Thanks!
Thx mate. You are a life saver. This has been doing my head in for days! On my Mac I had to go to Finder - Settings - Sidebar to find the external disk check box. I'll make sure not to 'jiggle it off' my ext drive in the future. lol. All the best.,
Been watching 56 videos and you're the only one who fixed my problem. Genius
YOU SIR ARE AN ICON FOR THIS. Immediate fix after hours of looking for the solution.
Years of owning a MAC I don't know about this till it happens to you. Thank you.
Thank you, it helped to solve my issue
Thank you very much, the only one explaining this issue clearly!!!
Will this apply for windows and hdds too
Extremely thorough. Thank you. I won't remember the steps if this ever happens to me. But I'll be sure to find this video again.
Really appreciate the straight to the point video! thank you!!!!
Thank you straight to the point with the extra troubleshooting at the end of the video. Well made
My dear Pal2Tech is back ❤ Thank you for this fantastic advice.
You're a couple of days late! 😫I just finished spending $150 on yet another EHD...and, yes, I backed up my computer with it yesterday...because my other hard driveS (yes, plural), don't appear. I am saving this video if and when I accidentally improperly disconnect my drive. Thanks for the tips!
None of these steps fixed mine. I can see the external drive, and clicked the mount option but nothing happened.
I was facing the same issue. Try plugging it into a mobile device that uses a different OS (e.g., iPad), and see if you can access the files through there. Try to recover the data from there.
Thanks for this one.
I seem to remember a video that I think was one of yours where a Fuji SD card with no title or something would not show, was that ever fixed?
Thank you, Your a Life Saver ....Just fixed my external hard drive with your Simple Explanation.
Very helpful, Chris. Thanks for sharing this.
Excellent advice.

Welcome aboard!
If a driver or other connected device doesn't appear with a hub, but does appear when connected directly to the computer, then are there any suggestions to fixing this / what hubs will work? Any tips for figuring out if a hub will work well or not?
I haven't yet any issues with external drives not appearing, but my X-H2s does not appear when connected to my USB Hub! However it does appear when connected directly to the Mac. And my X-T3 does appear when connected to the same hub. So I don't know what's wrong there -- camera? Hub? An Intel-Mac specific bit of weirdness?
Do you have a work around for connecting a Theta Z1? It is a complete tough mudder obstacle course trying to get the Raw files off of the camera and on to the Mac pro 😄
Omg!! you saved my life!!! thank you for the tips!!
not me always pulling the cable in out till it appears and thinking this is the way XD
why do you do if the light doesn't turn on your SSD? the adaptor I have connects it to my PC and it turns on and everything just fine but when it comes tk my Mac there's just nothing.
Thank you!!
Hi, thanks for the video. I just want to add into the knowledge base on this topic. If you are unable to find a Direct Access Storage, you might want to try emptying the recycle bin.
I have a 4 bay drive connected via USB and it will take almost 20 mins for the hdd to mount. This seems to be a bug in mac os.
Thanks for the info!
Yes, it is a bug that they haven't fixed yet
it's so frustrating that the disk just doesn't show up and even the disk utility won't show anything
@@kunalchaugule.5843 Yes and recently I cant even get into my DAS because of this bug. Do you have another method?
@fed02 no the recycle bid method woked for me
Maybe try a hard format and also check the file system change it to APFS that might work
Thanks.. but i can't format 10TB of data :(((
I hope this get noticed, but I have a USB dock for my new Mac air m2, the dock lights up but I can't see it on any of the tips you gave here on this video, but a day before like the first time I used this dock, it was flawless, next thing I knew the next day i can't locate the dock in any external.
PS: this is my first time using a MacBook.
1. Command+spacebar… terminal disk list
I have this problem - disk shows fine on Intel PC, not seen in MAC in some cases. I tried everything including what is shown in the video but no luck.
I have a Samsung T5 SSD connected to an older MacBook Pro which I only use occasionally. It tells me my SSD is not connected , even though I leave it connected 24/7. I unplug it ,put the password in again, all good. My newer MacBook Laptop (non pro) has a Samsung SSD T7 connected to the laptop. I had two Anker units that would not allow the connection. Returned both.
Hero! Liked and subscribed. made me laugh as well. Thank you!!
Thanks the jiggle it of that thing helped 🤣🤣
Sometime there are also problems seeing external optical drives connected through third party usb adapters.
How 'bout the write speeds fix? SSD to macbook M1 for instance .... it's drama!
Cant to where the drive shows up at all
interesting... i did this and still nothing. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but i asked a coworker to check on his mac and he saw it just fine... so idk what the issue is... my os is sequoia 15.1.1
from the link: 'The steps to reset NVRAM don't apply to Mac computers with Apple silicon, and aren't needed on those computers.'
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing. So glad I am not at fan of fruit😁
Not working
It's a shame, mac books always have problems with external SSDs...
While I like your video … Please stop circling with the mouse pointer. It is very distracting for many of us.
Thanks for the heads up. Will do! 👍
