I enjoy your videos and appreciate you taking the time to make them, but you might want to understand what is happening when you increase air flow to the intake side of the engine. You are more than likely going to be increasing HP, but absolutely not going to achieve an increase in MPG. When you start to allow more air into the engine (through a cold air intake) the mass air flow sensor knows this (and if it is working properly) will increase the fuel being injected to maintain the proper air/fuel ratio the engine requires. This would mean that you will end up with a more potent air/fuel charge in any given combustion, thus more power. If you wanted to have your car get better mileage, you would either reduce the air/fuel going into the engine (reducing power), add a less restrictive exhaust, or a better performing ignition system to make better use of the air/fuel being sucked into the engine. P.S I liked the video because I appreciate you doing what you do. I just wanted to make sure you understand a small part of the engineering that is involved here.
The stock intake bringing cold air into the engine is about as good as it gets. The one you have fitted will allow the air under the hood (at a higher temperature) into the engine. This is not a good idea. It may impress the big-blue-tip-muffler Honda crowd, but is a next-to-worthless modification to a the E39 model. A clean air filter is all that is needed. The cost of that bling thing would be better spent stocking up on headlight adjusters, spare radiator, expansion tank and valve cover gasket. These you will need. I love your videos and your knowledge, but am surprised you considered this modification. If you box it in, the physics get better, but cold air will not "shoot in" as stated, as that air-pump we call an engine, will suck whatever it can get - from wherever it can get it! The intake will require tight sealing and that is exactly what BMW did and bought the air in from outside. Keep posting the good ones please. This proves even the good guys make mistakes sometimes :-)
You dont really save more gas with an open air intake, it gets more air and needs more gas to adjust The Right amount of ingredients for igniting. Its sure healthier for The engine with colder air but its not saving gas at all.
If you decide to change, dont forget your filter is waaaaay lower and unprotected, just remember that ALWAYS; speedbumps, dirt, rain snow, remember!!! Fwiw i love this mod, just clean your filter RELIGIOUSLY
heyy i just installed the same exact intake on my car today and i noticed that my idle seems to fluxuate wile im sitting....do i need to reset my ecu like i seen in your reset ecu video?
No friend this will give you hot air with this aluminum air duct also this will reduce gas Milagros and make black soot in your exhaust tip from experience friend believe me ;)
can someone tell me the part number of the black chip that is under that air filter box, i was driving it at 120 everyday, without the air box, I thought those filters in the in the piece where the filter goes were enough, but the radiator fan blade sucked in that computer chip thing, broke two blades and punctured the radiator, and i cant find it in the internet, i would drive without it but it was important, now my car shuts off in every stop, i have two keep the car moving or it shuts off, and it seems it can only be found by part number, i can't find it.
Have you ever taken off the "muffler" which is the black box attached to the bottom of the intake boot after the MAF? I would like to have a solid boot without the hole for the black box and only the small vacuum connection on top. Is there such a thing available?
Hey man been watching your videos I have an 528i station wagon and it needs some work I was wondering if you can help me out with this check engine light
This is silly. The standard airboxes on these cars are perfectly sufficient. All this will achieve is more noise and a higher intake temperature, and less power. Just clean out the filter housing regularly and replace the filter every 2 years and you will get optimum economy and performance. BMW engineers work hard to get the best MPG from their cars. You're not going to improve it with a cheap and crappy mod like this.
BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics Your name is very controversial . ANY BMW fanatic would know the name "Beamer" refers to the motorcycles .. NOT the cars.. The correct term for a BMW car is "Bimmer". Im really very surprised you got 4k subs with that name haha. Ps. Not being a dick.. Just stating the facts.

Nice and clear, thanks bro
With the absence of a heat shield, you're just sucking down hot air. Defeats the purpose.

I love you vidoes man i need a intake for a 1997 528i bmw
@1:39 you say better to suck in cold air than hot air. Well you just did the opposite! Nice
You dont really save more gas with an open air intake, it gets more air and needs more gas to adjust The Right amount of ingredients for igniting. Its sure healthier for The engine with colder air but its not saving gas at all.
Where's your heat shield? With this setup you were better off with the factory air filter box.
If you decide to change, dont forget your filter is waaaaay lower and unprotected, just remember that ALWAYS; speedbumps, dirt, rain snow, remember!!! Fwiw i love this mod, just clean your filter RELIGIOUSLY
If you installed the extra pipe that runs down the offender To make it a cold air intake The MPG's will go up
look under the intake there a small intake box.make sure its connected.
heyy i just installed the same exact intake on my car today and i noticed that my idle seems to fluxuate wile im sitting....do i need to reset my ecu like i seen in your reset ecu video?
what brand intake system is that?
Do I need the aux fan for one of these ?

Try e46 323i intake boot or 328i intake boot, this is same without the hole... cost a couple of dollars new ;)
So since it has the lower air pipe sucking cold air the stock system is fine right?
Yes
Where did you get the air intake ?? Please let me know ASAP
Check amazon
Where can i get it for 523i?
how is the fuel consumption of 2003 bmw 540i. Do i have to spend so much on fuel, is it a gas guzzler
Chukwugoziem Igwemba it really depends how you drive.

Will it be good on. 520i?
Nah, just invest in some employees to push it
I don't like it The intake is Receiving to much hot air and my gas mileage is not good. I will need to install the extra piece for the cold air intake
look for air leaks
Connect this to this? How about actually naming what this and that is..
