What that lady Ingrid did was one of the kindest and bravest acts I've heard in a true crime case from a member of the public.
When Eleanor talked about what Ingrid did I started crying. She risked her own life to preserve the dignity of the body of a man who'd been so brutalised. I strongly believe that if it wasn't for her they wouldn't have hesitated to mutilate Lee's body even further. This case is heartbreaking.

@Rachiie I mean imagine if that was your child. Would you want someone to be desecrating their corpse? No, you wouldn't. I understand if YOU wouldn't risk your life to preserve someone's dignity by keeping them from further desecrating a corpse. I truly do understand, that is valid. They are already dead and by doing so you could end up with TWO bodies, it's a valid point. However, it's incredibly brave and respectable to risk your life to protect the dignity of someone's body, especially when they are no longer capable of doing so themself. I'd like to say that I'd do the same as her, however I really can't say without being in that situation.
While it is understandable and valid to not do so yourself, at the same time it ISN'T okay to act like what she did wasn't an incredibly brave and honorable thing to do.

As a Muslim Saudi woman, I’m so ashamed of cases like this. It’s so saddening that young people like them would choose to convert to an EXTREMIST and LUNATIC groups like this. Those same groups bombed malls and mosques here, they even got to the point of killing their OWN FAMILIES. I’ve lost 2 of my relatives to those terrorist attacks. I’m deeply heartbroken for Lee’s family especially his son who wouldn’t get to see his dad. May he rest in peace..

Guess it's a combination of tight security and lack of propper "guidance". They are not "weak" as they are blindly loyal enough to be prepared to kill and die for their beliefs (ret*rd*d... but still...), they just don't have a leader with political and sociological knowledge telling them who to hit to give devastating blows to government and get "rep points" and how to do propper propaganda to make the people not have such a bad idea of them. They are basically the same as internet right wingers, assert dominance by randomly killing small fish while high on doctrines.

You Eleanor Neale, are by far one of my fave true crime RUclipsr’s. I admire the level of respect you give to your cases & the respect you have for all humankind.
I being a disabled Muslim women, who uses a walking stick would have shielded this innocent man from these animals. I would have loved to be there to defend innocent Lee Rigby with my stick & tell those animals that this is not Islam & they should be ashamed of calling themselves Muslims.

Truly heartbreaking because of how senseless this crime was. My heart breaks for this young man in the prime of his life that died just because he existed. You also handled the subject matter and the religious aspect of this with such poise, consideration and heart. We can tell how this case affected you and that you are invested in helping to stop stereotypes and hate.
I was a teenager when this happened and of muslim background. Like any normal person I was horrified when finding out what happened, but an uneasiness settled in when we found out it was done in the name of our religion. There is always a collective guilt the Muslim community are made to feel when it comes to these attacks, and no matter how much we try to explain how extremism is not a part of our religion, and how it affects us negatively too - we are always expected to condemn, as if it is a part of us.
When Islamophobia increased over the years due to similar incidents, my family always told us to not appear visibly Muslim; I wish people realised that those who are actually practicing the faith, just want to live peacefully.
Thank you for raising awareness on the impact this had on our community, and may Lee Rigby rest in peace.

It’s sad, but unfortunately it’s really difficult to disassociate from a crime committed in the name of religion. For christians its the KKK and bigoted cults , for muslims its people like these and other organisations, for hindus it’s RSS etc .
When extremists lean on religion as the reason of an attack , it becomes difficult for normal people in the religion as all eyes are on them.
Really people can be very evil period and they hide behind anything to justify their evil. There was people in a vampire cult that killed people because they was evil. Even people that don’t believe in a God murder someone just to know how it feels to murder someone. Evil come in all races, backgrounds, sex, beliefs and ages the human nature can be very wicked at its core. That the main reason why you put do trust in man period.

I'm so sorry! I couldn't imagine your situation. As a Christian white female it make me literally sick when white Christian are racist or use God to spread hate. It makes us all look terrible. This is an example of a time where “an eye for an eye” does not work out. Yes, the British army did unspeakable crimes, yes, these terrorists then enacted an unspeakable crime against a British soldier. Did it help the victims of the British army? No. Did it help Iraq? No. Did it help Muslims? No. In fact, it made things worse for them. It didn’t even succeed in highlighting what was wrong with the British army, if anything it distracted from it. There are so many ways that they could have brought attention to the cruelty of the British army and the war, but instead they needlessly took a life. It’s horrible. Rest in peace.

@@knottedtwig3289 jihad means struggle or effort in arabic. So its easy to leave jihad in there without translating, because people just think this means holy war. What it refers to is the personal struggle muslims go thru while trying to abide by the rules, as that is not always easy - like fasting in ramadan in the heat for example etc.
Most decent and thinking people know the difference. I live in the US and although I’m not Muslim I am African American and I know what it’s like to have the majority of people assume things about you. I often find myself explaining to people the difference between religion & extremism. We have Christian extremists here…they often made up of hate groups like the KKK and ones like it. But no one ever blames religion when the hate and violence is committed with white hands. But it’s very easy for most to blame this extremist behavior on religion when the religion is Muslim.
So I agree with you. I appreciate how she always takes the time to clarify these details for viewers.

As an American it’s sad that police here don’t even consider this as a possibility. Well done for those police for securing the situation and protecting the people from further harm. Such a brutal case. Eleanor, you did a great job as always telling this story.

@@johnsbananashawol7054 It's actually greatly overblown. Look at how many interactions police have with people in the US, and how often they end badly.
Do bad cops exist? Yeah. We have over 300 million people, of course you'll find bad cops. Do incidents happen sometimes? Sure. But it's EXTREMELY RARE. There are plenty of cases where police go extremely out of their way to subdue suspects rather than kill. I just saw one where the suspect was literally eating another person and they still fought and subdued him instead of killing.
Most shootings occur because someone is fighting/resisting and they're a threat. Like if you're threatening to get a weapon and run off with children while fighting the police, they're going to shoot you. They're not going to let you drive away armed with children you may murder (just one of the cases people usually misrepresent). Otherwise, normal people here don't expect to be shot, which is why they call the police. It's also why you see people who complain about the police get in their faces and harass them - they know the police they're complaining about aren't going to shoot them. If they were in another country they sure as hell wouldn't be so brave.
This event is so distressing and shameful. The judge's statement that this was a betrayal of their religion is exactly what I was thinking throughout the video. Violent, hateful, murderous people who."hide" behind religion are disgusting. It is also shameful that some people "took revenge" against members of an entire religion. Such a sad, twisted murder that took a young man's life and led to further violence. From ancient times to the present there have been atrocities committed in the name of practically all religions by extremists, by individuals and in groups . . . I am admittedly uninformed regarding ALL religions, but I do feel these horrendous acts are against the teachings of religion of any type and therefore are sins, no matter the God each individual professes to worship. The men in this case behaved dishonorably and despicably. Thank you for your delivery and explanation of this case, it really got me thinking and researching the beliefs of of other religions outside my own Christianity. Keep up the good work!

Thats kind of BS. As someone who has taken the time to read the Quran, its an extremely hateful book towards non-believers in Allah. Some of the very first lines are about non-believers being less than human. All religion is disgusting but Islam is actually evil. Not Muslims mind you, they are people who deserve love and respect. The religious text is fairly disgusting though.

@Konstantin Dahlin There are ways to seek peace and let go without forgiving your abuser. It is not necessary and just like people can choose to forgive, they can also choose not to. It's up to the individual, and that's exactly what op was trying to convey, which you seemingly misunderstood.
I agree with this so much. I used to be in an extremely abusive and violent relationship, and I don't forgive him for shit. I've accepted what happened to me, I'm moving on fantastically with life. But forgiving isn't going to help me grow.
And it's the same here - more so. . I would never forgive anyone who hurt or killed my son.
Forgiveness is for things like being called names or being ignored, not forgiving those things could be called petty. Not forgiving the murderer of a loved one is more than justified.
@Konstantin Dahlin yes, but it’s not NECESSARY. Some people genuinely don’t deserve forgiveness, it doesn’t mean the victim hasn’t moved on or found peace, it just means they don’t forgive that person for what they’ve done, which is understandable. Not forgiving someone for what they’ve done to you doesn’t mean you’re gonna stay bitter and resentful for the rest of your life, which is what a lot of people think.
Why the constant misinformation that every single difference of opinion has to be attributable to some made up generational ideology. Is this not just another way to divide and spread resentment? Much like the attempts to spread resentments amongst differing religious groups. I think it's long past the time that this destructive narrative stopped .

Wanted to say pretty much the same thing. I really respect elenor for being so educated on issues like minorities, religion etc. Literally no muslim i know supports extremist views and i live in a muslim country and am a muslim myself.

I was in the army in 2013 and, when this happened, we were all banned from wearing/using military kit outside of work because it made us targets. We wasn't allowed to use the issued bags when we travelled home, we wasnt allowed to wear kit when leaving camp to get lunch etc. Anything that could identify us as military outside of camp was banned.

I mean religion is quite a personal thing though, there are so many different interpretations and people find ways to ignore parts of it they dislike and emphasize the things they do like. Every religion has different groups within that religion and they will all argue with each other on what is really the correct beliefs and practices, soo like they can def do it in the name of religion and be correct about it since like religion is how you personally interpret it to be, so it is their own personal interpretation of that religion. Like for example my religious friends don't deny that people commit hate crimes against gay people because of their religion, they acknowledge that yeah it is a part of the religion, it's history, teachings and writings, but they interpret the religion differently and emphasize the more peaceful parts.

I’ve noticed some comments about her weight and that is not okay. It’s like people can’t win no matter what. If you’re bigger and don’t want to lose weight people shame you but if you take on a healthier lifestyle and lose weight people question you. Remember this like it was yesterday the kids at school were saying his head was on the pavement and the teachers were saying his head was still attached but barely. It was the talk of the school for around 2 days. Multiple pictures showing the man wielding the machete and the blurred out image of Lee

They attempted to behead him but were not successful. The school right by the scene was placed into lockdown until the scene was under control and parents were going crazy with worry that this was happening literally yards away from the school. It was a horrible day

What’s most jarring about this case is when someone’s in the army, you wait for something bad to happen when deployed. When they’re home, you think they’re safe and out of danger 🤔

I remember when this happened. The BBC news handled it badly without warning to those watching they broadcasted the video of the murderer with the murder weapon in his hand and his hands covered in blood. I was shocked it made me feel sick because you just knew what he had not long done.
remember seeing this live on the news when i was so young, it was so traumatising. later studied this case at uni doing journalism & they widely discussed how it defo should not have been on the news. pretty sure they showed it on tv at like 4pm as well, shocking
@@annaclark1234 no body make mistakes that bad, with pre-recorded stuff, if it was say a live" broadcast" but even then, there nobody watch what's going out to air?, but what they show recorded a passer-by's mobile phone, some body tool the video, most sent it, BBCs asked for, at any stage, no body asked, check, what they had asked for, and just dumped video clip, live straight to air on the news program, very likely to have happen like that?

When I was a young boy in Indiana, younger than 10 - so over 30 years ago, my Grandpa became missing whilst fishing.
His boat was found on the water, but, no sign of him.
Shortly afterward, mind is fuzzy on details this long later, there was a breaking news break.
Seems they found my Grandfather, dead in the water, from an apparent suicide. With his arms tied behind his back no less.
Anyway, this relates because I'll never forget the news showing my Grandfather's body being taken out of the water.
Still remember the exact outfit he was in.
Needless to say, the truth has never been found in his case.
I remember the reports vividly and they were so explicit. They also did the same when Gaddafi was killed and they also handled the coverage of Grenfell awfully too.
I love how you handled this case.. there’s a very sensitive stigma regarding extremist groups that identify to religions and blame their actions on religious beliefs. You handled it so well and I appreciate you mentioning the hate crimes triggered by the misleading and twisting news reports, it’s truly disgusting. This attack was also disgusting but in no way should be linked to religion as it was a betrayal of their faith as the judge said. Beautifully handled, and again thanks Eleanor xx. I remember this happening. I was on my way from Queen Elizabeth hospital having just given birth 2 days before and taking my baby home. I literally just drove past just before this happened. I walk past that scene every Sunday on my way to church. I have to stop everytime to pay my respects. It was truly shocking and heartbreaking R.I.P

I volunteered at a Help for Heroes store at the time of this attack, where we wore the Help for Heroes hoodies as uniform. When the attack happened we were all told to wear the "uniform" in the store, but to remove it as soon as we left the store and made our journey home. For safety, as they feared follow up attacks could occur.
I remember this case. Stuck with me for weeks and weeks. Even thinking about it now and watching this video makes my skin crawl and I’m almost 21!

Thank you for addressing the fact that so many Muslims suffered as a consequence of this awful murder. As a Muslim and a convert, this had such a negative impact on our communities. I would like to thank you Elenor. I knew lee in life in fact I have photos of him in his army uniform and queens guard uniform. My uncle was stationed with him many time and worked as a beefeater along side him. You did an amazing job at telling this story. You did it so respectfully. I truly appreciate it.
When I heard the trigger warnings I wasn’t sure I wanted to watch this video but I’m so glad I did because the way you explained how this behaviour is not Islamic was beautiful. Thank you for your videos and I hope Lee’s family have found some strength to continue on and keep his memory alive.
I wrote my university dissertation on this and how this attack caused such a surge in islamophobic attacks in the UK. It’s truly awful what happened and i still feel shocked that this took place. This really was such a senseless act that affected Lee, his family, the whole UK and the Muslim community 😕
Similar happened here in NZ after the Christchurch mosque attacks-some people _really_ started showing their true colours….but there was also so much love, I think there was a hundred times more love. For most of us in a first-world white-dominant country, this was our first exposure to islamophobia and terrorism, and it disgusted us. We felt out first bond with the Muslim community who had always been so different from “us”, simply because we did not understand, whether religious or agnostic ourselves. As difficult as it is to see through the hate in tragedies like these, I think this one brought us all closer (in such a small country too-population ~5mil) and introduced us to a culture and religion that had previously seemed so distant and stereotyped, but deserves as much respect as the rest of kiwiana

it’s so kind to see that the footage didnt show the full hit, since they very clearly had the footage. one of my own friends recently died, and the news that recovered the incident didn’t show the aftermath, and it’s so kind to know people don’t intentionally show what happened after.

I remember this all so well. Michael Adebowale’s mother lived near me at the time. I felt so awful for her. As far as everyone knew she was a good woman who hated the direction his life had taken. We also saw from our back bedroom the raid on a flat that we assumed belonged to one of his friends, in the days after the incident. The whole time was scary. Sirens everywhere, not knowing if anyone else was involved or if they too would do anything. It breaks my heart every time that this senseless thing happened.

Remember this like it was yesterday, and this happened when I was 12 years old. I remember coming home from school and hearing all sorts of stories about his head being decapitated or his head being nearly decapitated. He just shook me to the core when I heard that.

This case is absolutely horrific. And it highlights what happens when we exterminate each other hiding behind the excuse of politics and religion. Hate breeds hate. And absolutely innocent people suffer and die as a result. So, so tragic.
Yeah, I remember this happening. I was 13 at the time and was just absolutely horrified. It genuinely was one of the worst things I’d seen. I remember the news showing the attacker covered in blood. Cold blooded murder in the streets in broad daylight. Truly chilling.

I live a little away from where this happened, and I still remember all the police cars flying by our car and my mum wondering aloud what had happened. I was just a kid but I remember that everyone was terrified for weeks afterwards, like my school brought in a bunch of security measures and I remember every day for weeks we were rehearsing what to do if a security alarm went off
The thing that got me the most was all the crap that followed. All the racism, those EDL marches and protests that went on. I remember being in woolwich one one of those days, there were just hoards of bald white men getting off the trains and walking through the square, I was honestly horrified that day as I got so many dirty looks and we all had abuse hurled at us. Ruined the area for absolutely ages.

I’d love to see you do a video on Kristin Smart. She’s a college student who disappeared in 1996 in California and they only charged someone this year. They haven’t found Kristin to my knowledge, but it’s pretty clear that she was buried on a property owned by the defendants for a time and there was never enough to get a warrant. They only recently were able to get access to the property and based on cadaver dogs and radar it looks like there was biological evidence as well as indications the body was moved recently before the search happened in 2021. I’m not sure what evidence prompted them finally obtaining access.
That house was rented out shortly after the murder, with brand new concrete having been added to the back yard. The couple that rented the property kept hearing a watch alarm going off and it was coming from the concrete slab until one day it stopped (presumably due to the battery dying). It was happening at 4 or 4:30 every morning…..which is when she got up to practice swimming. The same couple also found an earring that appeared to be half of a set missing from Kristin’s things. The cops lost the earring.
The tenants weren’t there very long and family of the defendants moved in and kept the cops away for over two decades. I haven’t seen any videos on this one on the crime podcasts I watch and I’d love to see you do one.

i feel so sorry for his family, as theyve had to state time and again, that the islamaphobic and white supremecist groups using his death as an excuse, that lee never stood for any of that.
I remember this all too well as Lee was originally from my home town in Manchester. Plus the fact I was working in an MOD barracks at the time too, I vividly remember all of the soldiers and officers having to arrive and leave in normal clothing, as you stated,to be safe. Even if they were just nipping across the road to the Muslim ran newsagents, they had to either cover up or change.
I have friends that practice the Muslim faith and they have always said that those people do not represent the whole religion. At the time, it wasn't just Muslims that were attacked as Sikhs were targeted as well, just because those attacking didn't know the difference between the faiths. Both are very loving and peaceful at their core and abhors thinks like this.
My dad told that after the attack he saw a verbally abusing and harassing a Muslim family in Argos the kids were upset and scared
I always get so wrapped up in the first parts of your videos and start getting so attached to these people, and then I have that awful realization after a few minutes that they are the victims of the story. Every time.
I was at a concert when one of the London bridge attacks happened. I just remember my dad calling my mum and frantic crying asking if we were all right and if we were safe. It was terrifying because I was barely fourteen at the time. To think that people can do that type of thing to another human being sickens me.
