    Today I'm reviewing the Prismacolor watercolor pencils for my watercolor pencil battle. Now, I'm looking at these from the perspective of an adult colorist, but that doesn't mean you don't need to watch this if you use them for watercolor art. I've covered everything from how they feel dry, how they dissolve, lift, and more so that you can make an informed buying decision.

    There is nothing like getting a new set of pencils. I love colored pencils.

    Glad you did this -- I've been eyeing these for awhile as I'm also a huge Prismacolor fan. I do mostly print out my stuff on various papers so it seems like I'd mostly be covered but so far everything you've said "is no fun to use" in your reviews have lined up with the things I find "no fun to use." So thanks for saving me the money. I'm going to just keep planning to pick up a spendier set.

    Meh… yup ended up donating mine. Glad I only bought the 12 set. But still love my regular prismas!!! Can’t wait to see the winner of this tournament! I’m actually holding off purchasing anymore WC pencil until Kori tells me which ones I need!

    I LOVE my set of these. They’re so creamy laying down and activate like a dream. The only bad thing is the limited colors with only a 36 set. I’d be over the moon if they had a 72 set 😍 I don’t think the paper you tested it on was a good match, they sounded awful laying down.

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic

      I tried a few papers. That said, these are being looked at for adult coloring, so the cardstock I used was one that would be similar to adult coloring books -- I have to mimic the environment as much as I can.

    I don’t have these, and I don’t plan on getting them. I have both Albrecht Durers and Derwent watercolor pencils, and I really like both of those sets, so I don’t feel the need, especially in light of this information. Thanks, Kori❤

      They’re actually a joy to use. I love mine. They’re vibrant & activate with barely any water and they lay down like butter dry.

    Haven't watched yet and I will say, I had these, hated them.
    Going to watch your video now and will edit this after the ending.
    Yep. I'm not surprised by how this one turned out.
    That was my first and only watercolor pencil and I thought I just hated watercolor pencils to begin with and never tried that again. Now I'm learning that it might have been the pencils that put me off.
    But I'm not about to jump into a set of albrecht durers to start out with. Any suggestions?

    Wait......what is the colorless blender from Tombow made of?? I honestly don't use it. Could this blender solve most of my problems with marker and pencil??? I ignored prisma for Faber and Derwent. I...may need to buy the largest prisma and see if this is better than derwent

    • @michellec8125
      @michellec8125 8 месяцев назад

      I agree the color selection is not impressive and fear mixing is what I have to do. The purple is limited and they need more gray. It feels like a landscape/flower set.

      I don't use coloring-books so no idea cardstock was an option. These pencils may only be used for watercolor paper. Maybe 100% cotton. Layering is an issue I had with Faber but found I have to 100% let them dry. Derwent is great so far. Almost no complaints. Blick has them on sale ( 11/19/2023)

      I use the colorless blender from Tombow, which is water-based, because some pencils I prefer to activate with a Tombow in coloring books. I don't use it for non-watercolor pencils.

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  8 месяцев назад

      I tested them on 100% cotton and still had issues.

    • @michellec8125

      @ColorfullyOptimistic ohhh. Bc cardstock can only handle so much water? I've been sleeping on the colorless blender. I test it out over my weekend.
      I don't see folks using Prisma wc pencils on IG. It's always Derwent and Caran d-ache and this must be why. They are cheap af rn on Blick. They must be student-grade or just a bad recipe for a pencil.

    Yeah, I don't like my prisma watercolor pencils either. Have you tried the derwent watercolor pencils? I only have the two sets of watercolor pencils, but I love my derwents in comparison to my prisma watercolors...also coming from someone who loves prisma colored pencils!

    For what seems like an eon ago I started with prismacolor pencils and prismacolor watercolor pencils. However that was back in the Sanford prismacolor days. Yes folks I am that old LOL. I don't know how they ever got lost but they did and I do wish just for nostalgia sake that I still had my prismacolor watercolor pencils. I do of course have the regular ones and the Verithins all the way almost never use those and I rarely use my regular prismas. I think mainly because I have over many years come to love other pencils since I've gone from just coloring to original artwork as well and they come out with so many amazing pencils in my lifetime. I don't have the Albrecht Durer or the museum aquarelle sadly and I would love to have both however I do have a set made by Anna valacci which are wonderful going down wonderful when activated there just a great performing watercolor pencil. Someday I really hope to be able to try the museums and the albrecht's but that will wait until finances allow. They must have changed the formula since the decades ago that I had them because they were not sticky feeling when I had them. Thank you again for another amazing review letting us know that from a watercolor artist perspective and colorists perspective how they feel to you

    • @margwong8416
      @margwong8416 11 месяцев назад

      @ArtandDia...I have the Anna Valacci, too. I really like using them as a dry pencil since I find they don't dissolve very well as a watercolor pencil. I've seen differing opinions about their performance as watercolor pencils. They are such a unique looking pencil also! :) I consider them vintage, too, since it's been about 4 or 5 years since the company in Australia doesn't exist that made them so they can only be found through ebay, etc.

    I felt these were a waste of money. There is not enough pigment in them. They just wash away when water is added.

  • @artwithray

    Let me start by saying I absolutely can't stand Prismacolor. I bought these pencils about 2 years ago and used them maybe 3 times. They in my opinion are terrible. I am a watercolor artist and don't care much for WC pencils, but these were a HUGE waste of time and money for me.
