When you work beyond working hours, and if you report this to HR they will said in every company this is same situation you can't expect to just work for 9 hours.
And this is we belive and work stupidly beyond 9 hours in fear of apprisal job safety.
I have seen many friends did job switching beacuse of this reason.

I(a first year b tech student) decided to pursue b tech because I had always wanted to become a software engineer. My parents were forcing me to just go with a BSc degree and told me prepare for any government job. I was passionate about engineering so disagreed with them to follow my passion. Now I think they were right. I'm hoping to leave this country soon

In Running rooms we get only 8hrs

Even the trainee resident drs in government hospitals are made to work 100 hrs a week by their seniors who barely do any work but these senior drs and professors still get a good salary by the government.

HBKFC bank oh my god 6 months in that bank and my first job, work pressure was insane and last I thought to leave and choose freedom, instead fake dreams that I will become rich in that bank. Remember all these people who are at top, they will treat you as robot and in last they will enjoy money from your sweat and blood and you, you have a termination letter, rejection letter or hospital bills at the end.
You do the same to the workforce you employ. Have you paid a pension to your driver, paid for training/upskilling your bai or called back the construction crew of your home for its anniversary?

The situation is even worse for CA/CMA students doing their articleship. We have to manage studies and training simultaneously. According to the institute, working hours are limited to 35 hours a week, but in reality, we work 14-16 hours a day. Furthermore, we receive a stipend of less than ₹4-5,000.
I've experienced this myself, working from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the office and then continuing from home until 1 a.m. Leaving the job is difficult, they often refuse to provide the required certificate and sign the necessary forms.
Some of my friends have even faced verbal abuse.

Same is happening in banking sector. Every week there are news of 3 to 4 people dying by suicide or by heart attack etc. And it is never highlighted in media or anywhere. Unrealistic targets, no fix time for office, late sitting, mentally everyone is dying here.

Not only poverty but unemployment also.. post covid there are hardly any jobs in the market, so all the companies, corporates and lala organisations take benefit of this and thus there are simply no rules.. if you want a job, you have to work 12 - 14 hours at a very low salary and without any leaves / offs !!

Make a video about resident doctors also who has been working in india for around 100 hours weekly and nobody reported their issue? They have to work 36 hours nonstop without sleep and then getting humiliated and thrashed by patients. Some resident doctors are abused to such an exent that they developed varicose vein by continuously standing for hours and they have to pay money for their seniors also. The government should make rules so that employees do not get exploited.
Government just doesn't make rules unless there is demand for it. People should ask for such laws.
Only solution to this problem is that the government introduces some policies around work hours. But I don't think the Modi government, or any Indian government will ever do that.

I am also in govt Bank just like canara bank , same attitude on zoom call regularly, I can get promotion and get a good growth of salary but I don't want because , I am very happy with my small position, because I can enjoy life after office hours 😊
The people who own the company will always work hard and expect the same from others. Employees can't feel the same . If I work for you and your company pay me accordingly if it is 20 hours a day, pay me for 20 hours. Companies don't do that. Payment will be monthly for 9 to 6. If you are working more than that that is considered hard work.
India is a very tough place to survive where for 1000 jobs, 10 lakh people are studying like anything.
I survive each day humiliation of a toxic boss who sometimes shout. Working in India is quite challenging
But here in ca there is very few people studying and our whole population is 1.4billion and here CA only around 4lakh even now you said there is huge students applying for the same work not at all this is the work culture who big companies don't want to change for there own benefits.
In this case i believe, manager goofed up. How can u reschedule a meeting because of cricket match. Also i believe there is different side also. Companies are overcommitting clients with strict timelines and then they try to squeeze resources. Then there is lot of learning curve on resource end as well, then r not ready to learn n quality issues. We feel its manager its always skip level management.
And the labour department keeps sleeping.

Thing is you get compensated well for your effort, and the culture is supportive rather than toxic.
