    I came for the jank but ended up being blown away by the final run of the day. I don't mind the rocky, techy punishment, but holy crap, when I dropped into 3 Saws at the end of the ride I was absolutely astounded.
    Machine built flow can be pure heaven! It just takes a real artist (and the proper land manager permission) to make something that turns a normal trail system into a real destination. The only flaw was that they had no berms, but I'm guessing that's more of a land manager thing.

    Thankfully we didn't break 3 saws. We just got 3 stuck in one particular tree. 4th saw got them out. Boundary Line, the next one over from Three Saws, has the berms you mention, and more. It'll blow your mind, as will the new Cotavid.

      Now I'm definitely curious to see where he rides in PA. After watching this video, I hope he went to Rattling Creek. Although after seeing the map and since it looks like he rode Brandywine in DE, part of me thinks he might have done the Wissahickon in Philly. Which in some ways would be a good taste. It's a rather iconic trail system, although many (including myself) would say it's not as good as it was in the early 90's.

    • @pulser955

      Yea I can’t wait to see what he rides in PA. I haven’t ridden the Wiss in a really really long time. I would love to see him ride out here in Rothrock and see what real central PA chunk looks like.

    • @ianfurqueron5850
      @ianfurqueron5850 4 года назад +1

      In the early days, the Wissahickon was nationally known as one of the best places in the country to ride. Technical single track within city limits. It'd be worth including in this trip if only to provide variety. But yeah, Rothrock or Rattling Creek are more in line with technical PA riding.

    Machine built trails don't all have to be bermed out jump lines! Deep Creek Lake State Park in MD and Jakes Rocks in PA both have incredible machine built trails with a lot of rocks and big features built into them.

    • @fredericktrails6727
      @fredericktrails6727 4 года назад +3

      You work with what you have and this particular hillside was unique in that there were hardly any rocks. We fully expected to uncover more when the machine work started, but they just weren't there. Sure, we got some rocks on the flow trail, but nothing like the rest of our trail systems. We've got miles and miles of rocks, come on down and you won't be disappointed. Jakes is amazing, but really not that many rocks over all - and that's not a criticism, I love the mix of flow and rock they have.

    • @RyanRidesPGH
      @RyanRidesPGH 4 года назад +3

    When we first started riding the Shed and Gambrill, the land managers didn’t know what to think (late 80s). Then they wanted to ban MTBs. We started MORE and started to do trail maintenance and going to endless meetings with the managers. Gambrill park was closed to all users during a state park under funding because there weren’t many users. The managers realized mountainbikers were users, and their numbers (and funding) increased. With lots of effort by MORE it went from almost being banned to “here’s the key to the maintenance shed, if you need saws go ahead and use what we have”. Advocacy is so important. I saw my first Rock Shox on that very trail in I think 1990.

    Ha the Shed- great riding. Todd is my buddy from Deep Creek. We both have places up there. Make sure you get there before you leave the area.

    There's a jump trail (Boundary Line) that runs next to Three Saws and has huge berms. Nice to have some flat turns in the mix too, imho. We typically use Three Saws as the climb trail but it's fun the other direction too. Come back some time, there's a LOT more to ride at the Shed.
