Egotistical, self-delusional, megalomaniac, pompous looser, or basically a jerk. Can anybody play this role better than Steve Martin? The first time I saw "Jerk" as a kid, I was rolling on the ground , almost choking from laughter. And I didn't even understand English as a child!!! 🤣😆🤗(It's not my first language). He is flat out brilliant and a comedic genius.
When he did this on SNL, there were a couple of differences that I thought were an improvement. I think he had Ned instead of Todd, and it was "waving his penis out the window." For me, the name was funnier and window was a nuce addition. The robot/luggage joke was much funnier on SNL. I think it went "And I believe- and I know this sounds crazy -that at this very moment robots are stealing my luggage". That to me was nuch funnier with the sentiment being interrupted with the recognition of its inherent insanity, as though it were an aside, rather than having the sentiment predicated on that. It was also funnier since he was hosting SNL and, presumably staying in a hotel where he would have kuggage. Whenever I am travelling and find myself in a political discussion, this is the way I tell it. To pretty good laughs and/or quizzical expressions.

How could anyone not like this?!?
It's pure comedy genius!
No closed captions! What’s a deaf person to do?😢
The squishy shoe sounds are perfect!
I hadn't seen this in years. It's still hilarious.
"That money can buy" was the best part
You could easily plug that into "Brazil" from Terry Gilliam. Wonderfull speech, i feel much more patriotic & conservative now. Thank you, Steve
brilliant. sterling. a gem.
I think I saw this years ago. Thanks for digging this up.
You believe that you saw this years...
I love this SO much! Thanks for posting it :)
It's been a long time! From a long time fan!
Steve Martin for President!
He'd certainly be better that the 2 idiots we have running now.
He did this bit once on Johnny Carson. Audience loved it.
What a cool audience that was!
Written by the brilliant Jack Handy.
jack handy? is that like a real name, or a nom d' porn?
@@jobob47 - was a Saturday Night Love writer. Deep Thoughts
@@maddymud This is years before Deep Thoughts ... Steve wrote this ,,,, Oh I get it Jack Handy this is 1981 ,,,, In 1981 you had Gumby ,,,

The theme music is literally the world's best theme music.
Robots stealing our luggage is not a joke...they really are...
Aaargh ... this is so FUCKING brilliant.

Who would’ve thought that :39 would be so relevant in 2020?

Also on SNL he says "I believe that the battle of the network stars should be fought with guns" which is one of the funniest lines I've ever heard!
I believe that it’s ridiculous that some dopes opened a chain of bars called HOOTERS.
That would indeed be ridiculous. Good thing Hooters are restaurants and not bars, in the sense of fewer incidents of drunks harassing the waitresses.
2 years after this aired. The name was inspired by this monologue!
And now Hollywood is giving us AVENGER ... Those were the days
Hooters was named after this skit.
hes a great american!!! lol
do you have the whole HBO special That's what I'm looking for.
20 year-olds don't know what it is to laugh without checking in with the department of acceptable topics.
"Winnebagos" -- Coke Zero keyboard spewing moment
Golden Bozos.
fun bags
HA!!!
Milkwagons
Interesting observation: both this and The Strangest Christmas Yet (Steve’s most recent music video) feature an uncle who exposes himself.
The hooters comment would be out today.
Get Choked >_
I believe.....in a supreme being.....I worship DOG. My DOG. Not your dog. That'd be crazy. Like believing in an invisible friend as an adult.😂😆😂
Obviously, Steve hadn't heard much about Al Gore at the time.
Yeah, that was back when the experts told us that the earth was going to get colder, not warmer. Gore had not yet invented global warming.

The “ME” (worst) generation.
Can't believe they named a whole restaurant after this.
