Ethanim, the name of the seventh month of the Canaanite calendar corresponding to the later Hebrew Tishri or to our September - October (1 Kings 8:2). The Israelites, like the Orientals in general, followed the lunar month, beginning with the new moon. In Hebrew month is yerah, which means moon, and hodes, which means new moon. The months had alternatively 29 or 30 days. To distinguish the different months the Canaaneans names, which are related to the seasons of the year, were used. In the Bible occur the months Abib, which means green ears of corn, and stood for March-April (Exodus 13:14; Deuteronomy 21:1); Ziv, meaning flower, equivalent of April-May (II Kings 6:1,37); ETHANIM, meaning constant waters, for September -October (1 Kings 8:2) and Bul, which means rain, for October-November (1 Kings 6:38). Towards the end of his stories of Jesus' infancy. Luke describes Mary's remembrance of these events, "And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart (Luke 2:19)." From this indication, Luke thereby revealed Mary as his first eyewitness from the beginning. From her story to Luke, therefore we can derive when Jesus was born. Luke 1:5-9 Luke 1:10-25 The incensing in the Temple indicated a specific feast was being celebrated, the Feast of Tabernacles or Dedication of the Temple. This feast originated from the first dedication of the Temple by King Solomon who timed the dedication with the feast of Booths (in Hebrew Succoth or Sukkot). 1 Kings 8:1-2 All the men of Israel assembled before King Solomon during the festival in the month of Ethanim (the seventh month). In the original Roman calendar this would correspond to the month of September, so that if we calculate the time of the feast, it would have been around September 18-24. Then when Zechariah returned home and Elizabeth conceived, it would have been around September 25. Luke 1:26-38 The time in the story of the Annunciation to Mary and her subsequent conception of Jesus is mentioned twice: in v. 26 "In the sixth month," and in v. 36, "she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month." To determine this date of Mary's conception of the Lord, we simply have to add 6 months to September 25, exactly the date celebrated by the church. September 25 plus 6 months is equal to March 25 (Mary's conception of Jesus). Since Mary conceived Jesus that falls to March 25th, the time for her to have a child is naturally nine months after. All we have to do is simply add these nine months to March 25 so that we can truly say that the day Jesus was born was December 25. "If you believe the Bible, now Share this Gospel Truth."
The observance of Christmas on December 25 was not introduced until 353 A.D. The chief pastor at Rome, Julius I (336-352), had the imperial archives of Rome searched for the exact date of the birth of Christ. A subsequent pastor of Rome, Liberius (352-366), then fixed the celebration of Christmas for December 25. Justin Martyr (died 150 A.D.) writes: “Christ was born in Bethlehem, as may be gathered from the census records.” Another writer, Tertullian (155 or 160-220 or 230 A.D.), testifies that in the census of Augustus the Roman archives have provided the most reliable testimony of the birth of the Savior.
While this is good information indicating that early gentile Christians celebrated December 25th as Jesus birthday, it overlooks the fact that the earliest Christians were Jews who did not use the Roman solar calendar (including December). They used the Jewish lunar calendar for religious holidays. December is a solar month used by the gentiles (Romans, Greeks, etc.) The overlapping Jewish lunar month is Kislev. So if the later gentile Christian's used December 25, the earlier Jewish Christian's would have used Kislev 25th, also known as Hanukkah. The 1st day of Hanukkah would correspond to his birth and the 8th day his circumcision. I see nothing wrong with restoring the original Christmas to Hanukkah. Armenians and Russians celebrate Christmas later in January and in the Netherlands, the feast of St. Nickolaas is celebrated early on Dec 5th.
Privileging Jewish Christian dates over received Gentile Christian dates both divides Church unity back to Paul, committing the same error as the Judaizers, and wrongly gives priority to uncertain speculative history to what is certainly received tradition. It's bad ecclesiology and bad history, and is this unliveable antiquarianism.
He was trying to hard. The actual reason it’s celebrated on the 25th is because it was believed that Jesus was crucified on march 25th the year 33 a.d. nine months later is December 25th. There is another date that was believed and it was Jan 6th by the eastern churches. Which means that they believed Jesus was crucified April 6th or what ever month it was at that time. This was all around 204 a.d.

According to the International Station Meteorological Climate Summary (ISMCS), the average temperature in Bethlehem is 49 Fahrenheit. The average low, that is, 43 Fahrenheit. Therefore it is a mild winter, and not an icy winter, that occurs in Bethlehem during the month of December. John 10:22 says that it was winter during the Feast of Dedication or Feast of the Light. The said feast is celebrated by Jews during the 25th day of Chislev or December (1 Maccabees 5:52); it marks the cleaning of the temple under the Maccabees and re-dedicating it to God and hence, it coincides with Christmas. Harper's Encyclopedia of Bible Life [ (C) 1971, p. 7] explains that what is unique about Israel's weather is that, winter season is NOT the "dead" season when plants die because of low temperature. On the contrary the "dead" season of summer by the intermittent winter rains starting in mid-October and ending in mid-March. According to Jewish law during that period, the sheep that were used for the offerings had to be one-year old sheep that had been outside (out in the field) for 365 days (one year). Since these sheep needed to remain outside, the shepherds were also watching them even during the mild winter in Bethlehem. Winter in Israel means rainy season. You can see this in Luke 2:8. The shepherds of Bethlehem were in charge of raising sheep for the temple sacrifices. During the Passover, the annual celebration of the Hebrew nation's deliverance from captivity in Egypt, one lamb was needed for every household. An estimated 250,000 sheep were needed every year to accommodate the Passover sacrifices and feast. How do you keep that number of animals in your dog cage?

That's just it. There is a good "biblical" argument for why the 25th. I will accept that it can be debated that the Christians piggy-backed Saturnalia and Sol Invictus but the Winter Solstice has been recognized since the Neolithic period over 12,000 years ago. The reality is that the modern Jesus was born at the First Council of Nicaea, between May-Aug of 325 AD under Emporer Constantine. That's why December 25th was not recognized as the birth of Jesus Christ until 333 AD.
I am not understanding the basis for the conclusion that John the Baptist was conceived on/near Yom Kippur. This professor is saying that he believes it was Yom Kippur because Zechariah was in the "Holiest of Holies" which only occurred on Yom Kippur; but there is no basis that I can see for concluding that he was in the Holiest of Holies. The first chapter of Luke merely states that Zechariah was burning incense on the "Altar of Incense" which was located OUTSIDE of the Holiest of Holies. I see nothing that could be used as a significant indication that the angelic visitation occurred on Yom Kippur. If I am missing something please let me know!
The point is ultimately that it doesn't matter so much if he was in the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur, but that there was a very early tradition that that was the case. I think Josephus said that the Christians held that belief. Interestingly there is a 5 or 6 year period where we do not have names of the high priest and those years are right around 6 to 0 BC. In addition, the date of Jesus baptism was know by the apostles to be in early January well before the date of Christmas was set, and it made liturgical sense to put Christmas shortly before that date.
Early Christians celebrated the birth of Christ at this time of year because the Romans were too busy celebrating their pagan holiday to persecute the Christians for celebrating the birth of Christ. John the Baptist and Jesus were cousins. I can't quote chapter and verse but somewhere in the bible I read Mary and Elizabeth greeted each other when they were pregnant and their babies "...leaped in the womb..."

"And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed." (Luke 2:1) Caesar Augustus became the ruler of the Roman Empire in 27 B.C. and ruled until A.D. 4 when he died. This does not narrow the birth of time of Jesus much, but gives important information. Luke 1:5-2 explains, "There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless." (Luke 1:5-6) Luke 1:24 gives tells us that the Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist conceived six months before the Holy Spirit conceived Jesus in Mary. "And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying," (Luke 1:24) This is extremely important in determining the birth of Christ. Zacharias, Elizabeth’s husband was a priest and served in the temple during the "course" of Abia. (ah - bib or a bi ah) This gives us a way to narrow down the birth of Jesus. David divided the priests and Levites into 24 groups of priests and this set the schedule for when the individual priests would serve in the Temple. ( 1 Chron. 28:11-13,19) They then due lots to see when each group of priests to determine when eacj priest would serve in the Temple. (Neh. 10:34) Luke 1:5 says "There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth." The phrase "course of Abia" refers to the group of priests to which Zacharias whom served in the Temple in the month of Sivan (May-June). Historical calculation would put his service in June 13-19. A priest would serve for one week beginning on Saturday the Sabbath. Zacharias probably completed his Temple service the third week of Sivan. Afterward he returned home Elizabeth conceived John the Baptist. This would date around the middle to the end of June. Luke 1:24-27 provided the important detail that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit six months after Elizabeth, Mary’s cousin, conceived. Six months (verse 26) would mean that Jesus was conceived in the Jewish month of Kislev (kiss-leav - Nov-Dec). Hanukkah, called the Feast or Festival of Lights was on Kislev 25th. We cannot be dogmatic about this, but that would seem to be the perfect time for Christ to be conceived as He came as the Light unto the world. "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12) As Elizabeth conceived John’s near the end of June, adding nine months brings us to the end of March as the most likely time for John’s birth. Adding another six months (the difference in ages between John and Jesus according to Luke 1:35-36) this brings us to the end of September as the likely time of Jesus’ birth. Jesus was probably born on 15h of Tishrei (tris he dee - in Hebrew) or (Tris he ray) which was the end of September. Tishrei is the first month of the Jewish year or Ras Hashannah. Yom Kippur , the Day of Atonement, is the 10th day and Sukkot (Su cous) is the 15th Day of the first month called the Feast of Tabernacles. It celebrates the restoration of Israel’s relationship with the Lord after 40 year of wandering in the desert. Sukkot is a time of rejoicing and spiritually corresponds to the joy of knowing your sins are forgiven (during Yom Kippur. It further looks to the coming of the Messiah. Therefore Jesus was clearly not born on December 25th, but near the end of the month of September. If born on Tishrei 15th, it is difficult to pen point the day on the Gregorian calendar month of September, because the Jewish calendar is based on the lunar cycles. Tishri 15th would fall on different days on our Gregorian calendar. The Roman calendar in Christ's day was the Julian calendar, which was changed to the Gregorian calenda

If it is Jesus's Birthday, why is Satan Claus getting all the attention..
Matthew 6:24
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Santa Clause was Saint Nicholas who gave gifts and preached christ

It's all a lie, Saint Nicholas 300AD (Wikipedia) rescued three girls from being forced into prostitution by dropping a sack of gold coins through the window of their house each night for three nights so their father could pay a dowry for each of them.-- "IF" it's even true, it was 1700 years ago..???

Luke 14:
12. Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
13. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
14. And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

“Henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;”

"And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed." (Luke 2:1)
Caesar Augustus became the ruler of the Roman Empire in 27 B.C. and ruled until A.D.
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless." (Luke 1:5-6)
Luke 1:24 gives tells us that the Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist conceived six months before the Holy Spirit conceived Jesus in Mary.
(Neh. 10:34)
Luke 1:5 says "There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth." The phrase "course of Abia" refers to the group of priests to which Zacharias whom served in the Temple in the month of Sivan (May-June).
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12)
As Elizabeth conceived John’s near the end of June, adding nine months brings us to the end of March as the most likely time for John’s birth.
Hahaha.. you start by dec 25... & count backwards to fit in the dec 25...
Dec 25 in not logical, because of the settings of Bethlehem on dec 25.. or dec month..
What settings it’s warm there
So the pagans took the date from the true believers, hmmm and you want us to believe that?!!!!
Who he/she/it, celebrate Christmas is not a real follower of Jesus Christ nor a true Christian.
I've never heard such blatant lies, there are numerous years recorded in the bible after Jesus death, and none of his followers celebrated his birthday.
Jesuschrist was not born on Christmas day is the sun day
Saturnalia is the 18th to 23rd. I'm afraid you can't correlate that with the 25th.
Pagan festival😋
Perhaps the master of deception wants you to think that so that you won’t worship Jesus he is pretty crafty your fooled by him
@Brother Paul No where just like it doesn't say to go on you tube or many other things. But it does say in Romans that if you celebrate a day and it offends someone as long as you do it unto the lord its ok, What you eat may offend someone but if you do it unto the lord its ok. What about the other books of the biblble mentioned in the bible why was they taken away from the bible. Many have bibles with many of these books in them including the KJV 1611, yet all you guys only preach what was left in, I have old bible with many of these books so its not like they were not ever in there . In Luke and Jude they both mention the book of Enoch. Too many false prophets set out to deceive us. Why wouldn't you as a christian want to worship Jesus on the day he was brought into the world? If someone misses your birthday are you upset when they give you a late greeting or a gift. We do know that John the baptist mother was pregnant with him 6 months prior to the angel coming to Mary . DO we know the exact day when Christ was crucified yet we celebrate Easter, actually only Orthodox christians we are the oldest christians in the world follow that good friday cannot be celebrated until the Jews have their passover
@pennycooks are we not to celebrate and give praise to our Savior daily? This day has nothing to do with our King and Savior. May want to rethink this Pagan day. We are to not worship our our Heavenly Father as the pagans do. But in truth and in spirit.
@@miguelbalderas905 Read your bible read about Jesus birth, I don’t know anyone worshiping a tree, to Jews we all are pagan , now these false prophets want us to think worshiping Jesus is wrong look how many are suddenly celebrating Hanukkah, saying how nice it is is to give gifts for 8 days , also not in the bible , you are being deceived
