We can appeal to our indian government to stop this bullshit management of hotel industry. And put some good strategy like working hours, salary, offs, behaviour with staff, etc. Then this industry get good skilled and enthusiastic peoples.

govt will always overlook this industry like every govt has in the past. Their is literally no hope. Unless you're a robot you literally cannot survive here. The only way to actually build a career here is to work outside India where they actually value you as a human. Indian hotel industry is nothing but a black hole specially after covid. Their is no hope at all that govt will do anything.

In my opinion as a hospitality graduate and Chef, I would advise the upcoming youth to stop dreaming by watching shows and don't join hotel management unless you see yourself slogging 16hrs of your day. And if you think "I will join as a management trainee, ill become a manager/ Jr. Sous chef in 2 years", remove this misconception. only the fittest, perceiving, and street smart survive.

Observe more things and slowly improve your skills . Whole today the hotels want A fresher to be Proper prepared GSA you get 3-4 days in which they expect you to serve all the guests silver service ala carte restaurants make cocktails serve cocktails ... Everything.

I quit my hospitality undergrad after attending it for merely 6 months. this was prior Covid-19 and the consequential economical hit the industry faced due to world going for quarantine.
had I continued my course, I would've been jobless in the entire year of 2020 and would have worked for countless hours in the subsequent years of 2021-22.
glad I took the right decision and abandoned the course.
today, I am working as a digital marketer and a freelance writer. I work according to my own schedule and make more than what an average hotelier with 3 years experience could make. I work from home, yet I can travel in nearby countries as long as I can afford the essential expenses with my freelancing gigs, which I usually do cover.
I'll advice those intending to persue the hospitality world to think practically about your situation. if you in it, prepare to hustle hard yet expect that your initial journey will suck. if you have decided to abandon your course, make sure you re-enter a different field (possibly STEM) as soon as you can. This will help you establish your career and provide you a justified escape from your hospitality past --- if it is truly frustrating you right now.

3 yrs of ihm required 6 lakh minimum including all expense and in return they are bringing hotel with packages of 1.5lakh or 2 lakh.and students not choosing hotel they are going in retail sector . So government whats the point of running this institute.it should be retail management not hotel management.
Because your institute is not able to create that product which is required for the hotel industry for which you take this lum sum amount.
Just make it institute of retail management not hotel management.

True, the current scenario is really horrible. Last year i joined itc as a fresher and you wouldn't believe Me when I say I had to work for a total of 33 HOURS once and that too, in Front Office, honestly working and not goofing around. It really puts you down when you're working hard and your manager still chooses to favour others letting them off with only 8 hours and dumping their work onto you. Well, I left that place. Not only shift durations but work culture matters too.

Not from today, this industry is always having an abusive culture. And they know how to take a proper advantage of people's compulsion. There are students who dream to become successful hotelier and have that positive attitude at their work. This industry too gave them reason how to hate it and let them know you never going to be a part of it. No matter whatever education you have. You're from IHM's or IIHM's. At the end of the day we all known as skillfull labor. The working culture hotel industry is having make their staff frustrated, depressed, and let know them know they're good for nothing. We forget how to behave in a society and how to give respect to our parents and everyone's culture. People who choose this industry have nothing but regret why they choose this industry and wasted their future in every possible manner. I'm not going to tell here who I m and from what I've been through. But this what I'm going to share here. I just wanted to tell everyone who are new to this industry or part of it is that stop wasting your life or put yourself and your future on stake. There are hundreds n thousands of other industry here in a market where you all can be successful at their work and be the best kind of you. And be the human within you.

I dont really mind 10-12 hrs of shift , but if it is not necessary then why should we do that. This is a norm in the industry, if someone leaves early everyone has a problem .
Second thing this is a major problem the low salary 15k 17k 18k this is not a salary am an experienced chef and am getting paid 16.5k . Whats the bloody point of my degree , working like an ass and getting this kind of salary. If not anything, 25-30k should be the starting salary for a fresher, atleast he can tell himself am getting paid a fair amount.
And then the work life balance , its should be the responsibility of the employer to see theres a balance , i wanna work but i dont want to sacrifice my personal life. If i wanna go somewhere attend a gig or anything or f-it jud dont want to work someday i should get an off no question asked.
Nobody in the industry is interested in making reforms. They all talk big , but no action is taken . And if someone raises their voice they are expelled.
