8:27 I appreciate the professionalism during Approach Checklist by changing to the new Baro Minimum of 1690ft instead of 1670ft previously set in the MCDU despite, like you have mentioned, the clear weather. Hello from SIN/WSSS!
Thanks for watching, your great feedback and for sharing your observations! This shows also that this item in the approach checklist makes sense. It gives us another chance to crosscheck and to check verify that we entered the correct minimum for the approach. Here it did not really matter because of the good weather. But in real bad weather, it may be very imoortant because we never want to descent below the published minimum without the appropriate visual contact to lights or the runway …. Many greetings to Singapore!
Wonderful video again! The snowy landscape is really something and looks breathtaking. Really enjoyable! Thanks for sharing & have a nice remaining weekend!
Thank you very much for being a supporting member of the channel and for your great feedback! I agree: The snowy landscape looks very nice and very special! Have a nice week!
Danke!
Thanks for your good feedback! VLS is the lowest selectable speed and depends on the weight of the airplane. Depending on the hard and software setup, the Airbus may calculate independently 2 different VLS speeds. One calculation by the FAC computers on the basis of aerodynamic data (angle of attack) and our entered CG (center of gravity). The other calculation is done by the flight management computer on the basis of our entered zero fuel weight from the loadsheet plus the remaining fuel. The FAC result is shown on the PFD and the flight management result is shown on the MCDU. We compare both values and if the value on the PFD is higher, we add the difference to the approach speed in the MCDU.
Was just wondering why the captain didnt configure flaps early around final, the plane was around the clean speed shortly before intercepting the localizer
We intercepted the localizer with about 210 knots. This was the clean speed. With glideslope intercept, we had configuration 2 and about 180 knots. This was at about 2500 feet above the airport elevation. If we would have intercepted the glideslope at 3000 feet, flaps 1 would have been good enough for the initial descent on the glideslope. Sure, you can configure the airplane earlier. This has no benefit, but will increase the fuel needed for the flight and it makes more noise.
As far as I know, the now closed Germanwings still has unused parts of it's carbon certificates issued by EU for companies. To use these up Eurowings uses Germanwings callsigns sometimes. Correct me if I'm wrong.
It is "ECAM MEMO: LANDING NO BLUE" and "CABIN: READY". The last one means that the cabin crew has prepared the cabin for landing and pressed the required button in the cabin to confirm this. The first one means that on our electronic checklist - which is displayed on the so called ECAM screen - are no items open. Blue items are open items and green items are completed items. A while ago, we had to say: "ECAM MEMO: LANDING ALL GREEN" which means exactly the same. ECAM stands for Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor.
Basically the A320 (and most Airbus planes) is assisted by the ECAM (Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitor) system. The system is able to automatically sense and detect the correct conditions which the plane needs during landing. "ECAM Memo: Landing No Blue" means there is no incomplete tasks, where completed tasks are shown in green. The ECAM landing memo includes landing gear DOWN, seat belts ON, cabin READY, spoilers ARMED and flaps SET. For example, if the spoilers are not armed yet, the spoilers task will be shown in blue indicating that it is a task not completed yet. (ECAM Memo: Landing 1 Blue)
Good day Gentlemen and thank you for the video with such a beautiful contrast between your last, of the landing on a sunny warm and dry Mediterranean Island, and a German winter scene. Really enjoyable.
Great video, as always! I've got a question concerning the Callsign. Why was your callsign "Germanwings" 9068? I thought nowadays germanwings is only used for all the airplanes that still have the old livery. Or is every flight within Germany operated by Eurowings called Germanwings, similar to the Speedbird/Shuttle in UK? Kind regards
Thanks for your support of the channel as a member and for your great feedback! You are right, Germanwings is used for flights within Germany. The livery does not matter.
