That was the best transition from skit to musical guest ever
Agreed. I❤Paul
Agreed. ♡︎
Right?!! It was funny in a way that guy flipped out! A+ for that. Love the Xmas decor, the lights. Perfection. And to hear this song, totally agreeing with you! I can’t understand why it only has 800,000+ views from 2013 to 2020...It’s Paul McCartney!
Agree, it was great! Bill Hader did a great transition from a monologue to the Californians when he hosted
"Can I sing now?"
And the crowd goes wild.
It's not every Saturday night a scene breaks away into a live performance, but there it is.
To not only appear on SNL, but to perform with Paul McCartney...those kids must have had the best Christmas ever!
I bet their parents more so.
We did
Please, tell us about it?
Oh yeah they did.
Sweet
It's 9 years later and Martin Short is enjoying a resurgence in his career. So great to see them both excelling in their senior years.
Senior years?
And Paul McCartney in his 80’s still blows the roof off!
@@aftacomics5865 Martin Short's 72 years old. Surely that's senior years?
@@MandatoryHandle
I saw someone say that 90 isn't old the other day.
90 is the new 70... 70 is the new 50... 50 the new 30....
Mick Jagger is still touring...
Chill folks, but BEHAVE whilst doing it... 😂
Paul is so cute with that triangle
@ Annabelle B. ✨AND WITH ANYTHING ELSE!!!♥️♥️♥️
@@bonitahobbs2097, ha, that's for sure. 😁
Agreed
He just exudes cool, even when he's supposed to be a dork.
can you imagine yelling at Paul McCartney not to sing
I bet John and George could...
John anyway
@@eagrun11 No, I'm fairly certain that George at least *thought* about it.
Al Franken yelled at George Harrison to stop singing when George was a guest on snl.
@@eagrun11 Sure, maybe John voiced his displeasure with McCartney, after take #257 of Maxwell's Silver Hammer.
"I'M the one with the million dollar voice!" I love that line. Short totally sells it.
Oh, I'm so glad they let Monte sing... wow what talent! He reminds me of that cute guy who used to be in the Beatles.
well, duhhhhhhhhh
***** Congratulations ,you just killed a joke . A little puppy died somewhere because of you.
+Xavier Huc is that like when a fairy dies everytime someone says they don't believe in fairies? A puppy dies when someone doesn't get a joke? Because then the internet is a mass murderer of puppies.
LittleCherryish oh god. poor you
😂👍
I love Paul's facial expressions while Martin is having his rant! So cute! And Martin is a real hoot!
I kept thinking it would've been a real hoot if he'd done it as his Ed Grimley character! I congratulate both Paul & Martin on not breaking!
Hilarious. Very Stan Laurel.
Reminds me of Paul being straight man to Chris Farley.😂❤
I honestly do not know how Paul McCartney stayed serious throughout this skit!!! Priceless!!!
He ;had many years of experience with John Lennon trying to crack him up on camera.
“I found you in a tree!” Sir Paul, “I was chasing a bird” LOL!
Can I also just say that Martin Short is a natural showman!
Love Martin Short.
He was a dreadful delay.
💯😆
I love the audience’s reaction when they realize he really IS going to sing!!
I was disappointed when Mick Jagger didn't sing in an SNL sketch where he played a nerd at a karaoke bar.
@@tomsinsky5548 he can't sing

Paul is so funny and cute without even needing to try. And he’s a musical genius, coming up with Yesterday and Let It Be in his dreams. He’s just naturally amazing in every way and I can’t get enough of him 😭
Literally me- Paul is just perfect, isn’t he! Hi!!
@@Lucille_McCartney73 no Paul isn’t perfect.

@@maddiemae73 He’s imperfectly perfect!!! ☺️
Martin is so underrated as an actor
Maybe because of the movies he did...
😆
He was also soooo great when he started on SCTV. Not sure if any are on RUclips.
No he’s not. I’ve never heard anyone who’s seen his performances say he’s bad. Just another RUclips commenter misusing “underrated”. I’m surprised you didn’t misuse “literally” while you were at it.
He's appropriately rated.
@@jenn976 I thought he damaged SCTV. Catherine O'Hara, John Candy & Rick Moranis were the reasons I never missed the first years of SCTV, and why they beat out SNL for the comedy Emmy. Martin Short did get funnier as he aged though -- I LOVE Jiminy Glick! And he's brilliant whenever he's on any show with the great Steve Martin.
When those children get a little older they will really freak out about singing with Paul on Saturday Night Live.
They're out of school by now and adults. That's crazy how long ago this was!!
Most of them don't realize who he IS I think. But what a total privilege to sing with him. How grand.
They did a great job
I'm sure they show this to everybody and I'm sure by now it has hit them how close they were to rock royalty.
I’m sure at least their parents drilled it into them what a huge deal this was lol
When the stage changed and he started playing, I just had tears down my eyes. Love Paul!
Whatever for?
Paul? Do you mean monte?
I know, I was crying too, the way they robbed Caleb of doing his number just because selfish Monty wanted to sing.
Whippin off that vest and grabbing that bass...omg!
The cold open is tough to watch and not cry. This episode aired just after the Sandy Hook massacre. The angelic voices of the children singing “sleep in heavenly peace” gets me every time.
Sometimes I hate this world 😢
@@suzyq4982 Me too...ah, but there are the glories...
Sometimes, especially when the world looks like the light has gone out, you get moments to remind you there’s so many fires and stars burning to give light through that darkness.
A horror occurred, which for too many occurs way too much in our country, but we need to remind ourselves to laugh, smile, and take joy in what was and what may be.
Voices lost, never to be heard again, will echo to future generations until there’ll (hopefully) come a time when we needn’t fear more massacres in our country.
I saw Paul last year and the week of his 78th birthday, he put on the greatest show I’ve ever seen. The greatest ever. He’s my all time favorite
Lucky!
I saw The Beatles in Minneapolis, they were in their early 20's..Yikes..!! hard to believe so long ago..it was heir 2nd U.S tour..
Yas!!!! He puts on a hella show!!! I cried. I kept saying THATS A BEATLE!!!
I was always a John Lennon fan but the Beatles are my favorite all time band. But in this skit I just see how great Paul's energy is. Anybody's very lucky to say they have seen the Beatles or their favorite musicians putting on a great show! good for you!
I saw him about 10 years ago and his concert was shockingly good! I thought since he was older that it wouldn’t be super impressive. But he blew me away.
His voice was a lot better then though.
After playing Monty, Sir Paul now knows how George Harrison felt while he was in the 'Beatles'.😃😃🤣🤣
Kkkkkkk
George was the best Beatle
You wouldn't let it lie !🤣
@@TiberioTrip truth is told
Wasn't Sir Paul adorable in that skit?
(Btw, the title is used with the first name or the full name, but never the last name only (so "Sir Paul" or "Sir Paul McCartney" are both correct xx).
Martin Short and Paul McCartney seems like they could form a new humor duo.
Ala Oliver and Hardy :)
The Only Thing Funny About Martin Short Are His Looks .............
MARTY SHORT WAS BACK HOME!!!! WHAT YEAR DID HE WORK ON SNL? AROUND THE 80'S?!!
@@bonitahobbs2097 he was in the 1984-85 season.

Can we just talk about how good those jeans look on Paul!
Yes, we can.
Paul can even rock that green vest !!! 😉
But he should have kept the Christmas vest on!
Yeah I totally fancy him 😍
The man looks good in anything tbh
The Martin Short dance has been making me laugh for 40 years.
"I'm a train..."

Props to that children's choir, they really added that special touch!

I remember watching this at 10 when it aired. I feeling so alone that Christmas, but I knew Paul McCartney was going to guest star. It was then I felt so apart of something so special. This song means a lot to me. I still feel lonely most of the time, but it doesn't mean that feeling is true. I am thankfully still alive to spend it with the people that matter most. Merry Christmas to some and Happy Holidays to you all.

The best segue to a musical number. The only thing is, did he get the audition?

I wonder if Paul and Ringo exchange conversations like this. "Can I sing now, Paul?" "No, Ringo, you can't sing! You're a bloody idiot! I found you stuck in a tree before we came here!" "I was chasing a bird, mate..."
actually it was ringo who didnt want to sing
And your bird can sing
@@ojtheaviator1795 Nice.
"No, Ringo, you can't sing." Some people have no shame. Paul co-wrote Yellow Submarine and With a Little Help from My Friends, two of Ringo's most popular songs. He was also in the process of writing Boy Your Going to Carry That Weight for Ringo, but Ringo came up with Octopuses Garden, so Paul put it on the Abbey Road medley. All three of the other Beatles did what they could to promote Ringo's singing career.
Paul's face when Martin Short sings, "I'm on a train!" LOL
Doesn’t matter the age, talent always shines bright.
See? Monte can sing after all! Such a funny skit with Paul McCartney and Martin Short.
Probably the best transition to a musical guest’s performance in SNL history
I love Paul!!! He has always been respectful, professional, we'll grounded with a great sense of humor!!! Live on Paul!!! Happy Holidays to you and yours!!! God please bless Paul!!!
Wuuuuw Macca rules!
What a great, uplifting sentiment!
Paul was a serviceable straight man for the other Beatles and Chris Farley, and he might be the funniest member of some bands, but he's the 4th funniest Beatle. 1. John (no contest) 2. Ringo (See A Hard Day's Night to confirm 1 & 2.) 3. George. See the Beatles early press conferences, his appearance singing the Pirates Song on Eric Idle's show, the Cracker Palace video, and give George comedy points for being Monty Python's Life of Brian patron. Paul is #4. I guess when you're the most talented, hardest working, and best looking Beatle you don't really have to be the funniest. He's still my favorite artist/entertainer of the 20th century.
I agree, and a gentleman and human.
U go Julian. I no u r father is smiling right now.
Martin Short.....unstoppable, incomparable, brilliant, masterful, adorable, all of the good words, basically.
And Monty was pretty good too.

I'm a HUGE Paul fan. I saw him do this song with children. The concert was in Liverpool at the Echo arena. And forget it. Martin Short has been a top fave comedian of mine for over 35 years. He's the conedian's comedian!

I've heard the song a million times, and never realized how good it is. That melody line before the kids come in with 'ding dong' at 5:04 is typical McCartney.

Gotta give it to Paul for keeping a straight face.
My family sings this endlessly every Christmas season! The funnier rehearsal version has Martin telling Paul “just stop saying things!” We quote that too.
