while zeds roamed around the prebuilt tall fence, i placed the stove by the fence and they all clumped up in there, eureka moment for me, wiped them all out with a shotgun, free aiming skills and they finally somewhat behaved like a zed would for once. I kind of feel like putting solid objects all around a fence like that just to see the zeds gather up.
I don't really think this an exploit, more so "fixing" an existing bug. Zombies are dumb, them just standing still when they don't know how to get in rather than uselessly pressing themselves against the fence makes no sense to me. You're telling me zombies ain't even gonna try to eat me?
I dont really think you have enough ıQ or game or realizm knowledge to find out whats a bug, exploit or whats not, fences are not invulnerable things,if a person,or a group is really mad and just wants to pass the fence somehow they first try to climb it if they cant succeed they start to attack the fence, and eventually they are gonna make a hole in the fence or bend the irons that are holding them,or make the roots of iron come out of the dirt completely,if yoy dont care about injuries, bleeding and you sense 0 pain then you can smash down fences with your bare hands or crack open the doors by punching the door over and over again even if it takes so much time and probably the meat layer on your hands, they cant break it not because they are supposed to,but because long fences are actually part of the map so zombies see them as a wall, thats the reason they cant spot you behind them but come anyways when they hear a sound,go outside a little, touch grass, see how real life works.Seriously dude.
@@manapotu6623 Thanks for explaining how a fence works (and doors, very cool). I'm waiting for your "what is a window?" tutorial still. The way it should function is zombies press against the fence in an attempt to attack the living, then the weight of them pressing on and pushing into the fence causes damage to the fence (or barring that simply attack the fences as they do other obstacles). The current behavior makes no sense in that zombies should be able to see you, calculate that they are in a video game where fences above a certain height are insurmountable, and then decide to simply wait until they have a better opportunity to consume the flesh of the living where they aren't tactically disadvantaged.
