He is still just as irritating/off-putting, but our society says that being drunk or hyped up on coffee makes these same behaviors acceptable and should be excused from real consequence or judgement. Inappropriate/off-putting/annoying behavior/language = "Oh he's just drunk",or "He's just had a lot of coffee".
And tripping on energy drink and eventually crashing. In his defense he was also sleep deprived that time, so that might have been why he was hallucinating.

The scene when Sheldon is bonding with Bernadette's dad is quite a touching one as he never got the chance to have any time with his own father as an adult. The two of them would have got on well had not been dead for so may years due to the writters habbit of giving some folk missing parents in one way or another.
Good thing they kept Sheldon drinking to a minimum. Made it so much more special when it first happened and it never got old ^^
