  • This video is a Beginner's treasure. It is the EXACT Wing Chun Fundamentals a beginner NEEDS to form their body stance and structure!
Welcome to what may very well be the most important lesson of Wing Chun for a beginner!
As a Wing Chun beginner, it's essential to build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of this martial art. In this video, we'll cover the crucial elements of stance and structure, including:
-Bending (Lok Ma) and rooting your spine
-Pulling your legs in (Kim Sut) and engaging your glutes
-Straightening your lower back straight (Ting Yiu)
-Relaxing your shoulders and elbows (Mai Jeong)
-Keeping your head up (Dung Tao)
-Looking forward with your eyes (Mok Lik)
These six elements of good form are the building blocks of Wing Chun, and mastering them will help you develop a strong, efficient, and effective fighting stance. Remember, Wing Chun is a meditation art, and our goal is to cultivate calmness and focus, even in the heat of battle.

Mr. Willis, I just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos. I’ve had to learn wing chun from RUclips videos because I’m unemployed at the moment, and I’ve only found two people who are worth learning from. There’s you and another Sifu from the channel “Enter Tai Chi”. He’s really good too, but YOU actually teach the basics and fundamentals… the important stuff for beginners. So I’d have to say you’re easily my favorite.
I really just want to say how much I appreciate you and really enjoy your videos. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher and for teaching all the important things that a beginner needs to learn.
Also, do you have any advice on the steps I should take to learn wing chun by myself as a beginner? I built my own wooden dummy so I’ve been practicing with that, but other than that I really don’t know what else I should really be learning. I’m dedicated and I want to get good. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. And please keep making videos! Thanks again

Thank you for the kind words. In order to get good at Wing Chun you need to practice the basics every day and don’t stop. The next thing is you will need to find a teacher to teach you hands-on. Only half of wing chun can be learned without hands-on instruction.

When you straighten your lower back, as well as sinking straight down, are your abs and core somewhat engaged to slightly round your back. Or are they engaged bit without trying to round anything?
If so is the straightening done by rotating your pelvis instead

The power of our Wing Chun is found in a different kind of leverage that stabilizes our body and its connection to the ground. A little similar to a jack in a car. Siu Nim Tao helps us learn to stabilize this connection.
