Your channel brings so much positivity to my life. I recently had to have an emergency surgery and have been down as I am an active happy career person, and it’s shown me how hard it is for me to relax. Watching your videos is something I can do while taking care of myself and it truly
    Has helped! ❤️

To be honest, I DID get some good talking points from it. However, it (and maybe because I'm in my mid-life era) seemed like a healthy dose of "Well, duh!!" I found it a little sad that we as women need to be reminded of all of these things. That said, we also need to embrace all generations of women and seek out friendships and relationships that defy age and race and faith (I'm not a Christian, but wasn't offended by how she handled it).
One thing I do hate is the appropriation of the word "tribe." It's everywhere, but I still don't like it and never will. Why can't we just have circles of friends anymore?
I love the quote, "Someone else's opinion of you is NONE of your business," because it is so true! That one thing resonated so much with me. It may be the only thing that did.
The chapter on her brother was so powerful. All about loss and dealing with the grief we all go through; it may not be the same, but for each of us, our loss is that thing that can haunt us for the rest of our lives.
Her chapter about weight made me seriously side eye her. I'm a health food chef, so I kinda get it; but then I have also been obese for most of my life. I've recently lost SEVENTY pounds, but I am still the same person. My value or worth hasn't changed because my size did. I still have MS, I still struggle daily. But I don't think this chapter really helps her to connect with any of us who battle weight issues or any kind of eating disorders.
Overall, I think it was probably pretty revelatory for the late twenty, early thirty-something, upper middle class type of woman. It was harder to relate to her coming from my personal background having been an obese, bi-racial, single mom, working multiple jobs to make ends meet, struggling to even get to one of my son's ballgames between jobs so I can see my kids before they went to bed! The writing was well done, but I had a hard time connecting with much of her perspective. Not a bad book, but not one I would ever call life changing in the least.
I AM looking very forward to the next book we read!! Thanks so much for starting this, Charlotte!! Loving it!!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!! I totally agree on all your points. And that is very interesting about the use of "tribe"...I hadn't noticed that but it will probably start driving me crazy now. So glad you are in for the book club, love! xoxoxo

I’ve seen her podcast and this book being advertised a lot recently so I’m glad you touched on it. What really resonated with me was the chapter about needing to make herself smaller. I completely agree and my stomach did “the thing” when you spoke about it. We absolutely do go out of our way sometimes at horrible costs. Another GREAT video... I can’t even express to you how great full I am that I found your channel. I find you SO inspiring and motivating. (Love the nail color!!!) 💕

Charlotte, I have heard/read reviews about this book from several others. It didn't seem like a book I would be interested in reading. After hearing your interpretation of your take away points, this is now a must read for me. I got caught up in other peoples opinions of the book and forgot that I myself might see it in another light. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us here on YT.

Charlotte! Thank you once again for inspiring us, your subscribers! And thank soooo much for sharing this book review! The author, Rachel Hollis, is very much an inspiration. Her humility and willingness to be vulnerable, I find, is empowering to women of all ages, shapes, sizes, faiths, and non-faiths. She has some great videos here on RUclips too.

I liked the book a lot. There were several examples that were helpful, but perhaps for someone younger than me. I recommended it to my daughter to read and she loved it. I too much stunned about her marriage to someone who treated her so poorly. It does show that they were both able to be humbled by their behavior and early relationship. Many of us are dumb in how we treat ourselves or allow others to treat us. I was also surprised how much she shared about her parents and wondered what they thought of it. Overall it was a great read, or rather listen since I used audible. I liked her vulnerability and willingness to share her life with others.

Thought the book was fun, but I agree, it wasn't life changing. I also thought the story about her experience after the first year with her husband was a little scary, because most women who have a similar experience, but yet, in most cases, abusive relationships tend to get worse, not better. Also, love the idea of not breaking commitments to ourselves.

You're so on point, Charlotte! I feel like there are "self-help" books and then there are "personal development" books. This was definitely written from a self-help perspective and great for someone struggling emotionally. But I much prefer a personal development book that gives more actionable steps to achieving a goal or bettering myself. Glad I read it, but not something I will read again. Great review!

I loved the book! I didn’t know Rachel Hollis before reading the book, but I loved it. I now listen to her podcast and can’t wait for her new book to come out. I’m a follower and believer of Christ and not afraid to say it. We are not supposed to deny Christ, the world has made it this way. The chapters on children was good, my children are grown now, but a lot of things she wrote about I felt and did. My favorite part was when she talked about the kid on the airplane. Screaming and she felt the Mom wasn’t doing anything, but instead of downing the mom she should have helped. I agree we as a women community or just human community we need to help each other. She was also funny, when she mentioned she too shave’s her toe knuckles. Thanks for suggesting this book even though it wasn’t t about makeup like you thought.
